Beacons Of The Dark Age

An apocalypse that wiped out 82% of humanities population. Myths that seemed to come out of a kid's story book or folklore and the 'Curse of time' that lingers on every human's skin. In a world ravaged by mythical creatures, where one must kill in order to live and see another sunrise. Vic is born into this post apocalyptic world, where he watches his father succumb to the curse of time. By becoming a beacon, he swore to evolve himself to the limit and destroy the 'void of myths' that had caused suffering and misery to the remaining population.

Memories

"After midnight, that's when those roaches will begin to come out and play" Anna said her voice full anger.

Vic didn't speak any more and just continued sharpening his katana.

When the clock hits midnight all the myths turn to specs of light and disappear, this has always been how the void operates. From 6 in the morning of the first full moon to midnight. And also the so called Believers of Time, they hunt and kill people after that, when they have already finished accumulating their time.

...

After about an hour of silence, Vic put down the rock he had before standing up, he looked at Anna with an emotionless face.

"Do you have a lead this time?

"Yeah, I heard that two of their newly evolved Manipulators were planning to laid a small group that had supposedly settled at one of the ancient cathedral on the east."

When Vic heard the name, cold sweat run down his back. Throughout the five months, they hadn't encountered a Manipulator, and the first time they do it's not gonna be one but two.

Not that he didn't believe in her strength, he had already seen her fight on multiple occasions and she wasn't using her full strength, even so, two Manipulators against one would be hard, if not straight up impossible.

The sole reason why Vic didn't count himself as backup, was because Anna had previously told him that he wasn't ready, and indeed he wasn't _ and even if he was what could he possibly do on a battle against monsters.

....

After killing the first Believers they encountered, Vic had fainted for two hours, it was his first time witnessing a murder and his initial reaction was fainting.

During the course of the five months Vic hadn't faught any human other than Anna, he had just recently earned the courage to witness an ongoing murder and so killing humans was still a no, but the myths were a totally different case.

His first time killing one was supposedly the best day of his life, after training with Anna, even if the current grounded myths were still stronger, compared to him they were like toddlers.

Killing them was amusing to him, he would even laugh like a maniac at times while doing it, and that's the sole reason why his time was so long even after getting about thirty minutes of hunting.

Anna had supposedly given him a schedule, even though they weren't on good terms, she still trained him, though this time wasn't as extensive as the first. When Vic asked Anna the reason, she would always answer plainly If I wanted a corpse to accompany me I would've killed you a long time ago.

Every day they would spar for 10 hours to kill time.

Vic, even though he didn't show it always enjoyed their training session, he was getting alot stronger without additional compensation.

At the moment, judging by the Trancenders Anna had killed, Vic was confident enough that he would take on less experienced ones.

"Let's go" Anna said walking towards the door before stopping "almost forgot, even if you won't affect the outcome of the battle, this time be prepared to fight, and maybe even die."

Vic just smiled nervously, he couldn't really run away from this. He tried that once which didn't end well for him.

He walked towards the corner that Anna previously sat, bending down he took a black leather sheath that was laying their, buckled it on his back, sheathed his silver katana, before walking towards the door.

...

The eerie silence of the night that was now illuminated by the crimson moon and the red line, was filled with footsteps.

" How are we gonna win?" He didn't wanna ask this question, but it was already an inevitability so it was better to be prepared.

Anna was momentarily at a loss of words, Vic hadn't once started a conversation with her since she forced him to help her with revenge. He always asked direct questions that required direct answers and no room for a conversation.

"Big sis, big sis, look what I got" a kid no more than eight years old, ran across a theme park with his hand raised up holding a toy car. " Dad" with a genuine smile from ear to ear, he lifted his toy car even higher so that the girl before him could see it

" dad got me this one."

"I got this too" a girl, about ten years old said, showing off her new white dress that sparkled under the light "and dad said no running"

"You're just jealous I got a better gift that you"

"No you didn't"

"Yes I did, it can even move without being pushed"

"Mines better, it even have sparkles"

"No it's not "

"It is"

"Now now no fighting, we are here to celebrate" their little argument was broken by a hoarse but gentle voice.

"Dad, tell her mines better" holding his father's hand, the boy said with a voice that sounded like he was about to cry.

" All of them are great" with a nervous smile " now how about we go water ride"

"Yay"

"Yes"

They both said in unison, as if having forgotten their little argument.

The man squatted and picked both of them up in each hand, with smiles in all their faces, they walked towards the waters slide.

" I'll figure it out" Anna answered after a minute of silence.
