Black Blood Mage

Stealing mushrooms and drinking urine is the only way many in the underground and Demon-controlled city of Adonia know how to live. In such a world, how could anyone–much less a young boy no older than five-years-old–survive?

Magic

"What is that?"

I warily moved closer to Kreechur who was still producing light from his hands. I just had to know what he was doing.

"Oh, this? You really want to know?"

Without stopping, Kreechur looked at me, and seemingly with an amused look on his face, asked me questions back.

"Just tell me."

Unamused, I snapped back.

"Fine. This is something called Magic, and one who uses it, is called a Mage. It's something only Demons that are Royal or Noble are able to know about, much less learn, aside from a small few special cases. It takes great talent to be able to master Magic.

"The use of Magic is called a "Spell" and they can come in many forms. An example is the Demon Pressure you utilized against me. That, my son, was one of the most basic spells that a Demon can learn."

He started ranting about something called "Magic", and as much as I hated to interrupt him, I had to.

"Demon Pressure? I never used anything like that."

"You might not have a name for it, but it's basically breathing in Mana, spreading it throughout your body, then releasing it. You used that against me earlier."

I tried to recall using what sounded like King's Aura, but Kreechur began speaking again before I could even begin to sift through the large amount of memories I simply skimmed through.

"Try to follow along with me. Start casting Demon Pressure, but when you send the Mana through your body, instead try to focus it to your hand. Then, try to visualize water forming above your hand. This spell is simply called, "Water", and is where all the water in Cocytus comes from."

The instructions from Kreechur came quickly, catching me off guard, but I was able to follow along.

"As my son, you should be able to get it within 15–no, 10 tries! Yes, that–"

On my first try, I was able to create a large ball of water above my right hand and began to mess around with it. I first increased and decreased the size, then changed its shape, and I was even able to make it float above the ground and into Kreechur's somehow-open mouth.

"Ahem. That's right. Of course my son's talent would surpass even Lucifer's son, that little brat. Just wait till that old fart sees this…"

Kreechur began to ramble on again, pulling a book from nowhere and scribbling things down with a pen that came from the same nowhere.

"Now what? That was pretty easy. Surely you have some more difficult spells?"

With a confident smirk on my face, I brought Kreechur back to the present as I taunted him.

"Here. Take this, then."

With a wave of his hand, a book fell from nowhere once again, its cover tattered and the pages worn to the point that I felt like they would fall apart at my touch. Then again, this may be what a book normally looks like as I've never seen one before.

"That's my personal Tome. Try to study all of the spells in there, but if you get stuck, don't hesitate to ask for help."

"Thank y–"

"But first, try to focus Mana into your left hand. There's a gift in there I left for you.
