Half a century after the Deep Sea Exploration Project ended, Tyrion finally felt once again that lingering chill from the project's enduring legacy.
The successive resurfacing of "Submersible No. 3" seemed to appear once more before his eyes, and with them in his mind's eye were the cautious soldiers, the solemn priests, and the icy, silent Frost Queen. He seemed to see again those submersible hatches opening, crazed explorers emerging, faux humans, swollen and misshapen monsters, writhing amorphous flesh, eerily still mud, desiccated and suspicious black fibers... and then... seeing the seventh "Submersible No. 3" with its hollow cabin.
"At the time, the platform was fortified with extremely thorough defenses, with a large number of priests and guardians overseeing the site," Tyrion said, frowning as he recounted, "But... I must admit, your question is rather frightening."
