At this point, she had already told Yaci about her recent marriage. She didn't react well to the news. She seemed to silently disagree with her decision, but she forced herself to be quiet. Is it because she went through a similar experience?
Her daughter's father had entered an arranged marriage with her and he was abusive. It took Yaci awhile before she was able to escape his clutches.
Maybe Yaci acted like that because she was grateful for her help and didn't want her to end up in the same situation.
"Don't worry. If he ever tries to harm me in any way, I will be the one to break his bones." Clair assured her and headed outside her office down the hall to the waiting room.
She took out her phone and called James. Surprisingly, he answered only after one ring.
"Why is there someone outside claiming to be your ex-girlfriend? And why does she know we are married?" She wanted to confirm if it is indeed true, but she expected that this person is just a fake.
"She's there? I will be there soon wait for me." He responded.
Yaci who walked behind her swore she saw a flash of thunder behind Clair.
"Can you-" Before James continued, she immediately hung up the phone.
Clair took a deep breath to calm down her anger. She was quite startled by his response. She never signed up to deal with this crap. She didn't like that he didn't tell her he had an ex and most importantly that they are still connected.
And after her conversation with Anna this morning, she was not in the mood.
She was extremely uncomfortable with the turn of events. She placed her phone in her pocket and came inside.
The first thing that caught her eyes in the room was a thin and petite woman sitting on a couch with a cup of coffee in her hands. She seemed to be mumbling things to herself. When she heard the door open her eyes turned sharp and determined.
Clair raised a brow but remained quiet.
Clair wondered…..
Is this why he can't offer any love? Was he still stuck in the past between him and this woman?
The thought that she might be some kind of replacement angered her.
She took another deep breath and told herself that overthinking is not good for her.
She closed the door behind her and asked Yaci to stay outside. She took a seat in front of her and opened her mouth.
Before she spoke the woman did.
"Hi, my name is Gabbie I'm sorry if I'm interrupting your work. I just wanted to meet you and didn't consider your schedule." She apologized.
Clair gave her a small smile that didn't reach her eyes. She didn't want to be hostile to her since the woman didn't show any malice and seemed to be genuinely apologetic.
"It's fine. Please state the purpose of your visit so we don't delay this any longer."
"Okay, first can you please not mentioned my visit to Lewis?" She asked and held her hand as if it were the most natural thing to her.
Clair instinctively took it back. "I'm sorry the sudden closeness startled me."
"Oh, I'm sorry….ha" She looked nervous under her presence and maybe...disappointed?
Clair sighed. The woman was too easy to read. No fun at all.
Anyway, did she say Lewis? Who the hell is Lewis?
"I think you got the wrong person Miss Gabbie. I'm not married and I don't know a Lewis." She stood up ready to leave but the woman stood up as well and held her hand.
"No, I'm really confident that it's you. I did a lot of research. It's you, Miss Yves."
"I'm sorry I think we have some kind of misunderstanding. I only introduced myself as his ex-girlfriend because if I said friend you would not come to me personally. I'm sure that if you came here yourself that means you are indeed married and the fact that your husband has an ex-girlfriend gave you some kind of interest." She explained herself in a quick rant.
"Hmmm, aren't you quite smart." Clair took her seat again with a smirk.
"Though, that is almost true...I don't know a Lewis."
"Oh, you probably call him James right? Yeah, he sort of left his middle name forgotten because we would tease him too much with it."
The way she spoke like she knew every detail about him made her chest stuffy. It was uncomfortable to know a woman who shared something with him was right in front of her. She had no reason to hate this woman but she couldn't help but feel threatened.
Maybe her possessiveness was coming to light? She can't lie, she hates when people try to take things from her.
She's extremely overprotective of people around her. Yaci, her brother everyone really. Anyone who shows her kindness she will do the same too.
She felt like hitting herself to get that feeling away. He's probably just using you! How could you ever think of him as one of your own?!
She let out a breath and listened to the woman's endless rant.
"I met him when we were in middle school. Honestly, I really don't like referring to myself as his ex-girlfriend. Let me tell you, I liked him when we were in middle school so I asked him out and he agreed. A week later I broke up with him because I realized his indifference didn't suit me. He's too cold and distant, like some kind of ice cube. Anyway, I just wanted to meet you because we are still friends. Plus, he's quite close to my husband."
Clair stayed silent. She hadn't noticed the wedding ring on the woman's hand earlier. It kind of relieved her.
"So I guess I just wanted to meet you. I mean who has the guts to not date but even marry such a man. Haha, it also sounded fun knowing I'm the first to know he got married. Haha...okay so I'm going to be honest...ummm. I wouldn't have figured it out if his mother had not called me to scare you away but haha I think you are the one who will scare me away…"
She nervously fidgeted with her clothing.
It was hard.
Gabbie cried on the inside. She had never met such an intimidating woman before. Sure, her auntie was also quite intimidating after all she's the queen herself but since she is treated like family she never saw that side of her.
Maybe, she had been raised too sheltered and that's why she gets so timid in front of intimidating people.
She was excited to meet Clair until she found out she's literally a legend in the business world.
'What a nerve-wracking experience.' She thought.
Though she's close with the royal family despite only being the daughter of a businessman, they treated her like family so it was no longer something abnormal for her. This situation was different. She heard of Clair many times and meeting her like this made her nervous, excited, and scared.
"His mother sent you?" Clair finally spoke.
No, Gabbie is not a bad person and I think after a while you would start to like her more. She's a pretty nice and innocent friend.
A kind of friend Clair has never had before. Being friends with Gabbie will give our fl a new experience.
Stay safe~
