Chapter 33 Fight or Flight (1)

Chapter 33 Fight or Flight (1)

"So bright...."

Hua Meili stared at the clear dark blue sky sleepily, her eyes almost dropping close if not because of someone blocking the light for her.

"My lady, if you sleep out here, you may catch a cold."

Du Hexi stood beside her blocking most of the light of the sun shielding her from its brightness which disturbs her.

"What are you worried about? I won't catch one."

Hua Meili drawled before closing her eyes again, this time she heard a sigh from her side, and a quilt was put on her.

She peaks at the person beside her.

"This servant won't disturb your nap anymore, my lady..."

Hua Meili heard him say before sleep took over her, but before she left for wonderland, she felt someone sit beside her.

"I'll be here until you wake up, my lady."

Days passed by so quickly that with a blink of an eye, it was already 2 months after the Apocalypse started.

The world had changed so much within these past 2 months.

The blue sky became even bluish, it was so beautiful but was a constant reminder of the change that the Earth took.

The weather and temperature took a hit, the temperature drop so much that it became even colder.

If not for her body evolving then she might have already frozen to death.

Ordinary humans these days must constantly check their body temperature lest they freeze to death because of the drop in temperature.

Evolve humans like her are really lucky because the change in temperature really did not affect them too much unlike ordinary humans who still remained ordinary and weak.

As she was thinking about the different changes that occurred over the span of 2 months, her phone vibrated inside her pocket.

Leisurely taking her phone out, she read the message on the screen.

"Wha?! AH!"

Falling down the branch that she used as a bed, Hua Meili looks at her screen again with wide-open eyes.

Message:

From: Unknown Number

My beloved meimei, this is your brother Jin. Sorry for not calling or texting you this past few weeks, your brother lost his phone when he was fighting with the Zombies and only got a new one a while ago. I know it's already been 2 months since we last saw each other but brother promises that I will come back home safe and sound so you must wait at home for me. Brother will come home soon. Love Jin.

After Hua Meili read the message from her 'brother', she wrote a reply and then sent it to her brother.

It's really been a while since their last conversation that she almost forgot that he even existed if not for the sudden text message she received from him.

Message:

To: Jin Gege

Dage, do not worry about your meimei, I am alright. I am looking forward to the day when you come back home safe and sound. Please take care of yourself and don't get injured or something. I pray that you would be safe and I will patiently be waiting for your return. I will be looking forward to the day that you would come back home.

Hua Meili faintly smiled as she looked forward to the day that she will be able to see and meet the original Hua Meili's brother, how does he look like?

Is he nice?

Is he good?

Will he be able to recognize that I am not the real Meili when he sees me?

She sighed and shook her head out of the clouds, she looked in front of her, as she saw the biggest Super Market in the whole city.

She is here today to steal or what we call gather supplies to add to her collection of food and necessities.

But there is just one problem with this perfect little fantasy of hers because right in front of her, the Super Market was enveloped in big and thick green vines.

On the top of the Super Market stood a tall tree. But it looked more like branches since it doesn't have any leaves.

*Click*

Hua Meili clicks her tongue.

Slowly she walked into the district, jumping up and down the vines, she tried to find her way toward the Super Market which was covered by the thick vines and trees making the district look more like a forest.

As she walks through the area, she noticed that there are no Mutants or any living creatures in sight at all except the greenery.

She wondered what happened to the Mutants but even so, she did not let her guard down despite knowing that there are no enemies in her surroundings.

Somehow, she felt that something was amiss but she could not point a finger at it so she could only keep on walking.

She kept her guard up until she was right in front of the door of the Super Market, still, nothing happened.

No Mutants or any enemy came pouncing on her which greatly confused her knowing that an enemy must be hiding within this place.

As a book wearer, she won't foolishly think that there is no enemy in this too peaceful place.

There is no such thing as a peaceful place within an Apocalypse world!

She'll be damned if she ever thought that there is one!

From all the gathered knowledge she had on many protagonist and antagonist experiences when it comes to surprise attacks, she knew better than not to believe that this place is truly a paradise on earth.

Than a paradise, she would rather believe that this is a death trap set by someone to trap their prey who foolishly believes that this is a safe place.

Just by seeing that there is not even a hint of Mutant in that place, she is sure that something much more horrible and powerful than any Mutant is hiding in that place.

All of these thoughts circled around her brain for a few seconds, it might look like she had been thinking for a long time but she really was just thinking for a few seconds as she reach out her hands to open the glass door of the Super Market.

When she was about to push the door open, her instincts that she developed when she was just an infant kicked in, and she quickly took a step back.

Bam!

Landing a few meters away from where she once stood, she looked back at the place where she once was.

The place that she was standing before fell apart and a huge hole took its place.

As if it wasn't enough, the doors also flew open and vines of different sizes came rushing out and tried to grab her but she was lucky and had already dodged away.

"F*ck! So this is why I keep on having a bad feeling about this place, it's really a dangerous place ah!"

Hua Meili turned green when it saw another bunch of vines trying to catch her which she dodge.

"This must be the reason why there are no Mutants in this area, this thing must have eaten it!"

Hua Meili cursed as she keep on dodging the oncoming vines.

"Sh*t!"

She cursed doing a back roll to avoid a sneaky vine that sneaked at her blind spot, just missing her face and a hairs breath away.

Hua Meili kept on running and also dodging at the same time away from those vines, it was coming from all directions that made it somehow hard to dodge.

She kept on dodging when she finally noticed something odd about its attack pattern, the vines were only coming from inside the Super Market and no vines were attacking her from outside despite having so many trees out there.

This made her thought that maybe the enemy hideout was inside the building and maybe it was hiding up above there, the tree!

"But how am I going to go up there?"

Hua Meili thought of another problem, as she dodges to the left and then roll back to avoid a vine.

"Right! How can I forget, I'm a wood ability user but err.... can I control such a huge plant monster though? We'll never know if we don't try right?"

After having her plan finalized, she immediately put it into action.

First, she used her ability and experimented on how many seconds can she control those vines to stop.

She experimented on a vine coming right at her in this second, it froze in midair for 10 seconds before attacking her again.

"10 seconds... that's so little but if I can freeze it for 10 seconds that is still a big advantage in the fight. Can't I freeze this g*dd*m* thing for a minute or two?! Is this thing stronger than I am?!"

Hua Meili grumbled as she dodge and dodge.

"Might as well try and utilize it, if I fail, I can just go inside my space and try to plan another way to defeat this thing."

Hua Meili quickly used her ability to stop the vines from striking her.

10 seconds

She froze the oncoming vines one by one and then she uses her fastest speed to scale the walls!
