Chapter 2

I was struggling to breathe. Every part of me felt empty. Alone. Dead.

The train had exploded, and by some miracle I survived. I had a few cuts and burns here and there, I even lost a finger, but my heart yearned for Jonathan.

I couldn't find him...

It had been around three days since the explosion, I've spent all three days by the river next to the train.

I looked over it as the sun was setting, the birds flying past and the fish swimming.

The smell of the smoke had faded and it was finally starting to smell like grass and... other plants.

It was hard to process what had happened.

I searched the entire outer part of the train, but I couldn't find him. I couldn't find Jonathan.

Why couldn't I find him?

I need him.

He was gone.

It felt like he wasn't, but there was no point of lying to myself.

The sun began to set and I wrapped the ripped jacket around myself. It was cold, lonely and quiet.

I hadn't eaten since the day it happened, I only drank the water, it made me sick.

I gazed at the lake, wondering how I had survived. Me of all people.

I eventually fell asleep.

"Haha, stop!" I say as I continue laughing before jumping up, my heart was pounding.

The deer quickly ran off back into the trees.

I broke down crying, but only for a few seconds before pulling myself together and following the deer.

I was sure there were berries somewhere near here.

I stepped into the forest, being hit by a cold breeze I had a gut feeling this wasn't going to end well.

I had been walking for what felt like hours, I had stitches and every part of me was burning and aching. My head was spinning but I had to keep going.

I had to make it across the forest.

I had to get somewhere, anywhere.

*Snap* I turn my head, my heart rate increased rapidly as I searched my surroundings.

*snap*

"Hello?" I call out but receive no answer to.

"If anybody is out here, please, somebody!" I cry out of frustration.

After many hours of loneliness I begin admiring the memories I had made with Jonathan

Poor Jonathan. All I can do is be grateful he had died fast instead of having to suffer.

Why couldn't it had been me instead? Jonathan would've known what to do in this situation, he would've taken care of me.

I get up and begin throwing bark, rocks, sticks, I was screaming in pain and agony. The frustration was eating me up.

Suddenly, I heard a noise.

*snap*

I wipe the tears out my eyes and use my sleeve to wipe my nose.

"Hello?" I yell out.

A figure runs past me as I jump, there was someone else out here.

"Grrrr"

Oh no...

I turn around and am met by a giant bear, it's dark eyes seemed to be glowing and it's fur looked so smooth, yet so rough.

I was blinded by its beauty, only to be brought back to reality when it swipes it claw at me but misses.

I begin running, I pass by many trees while constantly turning left to right. The bear begins to reach up to me and claws onto my leg.

"OWWW!" I scream in pain before using my other leg to kick it's face.

I quickly stand up and begin running again.

I climb up the tree as quickly as I can, my entire body was aching and shaking. I wasn't sure how long I could last up here, or at all...

The bear began to try to climb the tree while I kept kicking its paws, it eventually left me alone.

The sun had fallen and the forest was darker than ever.

It was cold and wet, I was starving, I was lonely, I was so, so sad.

I knew I'd probably be stuck out here for a while, I had to learn to survive if I wanna make it out.

Where would I even end up going after this? Back to where Jonathan and I planned? I'm not sure if I even want to be there anymore.

It'd pain me if I went there without him.

1 month later...

I woke up with the sun beaming in my face.

"Ugh" I groan before getting off the ground.

How could I have been weak for so long? I don't have anybody to protect me from danger, I don't have anybody to feed me, to care for me, to love me...

Whatever I did now, I had to do on my own.

I had been living out in the woods for quite a while now, thirty-five days to be exact.

I haven't had any contact with a human since the day of the accident, but life out here wasn't so bad.

I made my way down to the lake, it was clean enough to wash myself in.

*Snap*

I turn my head, doing my best to hear, like I had seen the deers do so.

*Snap*

"Who's there?" I ask sternly.

A man walks out of the bushes.

I was shocked, I could hardly form a word.

"I-, you-, but-" I say.

"Who are you?" He asks as he glares at me.

"I should be asking you the same thing." I say as I glare back at him.

"You're on my territory."

"Your territory?" I reply.

What does he mean by territory? This man seems like an idiot.

"Well, I really am sorry about that but I must get going." I say as I put my clothes back on and begin to walk away.

He grabs my arm, "I asked you something." He says.

I bite his arm and grab a rock, "touch me again, I dare you." I threaten.

He laughs and begins walking towards me, he continues to laugh but I can no longer hear it. My vision was turning blurry and my legs were too weak to continue keeping me up.

I eventually fell to the ground.
