Beacons Of The Dark Age

An apocalypse that wiped out 82% of humanities population. Myths that seemed to come out of a kid's story book or folklore and the 'Curse of time' that lingers on every human's skin. In a world ravaged by mythical creatures, where one must kill in order to live and see another sunrise. Vic is born into this post apocalyptic world, where he watches his father succumb to the curse of time. By becoming a beacon, he swore to evolve himself to the limit and destroy the 'void of myths' that had caused suffering and misery to the remaining population.

Ha! I don't think I can keep it up for much longer drenched in sweat, Vic stood up and once more tried to take on the orthodox stance.

Sweet dribbling down his face like an endless fountain, his eyes a blur, he tried to lift his arm onto a perfect stance but a stinging pain cursed through his whole body, making him stagger back and fall.

"What? Tired already? Are you planning to go through the void, face all nine level myths with only that?" Standing there with her usual indifferent expression, Anna asked.

Vic didn't answer, he couldn't find the words to use, he just evasively stared at her.

They had been at it for over a day, looking through the sliced door, he watched as the sun rose and set, without a break they trained, and now dawn was breaking and she still wanted them to continue.

"How much time do you have?" With a raised eyebrow, Vic asked, after using the last bit of energy to stand up.

"Why?"

Why? Isn't today shadow drop? Am I really that tired that I'm seeing things? I thought today was a full moon Vic pondered in confusion.

The shadow drop was in two days, adding the hours he had trained, when dawn broke the void would start releasing the myths.

Seeing the confusion in his face, Anna somehow guessed what Vic was implying.

Taking the coat she had somehow stayed in through the whole training, leaving her white vest to reveal her figure. Despite being mascular, her body was well tonned, having curves in all the right places.

Inspite her curves that were revealed under the coat, Vic didn't seem to notice it _or he just played dumb, but what really picked his interest was the tattoo that was engraved on her right shoulder.

That's about right her having so much extra time even though the last shadow was a month ago wasn't that surprising to him, after all she was a Manipulator a step higher than the myths that were being released.

But even so his father had told him the reason the area they lived in was abandoned, which was that grounded myths were reducing and the void hadn't shown any signs of increasing their number. And the ones that were being released were so much stronger than your average grounded myth.

Even if he wasn't surprised he was still confused, hesitating for a moment he finally asked.

"Aren't the myths fewer in number, especially on this part of the country? How do you have so much time?"

Staring at him with a confused look, Anna answered

"I never told you I hunt myths for time"

Huh! Then how else would she increase her time Vic didn't want to think for the other possibility, but it seemed that he was lucky and after about thirty seconds of silence she revealed her alternative.

"I hunt people"

Vic had his mouth wide open, his whole body was shaking, his heartbeat increased tenfold, everything went quiet and only his breathing could be heard.

He had assumed that Anna was the sole survivor from the group she had told him about, but now he wasn't so sure, she casually revealed how she Hunt's humans for time.

At this moment Vic was thinking of a way he could escape her grasp.

He was somewhat willing to share every detail in his life, telling her about his group, what if he doomed them, maybe she was even waiting for his curse to activate so that she could have something to take from him.

How can I be so stupid Vic was even more angry at himself, he almost trusted her, he even believed she would help her.

...

When Anna saw Vic's fear, she almost smiled he really does remind me alot about you she looked at his eyes which were filled with terror and in an instant moved behind him tapping his shoulder.

Am I really not gonna be able to fulfill my own promise? No way Vic was about to turn around and fight her, being his whole reason for survival, Vic was prepared to fight or atleast try for that one promise, but before he could an appealing voice resounded.

"I won't hurt you"

That wouldn't really reassure a person, but from her voice, the face she made after he looked at her everything about her, showed nothing but sincerity.

Vic's face eased up a little but there was little to nothing he could do about his heart.

After calming down Vic looked at her, his face asking for answers or some sort of an explanation.

Anna didn't like beating around the bush, especially if what she had to say didn't affect her lively hood.

Without waiting for the question, she went straight to the explanation.

"I'm sure you figured out who the sole survivor was after the encounter"

Vic heaved a sigh of relief, he wasn't off mark, even though he didn't know the reason for what she does, he had some theories but this time he wanted the whole reason, so he didn't interrupt her.

"After their death I couldn't bring myself to go back to the groups and instead choose the hardest path, the only path that made me feel like I would get closure from if I walked to the end, the path of revenge."

Vic seemed to somehow relate to her, the curse had taken his father and as a result he had sworn to destroy it, so you could call it some sort of revenge.

"When I saw their lifeless bodies laying their, I swore to never kill any myth or anyone who wasn't a believer of time for additional time in my life.

I swore to hunt them to the ends of the world and if I die in the process then so be it" her cold eye's now shinning with conviction " atleast I can join my comrades in the afterlife_if their's even any, with my head held up high and with no regrets."

She really is like me, no wonder my gut told me to follow her Vic looked at her, his lips curling upwards.
