CHAPTER 16

The next morning Leah woke up to the sound of someone banging on her door. She groaned as she got off the bed, she walked towards the door. She opened it and she saw none other than Serene standing on the door with a smile on her face, more like a smirk. Leah knew that something was wrong or Serene was up to no good. "Why are you banging on my door this early in the morning?"Leah asked, trying her best to not slap that smirk off Serene's face.

"Well, Leah I-"Serene was cut off before she could finish her sentence.

"I should have told you earlier but it's Mrs Copeland to you or ma'am or Mrs Alexander."Leah said, folding her arms and she leaned on the doorway.

"I don't have time for this shit."Serene said.

"Is that how you talk to your employer's wife? I mean I am also your employer now that I am his wife, so I can fire you if I want to."She said.

"Really? His actions last night showed that he did not like you one bit and we both know that he doesn't. So please, you don't scare me."Serene said. Leah closed her eyes and she took a deep breath.

"Look Serene I don't want to argue with you, this early in the morning. I have classes anyway so please whatever it is that you want, make it quick."Leah said, remembering that she had classes to attend from 9am and it was only 7am now.

"The young master would like to have a word with you, he's in his room. And trust me, he doesn't look happy."She said. Leah rolled her eyes.

"You could have said that in the first place instead of wasting my time. We all know that he is never happy, so I am not scared…what, did you expect me to be afraid? Don't worry I am not. And I don't think that I'll ever be afraid of him."Leah said and she walked out of the room tackling Serene's shoulder with hers. She then made her way to Alexander's room.

She stood outside the room and she knocked on the door. A few seconds later the door opened and there she saw Alexander's face. He never looked happy but his expression now was, making Leah worried. For the first time ever Alexander looked sad. His eyes were red, Leah asked herself if he had been crying or not because he looked like he had been crying. He was holding a glass of whisky on his other hand. "Uhm, you wanted to see me?"Leah asked. Alexander nodded his head and he opened the door for her to enter. She entered the room.

It looked messy, she actually thought that he was a clean freak, so seeing his room messy was a bit surprising for her. There were empty bottles of wine on the floor and a bottle of whisky on the nightstand that was opened and he had drunk half of it. Now Leah really could tell that something was wrong.

"Have a seat."He said. Leah nodded her head and she sat down next to him on the bed. He looked horrible.

"Why did you want to see me?"She asked. She did not want to think that the worst had happened, but she couldn't help but think of the worst things that could have happened.

"Well… can I hug you?"He asked. Leah looked confused, like why would Alexander want to hug her? She thought that he hated her for some reason that she did not understand, but if he needed a hug then he was going to get it.

"Yeah."She said. Then Alexander threw himself in her arms. She hugged him back. He hugged her tightly. It felt like a meaningful hug. Leah was surprised, this was the first time he had actually hugged her. His body felt so warm, and soft. "Alex, what's wrong?"She asked. She felt him release a breath from which she could tell that he was crying. She broke away from the hug, she wiped his tears with her thumbs.

This was actually the first time in her life she had seen Axle in a situation like this one, and it did not suit him at all. It made her wonder what it is that could have happened that made him this way. "My grandmother…she's gone."He said and then he buried his face in her chest. Leah was shocked, she didn't think that she would die just like that. The doctor had said that she was okay, so what could have happened?

"What do you mean? How?"She asked, running her hand up and down his back slowly.

"She was sent to the hospital in the middle of the night because she was not feeling well, but she died as soon as she got there. I thought that it was because of what had happened earlier but it was not. It was something else but they didn't know what it was. I don't know what to do, I have lost the only woman that cares about me." He said. Leah kinda felt bad for him even though he had been treating her like trash for all this time.

"Alex… what can I do?"She asked. Leah knew nothing about helping someone who was in the situation that Alexander was in.

"Just stay. Don't go anywhere, I need you."He said. He seemed to mean what he was saying. She knew that missing her classes today was a bad idea, but Alexander needed her right now and she had to be there for him.

"I…I'll stay with you, hold on a sec. I need to call my friend and tell him that I won't be able to make it for class today."She said.

"Can't you do that later?"He asked, hugging her even tighter.

"Alright, I'll do it later."She said, giving in. She didn't know what she was supposed to do now, or if she was supposed to do anything, but she just wanted him to be better. She just hoped that he was not going to go back to treating her like crap. But what made her confused was that he did not hate her after he heard about his grandmother's death, because she was sure that he would hate her, but since he said that she had died because of something that might be why he was not mad at her. But why would he need her to feel better? She didn't know that too, she just hoped that sge would get answers to this questions sooner rather than later.
