Are You My Pup's Father?

“I knew when I saw you the other night,” Jasper said, his voice tender, “that you were the one.” I blinked and my heart went crazy. “The one, what?” “I knew that you were my mate.” — Adele was told that she can’t bear a child. However, when her lab results come back ‘pregnant’, she’s torn between two potential fathers— her best friend who brought her to her room, or the hunky man she woke up next to. To top it off, her parents just made a deal to marry her to Red Moon Pack’s Alpha without her consent. She scrambles to handle everything while fighting hard to keep her baby. — I don’t know what compelled me to say it, maybe the heat running through me, maybe desire. I added, “So I’m just standing here naked, talking to you.” Damien exhaled sharply, and I could tell I got the rise out of him I’d wanted. “You don’t have to stand there alone, think about me while you’re naked,” he whispered. Chapter 1: Am I pregnant?

Adele’s POV

Nausea, check.

Fatigue, check.

Missing period, check.

Appetite change…I looked at my plate of eggs and my coffee, my favorite breakfast combo for as long as I was allowed to drink coffee, and realized that they no longer hold any appeal to me. So check.

I stared at the article named “Early Signs of Pregnancy” and I could start to hear my heartbeat picking up. How was this possible?!

Well, I meant, yes, I did have sex, but that wasn’t the point!

The point was, I was told my entire life that I wouldn't be able to carry a child and I had long given up the hope to ever be a mother. Yet, here I was, based on my online research, it seemed that the Moon Goddess might have changed her plan for me.

What was I supposed to do?! How would I tell my family?

And most importantly, if that was the case, I meant, if I was truly pregnant… I had a bigger problem– who was my pup’s father?

***

“Come on, Adele, how often do we have a party like this?” My best friend and all-time crush, Damien held my hand, trying to lead me to the dance floor.

“Just let me finish this drink!” I giggled back at him, as I grabbed my fourth skinny margarita from the bartender.

It was a celebration party in the Blue Sky Pack’s grand ballroom, where the decorations glitter in glitter and gold. We all partied over the peace treaty between our pack and the Red Moon, and the open bar got me a little reckless.

Something about being around my pack and my people made me let loose. I guess I always go to those silly things hoping I can find a mate, but who would want to mate a wolf like me?

I couldn’t bear a child, I was told, and that meant my mate could never have his offspring if he chose me…

However, it was a happy moment for the pack, and I had a few drinks – enough to forget about those unhappy thoughts for the time being and just focus on enjoying the moment.

The music had been poppy and loud, and the whole vibe was just so much fun. I remembered pulling my long, wavy, chestnut hair out from its ponytail so it could flow over my shoulders.

“Wow girl! Don’t you look beautiful!” Damien grinned at me. He had also been drinking through the evening and been a bit tipsy.

I giggled and joined him on the dance floor. “You looked incredible tonight too,” I shouted.

I had caught those cute dimples on his handsome face smiling when he looked into my eyes. His blonde hair was freshly cut in a high and tight, and all the strobe lights made his sharp eyes all the greener. He had been in a tight white v-neck, pale jeans, and these big work boots. I couldn’t believe he could dance as hard as he was wearing them.

“I looked incredible only tonight?” He leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear. As loud as the music was, I was able to hear his hoarse voice clearly. It sent a chill down my spine.

I squinted and studied his face with a silly smile. He was indeed handsome. Not just tonight.

I’d always like him. He knew that too.

I shook my head. “Um…you know, I’ve always…” My voice trailed off and my head started to get dizzy.

Damien noticed that I was losing my balance, and he wrapped one of his arms around my waist to stabilize me. “You’ve always what?” He blew warm air in my ears as he held me closer.

A waitress in a shirt skirt holding a tray of shots walked by to us. “More drinks?” she offered.

I took one and chucked it down, so did Damien.

The alcohol had made old feelings gush out. The music got slow and sweet, and I had rested my head against Damien’s chest while we slow-danced. His strong arms pressed me against his body.

I could feel the heat of both of our bodies.

I looked up to seek his eyes. As soon as I lifted my head, I noticed that his gorgeous green eyes were already locked on me.

It wasn’t a secret that we both liked each other. That was why even though we knew it would never work out between us due to my inability to carry a child, we stayed as friends.

Things would be so different if I would be able to conceive…

“Damien…” I whispered.

“I’m here,” he answered, and I could see desire in his eyes too. “Do you want to say something to me, Adele?”

I nodded my head, and complained, “My head is dizzy.”

He froze for a moment, and then chuckled. Then I heard him whisper into my ear, “Let me take you to your room.”

My mind started to get foggy and I simply trusted him and let him lead me to my room in the hotel where the party was held.

“The bed is so comfy!” I exclaimed as Damien laid me down, but my arms were still around his neck.

“Yeah, not bad, huh?” he commented. His face was quite red from the alcohol. I was sure mine must be the same too.

We had been drinking buddies, and we sometimes helped each other to bed if the other person was drunk. This wasn’t our first drill, and neither of us over thought it.

However, tonight, something was different. He tried to stand up, but failed, because I didn’t let go of his neck.

He smiled at me charmingly. “Be good. Are you better now?” he asked.

“Do you mean my head?” I asked, then I nodded, “probably.”

“Okay…then…I’m going to go back to my…” he started to pull back again, except this time, I dragged him down towards me. “Don’t go…” I murmured, “Don’t leave…”

He gasped.

“You asked whether I wanted to say something?” I asked him.

He didn’t answer.

My head started to pound, but I felt I needed to let it out. Thanks to the alcohol, I looked him in the eye and told him something that I’d never said if I was sober, “I’ve always liked you. If… if it wasn’t for my… my condition, would you be with me?”

Mixed emotions flashed on his face, and he frowned. His thumbs caressed my cheeks, and I saw fire in his eyes.

“Would you?” I pressed. My head was pounding even louder. I was struggling to keep my eyes open.

Tears fell off my cheeks.

Even now, he still didn’t want me. I laughed at myself bitterly. It was right. He would never choose me over his mother.

I closed my eyes and let go of him.

However, before I lost my consciousness, I felt warm and soft lips pressed against mine. Yes, it was Damien!

My eyelids were too heavy to be opened, but I could feel that his kisses were passionate and his body collapsed on top of me. His tongue reached out and licked my lips.

I tried to respond to him, however, darkness took me as I heard a gentle sigh.

When I was woken up by the birds chirping outside the next morning, the pounding headache reminded me that I had gotten way too drunk at the party.

I replayed what occurred last night until that kiss.

At the moment, something—someone next to me wiggled and scared me to death. I wasn’t alone!

I rubbed my temple… did I sleep with Damien last night?

I turned my head to check on him, but then froze.

The naked man next to me wasn’t Damien!
