Chapter 6 - Evolver and a Survivors

(Author's Note - I was actually planning on using this title for the last one. However, I decided to make this on the one that Rain becomes an Evolver.)

Another new day has arrived. Grabbing a weeks worth of supplies in my backpack, a roll of Chinese firecrackers, a normal firecracker and a lighter I headed out to the car and left to go level up. Today I decided to go against the better part of valor and head over to the medium size community once again. However, this time I decided that if I encountered a single magic mutation as I feared might exist I would get out of there right away. Wondering how I planned to run? Well, all I have to do is sit on the front of the gate on the small building and light a firecracker and have it pushed in further using two layers of wind magic. After pushing it in I would let it sound by itself and when the zombies come to the source of the sound just throw another one in but this time only push it using a single layer of wind magic so it lands just past the gate so they swarm the gates again. Then from there, I can just pick them off using wind magic and the guns. After all, I have to be able to at least hit one in the head if they appeared in a dense pack of them, right?

(Author's Note - Chinese firecrackers are those long line of loud firecrackers that sound like a bunch of gunshots is going off during Chinese new years. Also, they sting if you get hit by one of what fly off when they are going off. I've been hit once and dang that hurt since it was still burning hot. It even burned off a few pieces of my arm's hair of where it had hit since I was to close when it went off. A normal firecracker is the one that kind of firecrackers kind you find in America that are the singular sticks compared to the Chinese ones that are a chain of small firecrackers or a roll of them. )

After heading to the small community to pick up the ladder and driving back over and setting myself on the roof of the small building I prepared my diversion trap to pull the zombies. Standing on the roof I grabbed the lighter and Chinese firecracker first since it's a much longer and consistent chain of sounds that come off it. After lighting it on fire and throwing it and immediately using my wind magic to thrust it forwards twice at a 40-degree angle letting it pop off the whole time it was flying forwards from the first push. While the loud popping sounds that remind me of gunshots or just generally loud sounds explosive sounds like that going off for a minute were going off I could see off in the distance that many zombies from further down the road walking down towards the sounds of the fireworks that were going off. When the zombies arrived I lit the firecracker and tossed it into the air and used wind magic to make it go off away from me. Right as it was about to land on the ground it went off causing the horde of zombies that were around a good few dozen meters away from the gates to all start moving towards the gate. I couldn't even count how many there was right in front of me. However, with that many, that was enough for them to swarm and over flood the gates if I wasn't careful.

(Author's Note - Welp on a min 200 and max 1,000 zombies I got 319 zombies. I was hoping for closer to 400 but oh well.)

Analyzing the zombies that were quickly moving towards the gate and using my analysis scan I quickly selected the whole horde of zombies as my target of scanning. The analysis provided information that there were 319 zombies. A total of 143 level 1 zombie, along with 31 that were level 2 zombie, a single level three zombie, and zero mutants. However, there was still a few more zombies coming from the end of the turn of the road I could see. I pulled the loaded gun out undid the safety and shot a fired three shots of my 16 bullets into the group. Two of which killed a zombie providing zero experience. Following that, I summoned a wind blade and enchanted it and tossed it into the crowd of zombies and when it was at the head level of most of the zombies I sent it flying horizontally using two layers of wind magic. Having pierced a total of ten zombies' heads before stopping in the tree on the side of the road.

Gaining 10 experience from them I once again summoned a wind blade using magic, enchanting it, tossing and using two layers of wind magic to force it to launch forward to make use of the wind magic's effectiveness to cull their heads. I repeated this another two times. I let my magic refill while the zombie bodies quickly devoured their own. After they finished devouring the dead bodies they continued to move forwards again towards the gate, however, with how many there were the rows of bodies I killed still hadn't lasted them all that long just around 9 minutes long. Given that I only had around 0.9 magic points and still needed to stall them for a little longer I decided to risk using a bad tactic to bait them for a little bit. I grabbed a small bag of meat that contained around a few pounds of meat. After grabbing the bag of meat I threw it as hard as I could into the crowd of zombies with the bag slightly open so the smell of the blood on the meat from it defrosting would attract them forcing a larger portion of them to slow down.

I guess luckily enough it landed on top of the head of a level one zombie causing that level one zombie to pushed down by the rest in the surroundings trying to grab the meat. With it being pushed down and swarmed causing it to be stepped on causing any part of the body to be smashed. When they finished the meat they started to tear into the zombie's body since its head got stepped on by chance two zombies were grabbing the bag of meat and caused it to move further back into the horde. With the shift in movement in around half of the horde back a bit it caused it to get stepped on nearly killing it. Firing another three shots one that barely hit the head of the now dead zombie and two that only passed through the bodies of others.

Delaying the hordes push on the gates I continued to allow my magic to regenerate. After fighting over the body and the meat the zombies continued moving forwards once again. This time, however, they didn't take as long to finish eating only around another three to four minutes. While it wasn't enough to regenerate my magic fully. It was, however, enough to have my max magic stat go to 1.71 points from 1.70 points and my current remaining magic at 1.3 After throwing using the same tactics another three times when I started culling the horde the number of zombies that had started from the original 319 zombies dropped to 248 of them with the zombies still at the end of the road still slowly walking down towards the horde in what appeared to likely be another 10 minutes. When they arrived another 20 zombies would join the horde and from what my analysis skill showed was that in this group were of 8 zombies of level 1, plus a group of 7 zombies at level 2, a group of 4 zombies at level 3, with one of them being a level 4 zombie.

After using my magic stat back down using my 0.4 cost strategy I had a total of 0.3 remaining as it had regenerated for two minutes already while they were eating. This time since I killed in three lines next to each other they finished the bodies on the outside before moving inwards to finish the bodies of the middle row. This tactic compared to the last one of firing it off in multiple different directions gave me more time to allow my magic to regenerate. This time when they finished eating the bodies it took them around ten minutes. With this, although the numbers go cut down by around another 28 dropping it down to 220 of them the stronger members in the back that happened to come even more slowly refilling it back to 240 making it feel as if I only had killed eight of them. However, having gained ten minutes this time I had 1.3 magic stats with a max of 1.72 now. Using the same tactic I killed another three lines of zombies dropping my magic stat drop down to 0.1 points and their numbers by 29 zombies. After they feasted for another 10 minutes they once again continued to the gate. Although they couldn't climb the gate they kept pressing against the gate causing the sturdy gate to show signs of deformity after just another three minutes of them pushing at it. Forced to use my magic that had reached 1.4 I killed off another three rows using 1.2 magic points leaving me with 0.2 points. They once again finished eating in 10 minutes despite losing another 27 of them. With still 184 zombies they continued to push on the strong iron gate without a care in the world. With so many hitting on the same gate, it once again gained a few more dents through with another three minutes of hitting before I continued attacking.

Having recharged up to 1.5 points I used another 1.2 magic killing 28 this time and summoned a spare blade in my hand to make my magic go down to 0.2 using this chance I threw the wind blade into the crowd of zombies however this blade failed to hit any of them in the head and pierced one the unlucky female zombie through the chest leaving it to bleed but live. Having no choice but to wait while my magic recharged to 1.2 when they finished eating again. After letting them bang on the gate for two minutes this time I killed off another 24 of them. This left a total of 132 of the zombies remaining still. Letting them devour the bodies again for another 10 minutes cause there were just too many bloody zombies just taking chunks of them like they haven't had anything to eat for a week. At this point, before the gates was a huge amount of blood flowing on the ground and some random holes in the ground from my enchanted wind blades. Having once again banged on the now majorly deformed gate. I launched another spree of my magic blades this time in the more condensed sections of the horde and had managed to kill 35 of them in this try causing the numbers to finally drop below 100 as it now sat at 97 zombies remaining. However, the problem with all the killing and letting them eat was that many of the zombies were starting to level up as well. This although fewer zombies remained the rest had raised their quality of them as well. This wouldn't be a problem had it not been for the fact that the gate was wide enough to only 50 of them at once anyway. So in the gate was still being swarmed. With nothing allowed the zombies to bang away at the gate for two minutes recharging my magic to 1.6 this time since they ate for 12 minutes this time. Launching four blades of fast piercing wind blades through the air killing a total of 39 of them. With only 58 remaining higher quality zombies left they continued to eat and a few more broke to into level four as well. With the higher quality of zombies having finished eating after 14 minutes, I immediately killed off more three more groups of zombies however this time after two my blades launched forward I used another push of magic on them to change their angle forcibly. Using all my magic once again, however, pleased I was from killing another 22 off. With 36 zombies eating the 22 bodies the speed once of devouring the bodies was once again much slower.

Actually having enough time to recharged up to 1.78 which was my new max magic stat points. I immediately launched two enchanted wind blades and used two winds blades to push it forwards then another two compressed layers of wind to change its direction causing them to kill another 24 causing there to be only 12 zombies remaining. By this point, I was getting tired from using and exhausting magic so many times under a high-pressure situation where if I allowed them to break through the gate and swarm the building I was at once they broke the glass walls or the brick walls the building would collapse causing me to become zombie chow. Even if I had a small pistol to help I wouldn't have been to do anything even with a pistol at close range when there was over 50 of them swarming onto me.

Using the wind blades again the same way as before I killed off another 8 zombies. With this, there were only 4 zombies left. I finally had time to take a break from killing for around 30 minutes. As each zombie ate around two bodies each by themselves of the 8 bodies. After the remaining zombies finished eating they were all at level five with one of them being close to level 6. I killed the three that were further from level five and let the last one devour their bodies. When it was devouring the other three bodies which took around 45 minutes. I had noticed I became level 9 and needed just some experience still to become level 10. I had put my stat into speed again causing it to rise to 1.3 points in total. When it finished eating it had become level six and some extra by around 6 points of extra experience towards level seven. I decided since it was my first time seeing such a high-level zombie I decided to use analysis on it again to check it's new stats.

Attributes - Strength 1.5, Speed 1.0, Stamina Infinite, Immunity 0.5, Infectivity 1.1, and Magic 0

Skills - None

It definitely had some high stats compared to the rest of the zombies I had fought in close combat besides the strength zombie. That one still won by far. Although that one lost in Speed by a few tenths of a point and Infectivity by 0.1 points it had a higher strength by around 0.6. I guess that's what makes the mutants so scary considering that one was still level 3 when I killed it. Imagining if it was level 6 now that would've been terrifying. I mostly only won against it due to it's slower speed in the first part so that was something that was hard to think about. However, there was one thing about this one I didn't get. It says "Mid-tier Normal" does that mean like a human it transforms at level 10 for sure? Then again, it could also mean it's halfway through a mutation. Deciding that it was too much of a risk to observe it for much longer I got down while it was taking its last few bites on the last body then I used wind magic to launch myself over the gates. I needed some practice fighting zombies after all. I have been rather dependent on magic for a while or rather for too long. Pulling the hunting knife, I always grabbed as a safety tool with me on these excursions, out as it got up and turned around facing me. What faced me was a slightly middle age looking male body around the age of 43. However, due to it's shriveled skin from lack of water it seemed to also be around the age of 64. However, the black hair, the officer worker ripped suit, and slightly seemingly well-defined features of the face said that it was definitely younger than 64.

Charging at the zombie using the well taken care of hunting knife I slashed at the outstretched left arm at me and hit its left arm at the wrist trying to cut it off. However, similar to the strength zombie its skin felt harder to cut through by a bit off than 30% of what the normal level one zombies did. Having used my full strength on the cut I only cut into the bone before the right arm descended upon me causing me to quickly turn the grip of the hunting knife to a reverse grip and then using the hunting knifes jagged edge I pulled out the knife while pushing the knife into the bone to lift the left arm while dodging to the left. After pulling the knife I used the knife in the reverse grip and stabbed down into the left wrist of the zombie once again with full force cracking the bones in the wrist this time causing the zombies left wrist to bleed from being cut deeply while hanging limply due to the shatter bones from the point on the impact of gravity and my full force smashing into the left wrist.

Backing up with the hunting knife back in a normal grip again I faced the zombie that seemed to be aggravated at me. Dodding the strike from the right arm coming at me I used my magic to enchant the blade and sever the right wrist of the zombie sending the right hand of the zombie flying off. Having finished disabling the zombie's means of attacking me besides its bite and danging left wrist that likely wouldn't cause me any trouble I backed off for a little bit. Although I wanted to back off the zombie charged at me flailing its limp left wrist trying to claw me and bite me while snapping its jaws at me as the zombie growled at me. Forcing myself to speed up and dodge to the right while it crashed into the gate causing it to hurt its head causing blood to start flowing out of its head where it crashed. Right as I was about to charge for the zombie I heard a scream behind me.

(???) - "NOOOOO!! DON'T KILL DAD!!! PLEASE!!!"

Freaking out since although it was a ways behind me scared me I dodged backward and to the right. Turning around quickly I could a female around the age of 18 standing in the middle of the road crying watching me fight the zombie and the splashing blood on the ground. I faced back towards the zombie and summoned a wind blade while enchanting it and launching it towards the zombie's right leg cutting it off. After cutting off the leg I backed away more since it crawls at a pace much slower than it's original speed now I had room for leeway since it was comparable to a crawl to a walking speed. The crawling one would definitely lose. Turning back towards the girl screaming at me to pay attention to what she was yelling about now.

(???) - "HOW COULD!?!? YOU CUT HIS LEG OFF!!"

(Rain) - "SHUT IT, LADY! DAMN, ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME DIE! I AM KILLING A DAMN ZOMBIE FOR FUCKS SAKE! SHUT UP!"

(???) - "I DON'T CARE! JUST DIE FOR ALL I CARE!! YOU ATTACKED MY DAD FIRST!"

(Rain) - "Ugh. She doesn't want to listen to reason. I'd have to go kill around 25 more to get to level 10 if I don't find any level 3 or above zombies."

(???) - "YOU BETTER STOP NOW OR I WILL REPORT YOU TO THE POLICE!!!"

(Rain) - "I DARE YOU TO TRY ME!! THE MAGIC I USED TO RIP YOUR ZOMBIE DAD'S LEG OFF IS SOMETHING I BET EVEN THE MILITARY IS WILLING TO KILL FOR!!"

Losing my cool at the girl I started screaming back again at her since she was down the street near a house with a busted window evidently from this zombie breaking through when it came through to attack me.

(???) - "HOW CAN YOU BE SO MEAN!? HE'S JUST AN OLD MAN!"

(Rain) - "IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED IN THE APOCALYPSE LADY! IF YOU DON'T WANT ME TO KILL HIM THEN I DARE YOU TO COME HERE AND LET AND TAKE HIM AWAY! I SURE AS HELL BET HE IS WILLING TO TEAR YOUR FACE APART!"

(???) - "FINE, I WILL GO OVER THERE AND BRING HIM BACK!"

Then, this impulsive girl actually came over here and started to try to coax the zombie back to the house. Had it not been for me cutting off his damn leg I bet she would be dead at this point already. In the end, after 20 minutes of trying to lead the zombie back into her house and failing as it just kept trying to attack her with it's flailing left hand could barely even pull itself. Since it lost its right hand it couldn't even try to use that one. After watching her struggle for 30 minutes more I started to get hungry and impatient with her since the damned zombie only crawled not even 3 meters from its original spot while bleeding out causing the smell of the place to get more and more foul. Finally, she started breaking down and crying telling her zombie dad to go back and that everything would be alright. After watching her cry for 10 minutes I couldn't take it anymore. Right as I was about to kill I was interrupted again. This time by some other woman.

(???) - "REINA! GET BACK HERE NOW! STOP CHASING THAT ZOMBIE OF A FATHER OF YOURS! HE DIED ALREADY REINA!"

(Rain) - "DAMN IT! DOES EVERYONE JUST FEEL LIKE INTERRUPTING ME WHEN I AM ABOUT TO KILL THIS ZOMBIE!"

(Reina) - "BUT! MOM! HE'S RIGHT HERE AND THIS MAN ALREADY NEARLY KILLED HIM!"

(Reina's Mom) - "NO BUTS YOUNG LADY! GET BACK HERE NOW! LET HIM KILL HIM! WE CAN'T RISK YOUR FATHER KILLING US EITHER!

(Reina) - "MOM!?! HE'S YOUR HUSBAND DO YOU NOT CARE!?"

(Reina's Mom) - "I DO! HOWEVER, WE BOTH KNOW HE WOULD NOT WANT TO PUT YOU IN DANGER AS WELL!"

(Rain) - "Ugh. Can I just kill it already..."

(Reina) - "NO!"

(Reina's Mom) - "NO!?!? YOUNG LADY GET BACK HERE NOW!"

(Reina) - "I WASN'T TALKING TO YOU MOM! HE SAID HE WANTED TO KILL DAD!"

(Reina's Mom) - "THEN JUST LET HIM!"

(Rain) - "Yes! Even the wife agrees! See it's a risk to leave the zombie with you! Especially this one! It's already become stronger from the rest of the ones I killed and eating their bodies!"

(Reina) - "NO! I WON'T LET YOU!"

(Rain) - "... Then we do this the hard way!"

(Reina) - "WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING!?"

Leaving her at that I summoned two wind blades in my hand and threw both of them one towards the left and one towards the right. Then using magic I pushed them back towards the zombie's direction at a faster speed before she could react and let the wind blades pierce into the head of the zombie, making blood splash out and some of it got on Reina's clothes.

(???) - "Ding! Experience +32. Level Up! Congratulations! You are now level 10! Status Point +2. Skill Point +1. Next Skill Point at level 15. Please choose to allocate your staus two status points later. After doing so you will become an evolver and the body will go into to rest for 8 hours."

(Rain) - "Finally, now I can return. I'm fucking hungry and tired now. To much magic use. Ugh."

(Reina) - "AAHHH! DAD! NOOOOOOO!! WHY DID YOU KILL HIM!"

(Reina's Mom) - "HE DIED! NOW COME BACK HERE NOW YOUNG LADY!"

(Rain) - "MRS.MOTHER OF THIS GIRL! GET HER TO STOP COMPLAINING ALREADY! I STILL NEED TO GO BACK TO THE MILITARY BASE TO EAT!"

After saying that Reina's mother who was standing at the door rushed out and ran towards us seemingly excited.

(Reina's Mom) - "Can you take us with you to the military base!? I beg of you!"

(Rain) - "Argh. Stop screaming near so close to me please."

(Reina) - "MOM! WHAT ARE YOU DOING! WE ARE NOT GOING WITH THIS PERSON! HE KILLED DAD!"

(Rain) - "Argh, damn it! You shut it as well! You damn daddy complex of a little girl! I don't care about you being having your little daddy complex and pushed back my return home for so long and I even skipped my lunch for a damn hour just to let you screw around with a zombie on the ground for an hour! AN HOUR!"

(Reina) - "Wha- HOW DARE YOU! I DON'T HAVE DADDY COMPLEX!"

(Rain) - "Ahhhhhhhhh. Whatever. Mrs. Feel free to drag her back to your house and grab your things. I will go around clearing the area and seeing if I can find other survivors. If I do then we can all leave at once. Also, don't bring your car. The gate is as you can see heavily damaged. I doubt it can even move in enough to let a person pass by much less a car. I will meet here in 30 minutes with whoever I find."

(Reina) - "HEY! DON'T IGNORE ME!"

(Reina's Mom) - "Yes, yes, thank you very much. You're coming with me young lady to grab our things!"

(Reina) - "OW! MOM! STOP PULLING MY EARS!"

(Rain) - "She finally left. Guess I will check since there are still survivors around. Likely there aren't many more zombies left. Might as well check my status while I go around asking if there are any survivors if they want to come."

(Rain) - Level 10, Experience 28/1,000, Human, Pre-Evolver

Attributes - Strength 1.1, Speed 1.3, Stamina 1.0, Immunity 1.3, and Magic 1.80

Skills - Wind Magic (1/5), Analysis (max), Upgrade (max)

Points - 2 Status points and 1 Skill Point

After going around and screaming to see if anyone else was left in the community for 30 minutes if they are I said I was taking people to the military base. After 30 minutes of running and screaming to ask people and feeling tired from running low on stamina, I found another 50 people willing to leave with me. While another 35 was not willing to leave or they wanted to leave on their own for other places. After seeing so many people coming along I told them to wait at the gate while I went over the gate and got the ladder for them to cross on. After getting everyone over and feeding people what I had in my bag for those that had nothing. I then told got a few who knew how to hijack a car to follow me and went to the small community I lived at before and stole some cars from that community and we drove those and left. After driving for another 45 minutes feeling exhausted and hungry I got them to pull the cars into the front gate where they check in at and told them to follow their instructions before leaving them and heading to the side gate to check in. The guards were rather surprised that I didn't bring supplies today since I always had the previous days and one of the ones I had seen a few times asked me about it. I just told him I ended up fighting zombies and found survivors and got them out but the gate was broken so I couldn't really get much with these survivors following me. After that, I was allowed through and went back to my room to clean up and threw away my bloody clothes. Enjoying my two 10 minute shower times all in one go since I didn't use it this morning and after drying off I went and grabbed some snacks out of one of the cupboards ate it, lazed around for a while till it was night, and then went to sleep for the night.

Unknownst to me, however, was that the survivors who I brought in were all brought it without much problem. The only problem was the little daddy complex girl who when she told her story mentioned me being able to use wind magic like it wasn't a problem. This eventually got brought into the attention of Major General Grant as he was the current head of this military base. Who in turn once again put his sights on me. This time, however, he now knew some of my secrets after searching me last time. Along with this incident to raise leverage against me for a favor that I couldn't refuse at all. While Reina felt all smug about telling her story to the military until her mother who heard her bragging dragged her by the ear to their room yelling at her for being ungrateful to their savior.

Lying on my bed prepared to sleep I remembered about becoming an evolver. I decided to put my two status points into strength and speed. Right as I put it the last point into Speed I suddenly felt an excruciating pain burn throughout my whole body. It was as bad as someone getting bit by multiple bullet ants but continuously feeling that sharp pain ringing throughout your body at first. Then 10 minutes the pain mellowed out towards the pain you feel from holding something burning hot in your hand. Then after two hours the pain at that point became a pricking feel of pain throughout the whole body. Then when it was finally 8 hours from the status point being put into the Speed attribute that I finally passed out. At that time, however, it was already five in the morning. However, finally feeling peace from the pain ending I slept like a log until 12 at noon before finally waking up.
