Chapter 47: A Clash of Power

With a quiet thud, Alyssa landed on her feet. The darkness that enveloped her was impenetrable, the orbs of white light she created were barely able to pierce through any of it, and she felt incredibly cold watching her breath as she exhaled slowly. She could only hear the sounds of her soft breathing and footsteps as she tried in vain to listen for any indication of her father. Just then, she could feel a shift in the air around her followed by the faint sound of a rattle and some scratching.

As she attempted to peer through the dark shadows, she could see a massive shape approaching her. Alyssa slowly retreated as the shape grew in shape and stature the closer it got to her and soon, she could see two large, yellow eyes glaring down at her and as the shape emerged into the light it revealed itself to be a large, hooded black snake. It nearly resembled the same serpent that she had encountered while in the Book of Drund battling its guardian for possession of the book.
