In the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals, Montis faced Rhendia and Sahalir respectively.
Almost every member of the Montis team was maliciously targeted by players from these two nations.
The most intense and heartbreaking match, however, was the one between Montis and Oryza.
Quintus Primus is one of Montis's Four Pillar, he sacrificed himself and his Spirit Beasts to ensure that the team captain, Alexei Yudin, could enter the finals against the Oryza team in peak condition.
Quintus took on a 1v2 battle in the world's top-tier Spirit Beast tournament, knowing full well the toll it would take.
By the end, all five of his Spirit Beasts—already injured from previous matches—had been critically wounded, and he himself collapsed on the field from spiritual energy exhaustion, making him completely unfit to participate in any further matches.
At this point, it's worth introducing the concept of Spirit Beast battles in this world.
Because Spirit Beasts on Gaia require a long cultivation period, and the number of Spirit Beasts a person can contract is directly tied to their spiritual energy capacity, a set of rules was created to balance the disparity in contracted Spirit Beast numbers among professional Beast Masters.
These rules are tailored to different types of competitions, with the highest-tier event being the World League Tournament.
The World League Tournament is organized by the International Spirit Beast League and features teams of ten elite Beast Masters from each country.
It is the largest and most prestigious global tournament.
The individual and team matches both follow a classic 6v6 single-battle format, where a maximum of six Spirit Beasts can be sent out per match.
Victory is achieved when all the opponent's Spirit Beasts lose the ability to fight or their Beast Master concedes.
In order accommodate differences in spiritual energy and contracted Spirit Beasts among participants, the "6v6" rule only limits the maximum number of Spirit Beasts that can be used.
If a participant does not have six Spirit Beasts, they can report this to the referee in advance and use Elemental Crystals or Max-Evolution Stones to fill the gap.
Elemental Crystals and Max-Evolution Stones are modern conveniences developed through advances in Max-Evolution technology.
These special stones allowing Beast Masters to pre-inject thier spiritual energy into them, enabling a one-time energy-free evolution or skill attribute transformation during battles.
Unlike some fantasy worlds where spiritual energy can be increased through cultivation, the spiritual energy of people in Gaia is innate.
Even though spiritual energy can accumulate over time, a person's spiritual energy talent is determined at birth.
This makes the strategic allocation of spiritual energy during each match one of the biggest tests of a professional Beast Master's skills on advanced battlefields.
As a result, Gaia's professional Beast Masters, rather than mindlessly contracting six Spirit Beasts to meet competition requirements, they tend to focus on cultivating a few main Spirit Beasts with multiple evolutionary paths.
During matches, they use the remaining slots to equipped their main Spirit Beasts with Elemental Crystals or Max-Evolution stones, allowing them to execute additional evolutions during battle.
