Chapter 26: She Was Nothing More Than A Coward.

Everyone was stunned at that answer. Victoria was speechless. Yet that girl was calm. She stared at Victoria as if she was looking for something and that made Victoria uncomfortable. Everything about her, the way she talk, the look in her eyes, her answer, they all bothered her.

" W-What was your name again?!" Victoria asked as she stared at the girl.

" Alexa Carter."

" Well, now I will tell you the results. First, Meg, you passed. I like the dedication that you spoke of. I hope it wasn't just for the show. As long as you are willing, I will teach you everything I know. You have guts. Now, Eren. Your answer was good from the point of a brother. You will just have to know that a kind heart won't bring you justice but as a matter of fact, it was satisfying. Be gutsier and always think about how to deal with the worst situation. Lastly, Alexa Carter, I want to talk to you alone. Come into my office. Meg and Eren, you can start working. Meg will be under Jan and Eren will be under Hailey."

Saying that Victoria walked into her office. Others were all speechless and didn't know how to react. Her questions were tricky and long but her answer was way too quick and fast.

Alexa knocked on the door.

" Come in."

Alexa walked in. Victoria was sitting on her chair facing the backside. When she heard the voice of footsteps, she turned around.

" Sit down."

Alexa sat down as Victoria observed her.

" I want to know a more detailed answer to my question. Your answer wasn't exactly satisfying and I couldn't really understand it. Therefore, I can't say anything to you yet."

The serious little girl stared at her fearlessly as she spoke.

" Then I will get straight to the point. Leaving your family just to protect them is the most wrong answer. It's just not the solution. What is the meaning behind it if you leaving them is worse than them getting hurt. Actually, my mom is a psychologist so I am good at things that concern psychology. I can see that this question meant something to you and I can also see that my answer bothers you a lot. Honestly. I am shocked to see that the great lawyer Victoria is vulnerable when it comes to her personal matters. However, I don't have any right to comment on that but I will give you an answer from what I can see."

Alexa stopped as she stared at Victoria and then continued.

" Let's imagine this. There is a girl who left her house naively because she didn't want to hurt her family. She encountered many mishaps. All the while missing her family desperately. However, she felt more scared to go back than ever. She lost the courage and busied herself with her work. Yet, she always had guilt in her heart that she was scared to confront. many times she wanted to forget everything and just go back. Still, she never thought her decision was wrong. She stopped trusting people and however she may look, she was very desperate and lonely inside. But then, one day a stranger in a similar situation come to her and told her to her face that she was nothing more than a coward. She was just running away from reality. She was trying to abandon her past while forgetting that her past made her into who she is today. So she couldn't come to terms with that. She wanted to make her heavy heart a bit lighter."

After finishing, Alexa looked at Victoria in her eyes. She froze.

Victoria had no look in her eyes. They were neither cold nor emotional. They were just empty. She never saw eyes like that. She was right in her analysis. However, she only analyzed 30 per cent of Victoria's past. She didn't know what Victoria had to go through. She would never be able to understand it.

After a moment of silence, Victoria spoke.

" Great. You know what, I would train you personally. You will be under me. Your first task is to study and learn psychology more from your mother. If you can read at least 50 per cent of someone's mind, then it would be really helpful in this case. Your intelligence is admirable. However, we need something more than that. For now, do what you have been doing. I will arrange the work for you till then."

Alexa was intimidated and left quietly. She didn't know why but she couldn't open her mouth after seeing Victoria's eyes.

That day, nothing much happened. Victoria stayed at the office till the next day. When everyone arrived, she set a meeting.

" Hailey, please call everyone for a meeting in 10 minutes. I will assign the tasks today. Make sure that Jan doesn't leave yet. Also, buy coffee from Macdonald's or somewhere. It's on me."

Hailey nodded and told everyone about the meeting. Then she asked Eren.

" Eren, can you please go and buy coffee for everyone? Sorry, I would have done it myself if I didn't have to arrange the agenda of the meeting."

Eren blushed as Hailey was so sweet and beautiful when she asked him. He nodded instantly. Hailey gave her scooter keys to him as he went out. While everyone asked for hot coffee as it was cold, Victoria asked for cold coffee. He wondered how can she drink cold coffee in such weather.

After Eren come back, he helped Hailey arrange the things for the meeting. After everyone sat down, Hailey called Victoria. Victoria walked out in her suit pants and t-shirt. Everyone could see that she stayed overnight. Meg and Eren were shocked. Hailey and Jan were used to it. Yet, they still felt bad seeing their boss pushing herself so hard. Meanwhile, Alexa observed Victoria meaningfully and didn't let any moment escape from her eyes.
