Nothing Else Mattered

Kita didn't really know how long he had laid on the floor. He couldn't really care about the time when there was a loud buzz in his ears and head. He could barely open his eyes at all! Before he could get his head up however, The pain came back. That mind numbing pain that made one feel like his insides was about burst through. He couldn't scream nor he could move. All he could do was lay there. Suffering.

An Unknown amount of time had passed. Kita had already drifted in and out of consciousness multiple times. Each time, the pain increased. The last time he had consciousness, He already felt numb. He just wanted to let it all go and close his eyes forever. But the only thing that kept him from doing just that was Helen. Every time he had such thought Helen's death would come up in his mind. Although he was barely in the mind to think about anything. But he couldn't let her go. He couldn't let the promise go to waste. He pushed through all that pain just cause he wanted to full-fill what he had promised her.

When he finally woke up for the last time, Surprisingly, he mind felt Clear. He was able to suddenly quantify everything that was happening around him. He felt no brain haziness. Everything just felt… Clear.

He still felt really weak though. He could barely move his arms. He somehow managed to get himself up and then sat on the floor for a while. That's when he suddenly remembered.

He quickly turned to look at his right hand. There was nothing. He then looked around him and tried to find the Lines sample. He couldn't find it either. Both the cuboid and the sample was gone. Kita had a fear in him. His clear mind had led him to a horrible conclusion. He feared that the Cuboid and the Lines sample had somehow integrated themselves inside him.

He quickly looked towards his chest, hands and body. There were no visible signs of anything happening. He was still wearing the cloths he was wearing when he passed out.

Suddenly, there was an emergency call on his comm.

He looked at who it was only to find out it was the Medics. His comm might have alerted them of his distressed. Every comm came Built-in with such features. It could let approved parties let know of the health status of it's wearer. The Medics were already notified the first time he had passed out. But they couldn't come to his aid.

And the reason was that he had the lab under strict lock down. Nobody could enter unless he let them through from the inside. This was the reason he was still sitting on the floor. He didn't pick up the call. But he pressed a few buttons on his comm and opened up the Lab doors to let the medics through. There was no point in talking as he figured they were already standing outside the lab.

And he was right. The Medics poured in as soon as the lab was opened. The quickly got to the room where the scanner was and then swiftly entered.

One of the medics quickly came upto him and started taking his viatals with a hand held device.

"Dr. Kita, Are you okay? Can you talk?"

Kita didn't say anything. He didn't feel like he could talk. He didn't have any energy left to talk. He was extremely tired. He just shook his head. Pointing that he didn't want to talk.

You've been having seizures for the past 28 Hours. We've been unable to reach you cause of the lock-down. Thank god that you've managed to pull through all on your own.

2 of the medics quickly bought in a floating bed. The other medics quickly picked him up and lay him down on the bed. Before they started to take him towards the Med bay.

When Kita laid down on the bed, he began to feel really tired. The Rush from all the adrenalin had just worn off. He closed his eyes and just let go of his body.

When he regained consciousness, He found himself in the med bay, Hooked up with medical probes and other equipments.

"Welcome back Dr. Kita. You're now in stable condition. You just need to rest for a few days and you'll be back to full health.", His attending medic reported after seeing him regain consciousness.

"Where are we right now? Have we already left the star system?", He asked the medic.

"No, We're still in the star system."

Kita sighed a relief upon hearing that.

"Is there anything wrong with my body?", Kita asked the medic with a careful voice. He wanted to know if his suspicion was right and if the cuboid had integrated into his body. Kita looked at the medic with a patient gaze.

Medic quickly took a look at the tablet in his hand then turned to look towards him.

"Except for the extreme weakness and severe dehydration, there's nothing wrong with your body. All vital signs are good. And the full body scans shows nothing out of the ordinary." The medic reported in a straight tone.

This surprised Kita. This wasn't what he was expecting to hear. But He still didn't feel like that was all there was.

As he laid on the bed, He began to think back to the data about the energy lines. This was when something suddenly clicked in his mind. He widened his eyes in realization!

He quickly sat up on his bed. He frantically began to remove all the probes that was attached to his body. This alaramed the Medic.

"Dr. Kita, please stop. You're not in any condition to get up."

Kita ignored his warning and stood up after removing everything anyway. He quickly began to walk out of the med bay in a frantic manner.

He needed to get back to his Lab. NOW.

All the data he had read till now. Everything he had seen, deduced or theorized suddenly made sense. He could clearly understand what was going on that planet! And that produced such an euphoria that he ignored all the aches and pains in his partially sedated body and ran towards the nearest pod hatch.

As soon as he reached a pod, he got in and punched in his destination before the medic who was running behind him could stop him. By the time the medic had reached him, the pod was already on it's way towards his lab with him inside.

There was a lot that Kita needed to do. This wasn't the time to lay down on a bed. He had made a promise to Helen. And he was determined on keeping it. Nothing else mattered.
