Caring for Mr. Mutant

[COMPLETED] How can a Mutant and a Mutant Caretaker fight for their love, if science is their greatest enemy? ------------------------ Year 2023: Random DNA mutations suddenly occurred around the world. These mutations caused newborn babies to acquire animal traits, and no one knows why or where they originated. Year 2033: When funds, advanced technology, and a capable workforce became available to study these mutants, a national team of scientists was formed, called the "DNA Mutation Cadre" or "D.M. Cadre". They were given modern, state-of-the-art laboratories complete with equipment and isolation rooms. Here, mutants were studied and monitored in exchange for a large sum of money and government assistance. Year 2048: In the busy city of Makylee, a 25-year-old part-timer, Lia Brentvale, got fired from her two part-time jobs in just one unlucky day. Since her parents aren’t around, she’s the breadwinner of her family, providing for her two college brothers. She applied as a Mutant Caretaker in the D.M. Cadre Research Facility and after passing their exam, she was assigned to the mysterious and aloof vulture mutant. But as she got to know him, she also learned more about D.M. Cadre. Together with her hacker friend and their batchmates, they tried to uncover the deep secrets that lie within the research facility. ------------------------ PREVIEW: Aesop had always felt that being a mutant is a curse. But upon meeting Lia, he started accepting himself. Lia was always pointing out his strong points. She was always encouraging him to enhance his skills and discover his talents. She always tells him not to think of himself as a test subject just like how the scientists treat him. She reassured him that even though he's a mutant, he's not less than a person, so he shouldn't look down on himself. It was her uplifting words and her mere existence that gave color to his monochrome life. "Lia… I love you," Aesop uttered as his golden eyes stared through her deep blue eyes. "Ae, I… I love you, too," Lia then wrapped her arms around Aesop's neck, drawing in close to him. Aesop's hands slid down to Lia's lower back, and he embraced her. Their heartbeats quicken as their lips graze against each other. Lia thought it would be just a simple kiss, just like they had always done after their very first kiss, but she was wrong. Aesop's right hand suddenly caressed her back, then he placed it at the back of her head, pulling her to him with a little force. The vulture mutant's majestic wings enveloped them, and it was as if he was owning her. Aesop's wet tongue slid into her mouth, and it surprised her. She tried to resist, but with his hand at the back of her head, she couldn't get away from him. Eventually, she gave in to that passionate kiss... NOTE: Not a superhero story, but tackled more of science ethics and social issues ------------------------ UPDATE: Added CFMM Special - The Afterstory chapters after the Finale. "The World of White Walls-2"

The newcomers nodded as they followed Sanya. While they continued walking downstairs, she further explained that D.M. Cadre follows a hierarchy for its scientists: the Assistant Scientists, who are required to help the Core Scientists in their experiments, and the Core Scientists, who innovate, create, analyze, and lead the experimentation processes.

"This is the Doctors' and Veterinarians' floor," said Sanya. "As we all know, all the mutants were mostly human, but their mutation made them have one or more animal characteristics. So, we need doctors and veterinarians to frequently check up on them. Understood? Okay, let's proceed."

Again, they went downstairs. The 5th floor consists of many storage rooms of different supplies. It was a bit dimmer than the floors above them, and the floor was coated with blue-grey rubber paint. As they walked through the corridor, Sanya was continuously greeted by most of the staff, which belonged to the Administrative Division.

"Aside from the scientists, there are other workers too, like the Administrative Division who processes the salaries, screens the applicants, drafts contracts and orders office and laboratory supplies," Sanya explained.

They swiftly walked down to the next floor which is a library. To enter the library, you have to be a scientist or someone from the Publishing Division. There is a contraption located at the side of the blurry glass door to scan the I.S. Codes. The digital sign at the top of the big, double doors flashed: "SCIENTISTS' EXCLUSIVE LIBRARY", which summarized everything about the whole floor.

Having no need to explain, Sanya led the group to another floor below. There were low, minimalist-style office cubicles in two colors: yellow and white. It had a somewhat chaotic but productive environment, seeing that the employees were all occupied, staring into their monitors. Some were typing; some were printing.

"Another division aside from the group of Scientists and the Administrative Division and is here, the Publishing Division," Sanya explained. "They process the patents, utility models, and anything related to intellectual property rights. They also edit the journals and experiment reports before publishing on the outside world, for the public to read."

They went down to the next floor in which more offices of the Administrative Division were located. Seeing that there is nothing new in that area, Sanya led them to the lobby.

"The three divisions comprise the D.M. Cadre Research Facility, but aside from these, there are also outsider teams working in the area," Sanya said. Lia and the others logged out their I.S. codes at the receptionist's desk as instructed by Sanya, then they went to the e-train platform for the final briefing. There, she explained more about the outsider teams.

The Security team is a group of trained men tasked to protect the facility against dangerous factors like trespassers, thieves, and violent protest groups. They also ensure the safety of all employees inside the premises. Also, in case of a mutant escape, they have to bring the mutant back, alive. Part of the security team is also the cybersecurity team, having the task to protect the research facility from hackers. They also have control over all electronic doors and gates, as well as the e-train.

The Auxiliary team are the ones who are located in the South Wing of the facility. These are cafeteria workers, grocery store personnel and repairmen. There is also a small clinic in the basement managed by some in-house doctors and nurses.

Lastly, the Maintenance team, composed of sanitation workers and caretakers, are assigned to the East Wing. Sanitation workers are responsible for the cleanliness of the whole research facility, while caretakers are responsible for the well-being of all mutants. Male workers are assigned on the 2nd to 4th floor while female workers are assigned on the 5th to 7th floor.

"I think you should all prepare for your first day tomorrow." Sanya said, looking at the new caretakers' faces. It seemed like the tour pushed too much information into them. "You look tired and confused. Do you have any questions?"

"I have a question, Ms. Sanya," Gem replied. "Can we share our experiences with other people?"

"No, you can't," Sanya straightly answered. She fixed her glasses and continued, "The public knows our existence but they didn't know how things work on the inside. For research security purposes, and for the safety of the mutants and the whole D.M. Cadre, please do not share any information outside. It's also in the contract if you overlooked it."

"I have a question too!" Lovely exclaimed. "You mentioned that we have a sleeping area… Can we talk about our assigned mutants there? You know, like the usual girl talks?"

"You can. As long as it's just within your roommates. But please do not talk about their personal information."

"I have a question, Ms. Sanya." Lia shyly said. "What happens to mutants without caretakers?"

"Good question, Ms. Brentvale. Not all mutants need caretakers. Most of them are actually independent and are very cooperative in evaluations. Only those who are hard to approach or needed to be taken care of, frequently and in close proximity, like those that were assigned to you." Sanya replied. "Mr. Angeldame, do you have a question?"

Upon Sanya's question, Sanno sweetly smiled. "Ms. Sanya, do you have a boyfriend?"

Lia, Gem, and Lovely were surprised by this random question, thinking, when could be the day that Sanno would take questions seriously? Of the four of them, he is the most whimsical person.

"I-" Sanya was taken aback by the sudden off-topic question. It wasn't because she was pissed off or anything, it was because she never had a boyfriend, since birth.

The four were all intensely looking at Sanya, waiting for her answer. She replied, "Never had."

With this answer, Sanno was delighted, and then he just replied with, "Okay, I see." while smiling from ear-to-ear. The three other girls just giggled in that cute moment.

It was a bit awkward, so Sanya decided to lead them into the train. "See you tomorrow!" She waved goodbye as the train moved.

Now that you've read what it's like in the D.M. Cadre Research Facility, would you like to work there? Why or why not? You can answer in the comment section~
