Promise me

In the dimly lit corridor stood Chang and Saebyeok. Saebyeok wasn't expecting anyone to discover her true identity so soon.

It's been less than a day since she entered this body, and Chang already seems to have discovered her true identity.

Saebyeok shifted her gaze to her chest to see the marking, but there was nothing there.

"You can't see it in the darkness," Chang spoke up. "I only saw it when you stood under the bright sun."

Hearing Chang's words, Saebyeok now realized the reason why Chang was strangely glaring at her chest earlier.

She thought Chang fell for her beauty, but it appears that wasn't the case at all.

He only saw the marking on her chest.

"So what are you going to do to me now? Turn me over?" Saebyeok asked.

There was no need for lying again since she had been quiet the whole time.

If only she had her magical abilities, she would have slain Chang right here and escaped into the darkness.

But there was nothing she could do.

She was only Saebyeok.

"Based on the stories I've heard about you, I should be turning you over to the gods," Chang responded. "But I need you."

"Need me? For what?" Saebyeok asked with a confused expression.

"You see, just like Min-Ho said earlier, I can't cast spells because my body is weak and frail," Chang explained. "But since you are the goddess of Souls, I would like you to shift my soul into a much stronger body. A body capable of casting spells."

Saebyeok took her time to digest what Chang was saying. A mage willing to practice sorcery?

Sorcery was prohibited in the land, which is why the goddess of souls wasn't regarded as anything during her time.

That was one of the reasons why she went rogue and began to attack humans.

The gods claimed that sorcery was evil and it would only poison one's mind if you began to practice it.

Any mage who was caught practicing sorcery would lose all their Energy and get banished from the land.

"I understand you, Young Master. But I'm afraid I can't help," Saebyeok replied with a bow.

"But why?" Chang questioned. "If you fail to help, I will turn you in."

"I don't have the power to grant your wish, Young Master," Saebyeok responded. "Entering into this body, I lost my powers. Now I'm just like you. A mere mortal."

"Well, you can rekindle your powers, right? It's not gone forever," Chang uttered.

"The only way to rekindle my powers is if I find my original body, armor, and blade. Once I'm close to my sword and armor, my powers would be restored," Saebyeok responded.

Chang stood there in silence with his finger on his chin as he tried to figure out just where the goddess Min_Soo's body was kept.

"I can remember the royal family keeping your body as a trophy. But lately, Soul Monsters seemed to be attacking the palace because of the body, so they moved it somewhere else," Chang remarked.

"Where did they move it to?" Saebyeok asked, her eyes filled with hope.

"I don't know. They moved it out of the palace in secret. Many still think the body is in the palace, but it's not," Chang responded. "I'll try locating the body, while you remain by my side as my maid. We can't risk anyone finding out."

"What makes you think I won't kill you the moment I regain my powers, Young Master?" Saebyeok questioned.

"Because I never saw you as a bad person," Chang replied. "The same way you got frustrated because everyone deemed you as weak, that's the same way I'm feeling now."

"And if you choose to kill me once you regain your powers, then I'll die knowing I was a fool to think you weren't a bad person. But if you spare me... Let's just wait till then before I tell you what I'll do."

While the two were discussing, they began to hear footsteps approaching them from a distance.

The footsteps got closer until a group of mages could be seen heading towards them.

"Chang Feng?" Jun-Woo uttered after spotting Chang with his maid.

"Jun-Woo, what's the issue?" Chang asked.

"A soul monster was spotted within the city's walls, we are trying to track it down," Jun-Woo replied.

"Ah, you don't have to worry, I already killed it," Chang replied, walking away with Saebyeok by his side.

The morning sun rose up, signaling the beginning of a brand new day.

Saebyeok didn't have a good night's sleep last night after her discussion with Chang.

Throughout her immortal life, she hasn't seen anyone put so much faith in her just like the way Chang did.

Chang's words now made her feel like a real goddess that someone actually looks up to.

'I can't let this serve as a distraction to my plans. I would use Chang Feng to get what I want, then discard him when I regain my energy,' Saebyeok mused.

Inside a neatly arranged office with lots of beautiful designs, a man in his early thirties sat down quietly while reading a scroll.

The entrance door of the room swung open and Jun-Woo walked in.

"Master Kang," Jun-Woo greeted with a bow.

"What's the matter, Jun-Woo?" Master Kang inquired, noticing the worried expression on Jun-Woo's face.

"Last night, a Soul monster broke into the city," Jun-Woo replied. "But luckily,Chang Feng killed it before it could do any damage."

"A Soul monster? That means someone is still practicing the Transfiguration of Souls," Master Kang spoke with anger in his voice.

"The person performing this sorcery has the goddess of Souls Energy Zen in his possession. And if he misuses it, then that would be the end of humanity."
