The Great Reward

In the world of this novel, let me introduce you to the awe-inspiring Xylorthrax, a creature of immense proportions that hails from a distant planet. As you imagine this colossal millipede-like being, envision a creature that defies the boundaries of our earthly scale.

The Xylorthrax stands taller than the tallest trees, reaching astonishing heights of over 30 feet. Its exoskeleton, an intricate tapestry of chitinous plates, gleams with an otherworldly iridescence, reflecting an array of vibrant hues under the alien sun. Each plate, as if sculpted by an artistic hand, bears intricate patterns resembling intricate celestial maps, hinting at the creature's mysterious origins.

Spanning the length of several school buses, the Xylorthrax's segmented body undulates gracefully with a mesmerizing rhythm. Hundreds upon hundreds of legs, jointed and articulated, propel this colossal creature forward with an uncanny grace. These legs, reminiscent of polished ebony pillars, seem to pulsate with an otherworldly energy, radiating an ethereal glow that casts eerie shadows on the ground beneath.

As the Xylorthrax moves, the ground trembles beneath its sheer weight, a testament to the creature's immense power. Its colossal head, adorned with a pair of enormous, multifaceted eyes, gazes out with an intensity that hints at an ancient wisdom. Antennae, long and delicate, sway gently in the air, detecting even the subtlest vibrations and atmospheric currents.

From its gaping maw, lined with rows of sharp, serrated mandibles, the Xylorthrax emits a low, resonant hum, a haunting melody that echoes through the alien landscape. It is a call that speaks of the creature's primeval majesty, reverberating through the air, captivating all who hear it.

The Xylorthrax leaves an indelible mark on its surroundings. In its wake, towering ferns and exotic foliage bend under its passage, creating a path that seems to weave through a forgotten realm. The very air seems to shimmer in its presence, charged with an otherworldly energy that leaves all who witness it in a state of reverent wonder.

a dinging message was heard only by Miller as green words flickered on his retina. The words were from the system:

[RACE: XYLORTHRAX]

[QUEST: PROVE TO THE SYSTEM YOU ARE WORTHY BY PREVENTING THE XYLORTHRAX FROM KILLING ANYONE]

This would have been a difficult task for anyone, including Miller. How could he possibly save them from a powerful being like the XYLORTHRAX?

Except for the Anti-Meta Human travellers soldiers, James, Zabat, and Getrax, everyone began sprinting backwards at full speed for safety.

Miller wanted to run, but the test was too appealing to him to pass up. He remembered the system telling him that if he didn't prove his worth within 24 hours, he'd be rejected.

Miller had never felt deserving of anything. Because his parents were the only people who thought he was worthy, he felt obligated to prove it to the system.

The system had earlier promised Miller of a reward. The system called it: THE GREAT REWARD.

The xylorthrax was now very close to them and finally it opened its enormous mouth trying to eat the people in front of him alive.

POW! POW! POW!

The Anti-Meta Human travelers sent out several shot to the Xylorthrax. The Xylorthrax skin was very strong, the shots were just a waste of time.

"I like what your sword is made of" Zabat said to Getrax as he touched the sword.

Immediately Getrax touched the sword, his entire skin changed, his skin was now currently made of the kind of unknown material that was used to make the sword.

"Wow" Miller said as it was his first time to witness Zabat performing his ability.

Zabat wanted to reply, but the Xylorthrax was now getting too close to them. Zabat ran towards the Xylorthrax followed by Getrax and James (who was covered with his blue energy entirely and was flying towards that direction) and the Anti-Meta Human travelers.

"Argh" Getrax deliberately shouted. He shouted to intensify the situation.

BANG!

Zabat had punched the alien right in the face. Shockingly Zabat had some how also copied the strength of the sword when he was copied the material. The Xylorthrax fell backwards to floor in pain. Even though his skin was very durable. He was not entirely invincible, it could be hurt.

BANG!

Getrax had hit the alien in its stomach causing it to bleed a purple looking blood.

BANG!

James had sent his blue energy into the alien causing it to bleed more and it had finally died.

The Anti-Meta Human travelers soldiers did not bother to attack again because they could see clearly that the creature was dead. But they were no fools, they still stood around it with their guns, some beasts would pretend like they were dead in other to attack again.

James, Getrax and Zabat went back to meet the others. More Amargans started surrounding them especially James.

"Are you the long awaited one?" Many of them asked James.

James knew that he was not the long awaited Saviour, he knew it was Miller. He knew he was not the chosen one, but he had been told by that strange man to keep it a secret even to Miller himself. He was told to keep it a secret by that strange unknown mysterious man who was dressed in brown sack clothing like the medieval human era. The man told him, that it was for the Universe benefit.

"I don't know" James tried his best to become rude in his reply. But his effort was a waste as the Amargans saw that he was not rude at all, he was only faking it.

"they should just leave us alone!" Edmund shouted inside their head.

"Come and take the seat" James said.

Both James and Edmund then intentionally wanted Edmund to be in the seat and then finally Edmund was in control of the body.

"Leave me alone!" Edmund shouted at the top of his voice as his eyes also turn red like he was about to burn them all alive.

This confused Miller. He had never noticed James to be this angry before

"Rarr"

A loud Roar was heard and immediately all of them turned their back to look at what made the roar, they saw the Xylorthrax.

The Xylorthrax faked it's death by holding his breath for so long.

The Xylorthrax thundered forth with blistering velocity, a malevolent horn erupting from its skull. Gleaming with malevolence, it hungered to strike its target, converging on the defenseless figure of Taj'Kei.

"Taj" Kisa and some others shouted.

Taj was a little apart from the rest of the throng, but Miller was nearby. Miller refused to follow the crowd. He was also far away, but he was positioned to Taj's right.

Finally the sound of blood dripping and someone shouting in pain was heard.

SPLAT!

"Argh" Someone shouted.

A piercing gasp escaped the lips of those who bore witness to the unthinkable. The atmosphere crackled with an electric intensity as a shocking turn of events unfolded before their very eyes. Eyes widened, mouths agape, as a sharp, gleaming horn materialized atop the fearsome Xylorthrax's head.

In a swift, merciless motion, the horn found its mark, plunging deep into flesh with a sickening precision. It struck not an Amargan, as expected, but a human boy—a haunting betrayal of all that was known. The realization hit like a thunderclap, freezing the air in its wake.

The name echoed through the minds of those present, reverberating with a mixture of disbelief and horror. Miller—the innocent, unsuspecting soul caught in the clutches of this monstrous entity. How had fate chosen him? What twisted game was being played, where the rules had suddenly shifted?

As time slowed to a crawl, a symphony of gasps, muted cries, and anguished whispers filled the air. Every heartbeat pounded in sync with the mounting tension, as the gravity of the situation sank its claws into their souls. Darkness encroached upon their fragile sanctuary, their sense of security torn asunder.

With each passing moment, the sinister implications of this unthinkable act seeped into their consciousness. What nefarious designs had conspired to bring about this unholy union of predator and prey? The boundaries of reality blurred, and fear etched itself deeply into their trembling hearts.

As their eyes remained fixed upon the harrowing scene, the stark contrast of innocence and malevolence collided, intertwining their fates in a dance of despair. Miller's lifeblood, now mingled with the essence of this otherworldly terror, served as a chilling reminder of the fragility of existence.

The air thickened with a palpable tension, anticipation hanging like a noose around their necks. The questions loomed, unanswered, as the darkness of the unknown enveloped them all. The sharp, strong horn that had defied expectations had shattered their perceptions, leaving them on the precipice of a revelation too harrowing to comprehend.

Miller had run into the place of Taj. He wanted to protect him. He wanted to protect Taj. He wanted to prove to THE SYSTEM that he was Worthy of THE GREAT REWARD. And that had brought his life to an end.

Does Miller's death... shatter the very notion of a Saviour? Does it plunge us into an abyss of doubt and disbelief? Does his demise cast a dark shadow upon the prophecy, revealing it as a cruel deception? Does it expose the bitter truth that the Saviour was destined to perish in such a cruel, senseless manner?
