The sun hit my face waking me up from my sleep. I cursed the moment I realized I forgot to close the window curtains last night, I tried to fight the light and rubbed my eyes as I got up from my bed, then walked to the bathroom.
"Jason!" I heard my mum's voice call from downstairs. I groaned and ignored. I smug after I opened the shower as hot tiny droplets of water dropped on me. I spent half an hour on the shower knowing this was the last day having a well temperature shower.
I opened my closet as soon as I dried my wet body. I decided on a maroon polo shirt, a khaki trouser and a maroon cardigan. I brushed my spiky hair then skipped my way down the stairs and was greeted by the amaizing view of blue berry muffins on the kitchen counter.
"Morning mum," I greeted with a smile stretching my hand picking one of the muffins. I chuckled at the taste of the muffins and immediately pick another. My mum noticed and gave me a warm smile.
"Morning son," she said back stretching her tiny neck giving me a forehead kiss, "I will put your bags in the car as you finish up your breakfast, "she offered and disappear upstairs. My sister was already in the kitchen finishing up breakfast.
Paula always woke up the first in our family except the weekends since she always caught up with the Teen Wolf series at five in the morning. My dad named her Alarmy, which my mum and I happily agreed. I always woke up the last but in time.
"Go get yourself a girlfriend Jason," Paula said in a skanky voice as she gulped down the rest of her orange juice.
"What makes you think I do not have a girlfriend, "I asked defensively.
" A lot of things. "
" Namely? "
"One, you always leave your phone in the living room or at most times dead. Meaning you barely talk to anyone. Two, your dressing is pathetic. Who wears khakis on his first day of school? "
" You don't know me well enough to judge me,"I said in a whiny tone then grabbed an apple from the refrigerator.
" Come on,let's go," my mum yelled from the hallway carrying two of my duffel bags. I thanked the gods for her presence since my sister's pep talk was getting weird, although she was right,"I'll see you at school Paula." My sister was waiting for the school bus.
My sister's words came through my mind. I once had a girlfriend in my senior year in high school. She was from Asia and her name was Kira. We only dated for a month after I cought her cheating with my best friend. I never did friends or girlfriends since then,I couldn't risk my feelings and never wanted to go through a heart break again.
I shook my head pushing the thoughts away then jerked the car door open. I climbed in as my mum turned the ignition on then pulled out the driveway. The drive to the college was quiet, music was playing in low tone as I fixed my gaze on the passing buildings and trees.
"We are here," my mum said with a warm smile thirty minutes later. The college gate was big written Hidden Valley College in black. It wasn't my first hearing the college name,I heard it several times in High school as people said it was one of the fanciest University in States and only rich or sponsored kids could afford it.
My heart began to race as I scanned through the school, goosebumps followed. The buildings were beautiful and somehow looked renovated. The school was filled with lawn and sprinklers all over, pavements well build and beautiful borders at the edge of the grass.
"You know what's good and bad hunny,I won't repeat what I said months ago,"my mum said in a whisper referring to the first day I joined college in New York as she parked the car in front of the administration. I nodded and pushed the door open, grabbed my bags and headed to the administration office while my mum followed.
I was handed my hostel keys by one of the secretary and I followed my mom to the car."I am gonna miss you," my mum said as she wrapped her hands around my shoulders and kissed my forehead.
"I'll miss you too," I said back noticing her gulp back her tears and forced a smile. She opened the car door and climbed in.
"Take care son. I'll see you soon." She started the car engine as I watched her pull out the parking lot and leave the institution.
"Back to prison, again." I whispered scanning through wondering where the hostels could be.
