Beacons Of The Dark Age

An apocalypse that wiped out 82% of humanities population. Myths that seemed to come out of a kid's story book or folklore and the 'Curse of time' that lingers on every human's skin. In a world ravaged by mythical creatures, where one must kill in order to live and see another sunrise. Vic is born into this post apocalyptic world, where he watches his father succumb to the curse of time. By becoming a beacon, he swore to evolve himself to the limit and destroy the 'void of myths' that had caused suffering and misery to the remaining population.

Strange lady

What was that? I can't really see beyond the smoke, might as well check it out, I also think south is that way having lost his sense of direction since the moment he left the graveyard, he had been walking aimlessly around the city, now after seeing another sign of life which was very rare, he wanted to check it out.

Since the myths ravaged earth , the small population that didn't go through the void, formed small groups, to hunt the myths together, keep company, and to also protect each other from the misfits who didn't seem to fit in with the new world order.

"Might as well test it out" mumbling to himself he walked towards the edge of the building, and with little to no hesitation, jumped.

*Crush*

With a crashing sound he landed on the tarmacked road, but to his suprise, other than his bare feet getting hot, there was no other physical pain.

"Cool" with a smirk he shot forward towards the explosion.

...

With only thirty seconds he was already on site.

Squatting across the street behind one of the collapsed building, Vic tried to peek through the window spaces.

The sight was like one he'd never seen before, no matter how strong trancenders were, accomplishing something like this was well out of their league.

After the smoke cleared, the five storey building came to view, it had three 2 meters wide holes going through it, on its left, stood a four storey building, that seemed to have been horizontally cut in half with a giant sword. The tarmacked road was in an even bigger mess, there were four craters, 2 meters wide and 4 foot deep, with each one of them having a virtical slash cutting through them.

"It's dangerous out here"

When Vic heard the cold feminine voice, he stood up in an instant and took on an amateur battle stance.

...

Infront of him was a young woman who looked to have been in her thirties, with waist length black blaids and brown eyes. At the moment she was in what seemed like a military uniform, strapped around her left hip was a sword sheath, her right hand held a black katana.

"What are you doing here?" With a cold expression she asked.

Vic was confused, he didn't know how to answer her, why was he here?

"You're one of them, here to learn, Aren't you? I should just kill you now and buy you a direct ticket to paradise"

Vic was getting more confused, one of who? What paradise? What the? But before he could answer any of the questions, something cold touched his throat.

The braided woman had supposedly closed the gap, before Vic even had the chance to brink and her black katana was now on Vic's neck.

"Looks like you don't plan on speaking" she said with her cold now mixed with pity expression.

After becoming a trancender, Vic had thought of himself as an apex predator, someone who can traverse through this city of ruin without anyone or anything being capable of interfering or disrupting him from his goals.

Now that he had meet one of someone who even by the speed she moved with, Vic could tell she was leagues above him, and now somehow in his heart he new she wasn't even the strongest one.

Pulling himself back to reality

"One...one of who?" He asked his voice trembling in fear.

"So you can talk, what are you doing here?"

"I'm heading south" he answered his whole body still shaking, judging by her expression he knew she could end him in less than a second.

Vic didn't really fear death, he feared not fulfilling his own promise.

"For what?"

"I want to go through the void" Vic answered with annoyance in his tone, was she some kind of an officer back then?, she has so many questions.

Drawing her sword back from his neck, she sheathed it and moved back a little.

"Has your curse activated?" She asked with an emotionless face.

"Not yet" rubbing his neck, Vic looked at her and answered.

When Vic answered her, she just looked at him for more than thirty seconds with her emotionless face, then turned around and walked back towards the tarmac road.

"Follow me" she said before dashing forward.

Huh! Vic was speechless, but before he knew it, he was running after her.

What I'm I even doing? I don't even know her, for all I know she could be planning to kill me somewhere else Vic didn't really think it was a good idea to follow a stranger, but his instincts were telling him to follow and they have never once in his life failed him.

After catching up to her_which wasn't really that hard considering she wasn't going at full speed, Vic looked at her for five seconds before finally gaining enough courage to ask

"Where are we going?"

She looked at her with her indifferent expression

"Manage to keep up, and you'll find out soon enough" and with that she accelerated forward, faster than before.

Vic using his maximum speed, tried to follow behind, but she was too fast.

If not for the fact that the road they were running through was straight and adding the fact that his eyesight was now improved, Vic would have lost her.

But he didn't, and finally their sprinting came to a stop.

...

Standing infront of a warehouse, Vic breathed in a lungful of air, before stepping in through the door that was wide enough for a pick up truck to go through.

He took about three steps in, but before his eyes even adjusted to the darkness.

His left cheek was punched so hard that he almost forgot how to breath _ well he didn't, he was just sent flying and hit the concrete wall of the warehouse.

"Is that really all you've got?"
