Chapter 48: Mastery
“No!” Alyssa shouted. “NO!” as she clutched her head and jerked away from the creature with dozens of eyeballs gazing at her relentlessly. The creature was known as a Grim Beholder, a being both terrifying to look upon, but more so because of what it was capable of doing. It had the ability to make an individual relive their worst regrets, physical pain, and anything that caused distress; it magnified it a hundred times. Any attack by such creatures usually ended in madness or suicide; no being or creature alive was usually able to resist the effect of a Grim Beholder.
“You cannot defeat yourself, Sorceress Sharr; you cannot kill your own mind.” Saeraboth Drund hissed as he cradled his wounded side. Half of his face was so badly burnt that he appeared almost unrecognizable.
