Kamado Family Technique: Water Breathing!

<style>0</style>

"So, what's your Quirk?" I asked.

He smiled and laughed, "I don't have a 'Quirk.' That's not what I'm going to teach you."

Great Grandpa threw a sword over to me, I studied it. The sword was made of a material I've never seen before. It definitely wasn't iron or steel!

"That's a Nichirin Blade. It's only used for practice, so don't expect to do the things that I'll demonstrate." Great Grandpa told me.

He took a deep breath in, then back out while clenching his teeth. He pulled his sword out and leaped into the air! Grandpa slashed the sword down and somehow made a wheel of water with it! He landed back down on the ground.

"Woah! That was so cool! How'd you do that?" I wondered with great excitement.

He smiled once more, "Through a lot of hard work and practice, that's how! First things first, you need to learn how to breath."

"Huh? What? I already know how to breath! It's just in and out, it's not that hard." I laughed.

"No, no! Not regular breathing, think of it as a step above! I'll be training you just like how I was trained!" Great Grandfather explained.

I nodded my head, we got to training, I bet this was gonna be fun! The area around me turned into a huge, dark mountain. I looked around me, mist filled the area, did it somehow become nighttime here?

"Alright, first thing's first, you need to head up this mountain and back! If you use that Quirk of yours, I won't teach you what I know. Good luck!" He continued.

"W-Wait I-" I tried to ask him something.

He disappeared, living me alone on the base of this mountain. I was supposed to go all the way up, then back down here? Without using my Quirk? Alright... This was gonna be interesting. I hiked it up the mountain as quick as possible. I stopped in my tracks after a few minutes of running when I heard a 'Petoo" noise. I looked to my left and saw 4 swords coming straight towards my head!

"WHAT THE?!" I shouted.

I moved to the right as quickly as I could, the swords impaled the bark of the tree next to me, was he trying to kill me. I looked down and saw rope on the ground. I somersaulted over it and landed on my feet. Was this entire mountain filled with traps? How would I be able to even tell where these things are? The entire ground was covered in leaves, patches of tall grass, and sticks. I decided to assess my surroundings so I closed my eyes. I sniffed the air, I let the noises of the mountain consume me.

I shot open my eyes, "Got it!"

I ran up the mountain, dodging the traps that I sensed using my smell! It took some mental work to figure out, but I've got it down for the most part, I think? I didn't see neither did I smell this one certain trap, it sprung and hooked onto my legs.

"EEEYAAAAHH!!" I screamed.

It hung me upside down from my calves. I looked up at the branch above me, if it could hold my weight, it must be pretty sturdy! I swung myself back and forth, I eventually got myself up into the air! Aaaand then...

"Oh fuck, OH FUUUUUCK!!" I shouted.

I wrapped around the branch once more, I slightly swung back and forth, I narrowed my eyes and sighed. This was gonna take longer than what I thought... I leaned forward and grabbed the rope, I managed to get myself loose from its hold. I hit the ground hard, I stumbled up to my feet and kept running.

[5 Months Later...]

All this training was exhausting! He had me stand in a waterfall yesterday after pushing me off a cliff! Not to mention my breathing training I had to do! My Great Grandfather woke me up today and led me outside. There, in the middle of the training yard, was a giant boulder. He handed me a sword and gestured towards the boulder.

"Alright, I'll leave you to it. You've managed to learn a lot more than what I did when I first started!" He told me.

I tilted my head with confusion, "You'll leave me to what? There's nothing but this boulder here."

Great Grandfather simply walked away from me without saying a word.

"Wait! You didn't answer my question!" I yelled to him.

He walked into the house where the smell of herbal tea and sweet-smelling food resonated. I held the sword in front of me, was he asking me to cut this boulder? I held the blade above my head and swung it down to meet the boulder! It hit the boulder, but the impact shook me instead! I shook it off and looked back at the house. Grandpa told me that I could come back inside to go back home whenever I wanted. I faced the boulder once more, and I stepped back from it. I closed my eyes, I had to remember the Breathing Style techniques he taught me! I grit my teeth, then took deep breaths in and out. I twisted my right foot a bit before jumping into the air.

I held the blade above my head, "HIYAAAAAH!"

A rush of water followed my swing! I landed back down on the ground with the sword in front of me, breathing heavily. The boulder split in half! I heard clapping from behind me. How'd I do that?

"Amazing! You cut that boulder like bread!" Aunt Nezuko beamed.

I smiled back at them, "So, what was all this training for?"

"Well, I believe that those villains have done something to your Father. Disturbed his grave, I'm assuming." Great Grandfather guessed.

What? Was he talking about the League?

"The League? It can't be them. They've been locked up; I was there when Endeavor and Ms. Mirko went with the police." I reassured him.

He still looked unsure and worried, "I don't know. I've been having a bad feeling about the days ahead."

I felt uneasy after he said that, I looked down at the ground, then at the sword in my hand.

"We left you a gift on your bed once you get back home, Alyx." Aunt Nezuko told me.

"Alright, thank you! I won't take this training for granted!" I grinned.

I followed them inside of the house, where I closed my eyes, and opened them to see that I was standing in my room with the balcony door open. I looked at my bed and saw a Nichirin Blade next to a scabbard. The scabbard was made of Red Spruce wood, and was engraved with a dragon design. There were rings the dragon was going through, and various little clouds surrounding the dragon. The wood was painted over with red and silver paint. I grabbed the sword and held it up. The sword somehow created an ocean wave design, alongside changing to a deep metallic blue.

"This is some interesting stuff!" I said to myself.

The only problem was, where was I supposed to put the sword? I didn't have anything to put the scabbard on my hero costume.

"Alyx, what's that?" I heard Deku ask from my doorway.

I jumped as I turned around, "Geez!"

"S-Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." Deku apologized.

"It's fine. But if you were wondering what this is, it's a Nichirin Blade. My Great Grandpa and my Great Aunt gave this to me after we trained for about 5 months! It hasn't been 5 months here, has it?" I explained.

"No, it been about 4 hours." Deku informed me.

I nodded my head, "Ah, alright. I guess I'm still not used to the way time functions there."

"Were you talking about them?" He pointed outside towards my balcony.

I looked behind me and saw that they were waving at us before they disappeared.

I quickly looked back at Deku, "Y-You can see them too?! I thought Tokoyami was the only other person here that could see them!"

"Well, I guess I've seen a few ghosts myself!" Deku chuckled.

"Speaking of ghosts, I just wanted to ask you if you wanted to come downstairs. Kacchan picked out a scary movie for us to watch!" Deku asked.

"Sure, I'll be down in a minute!" I replied.

Deku left my room and I noticed a note was on my desk. The note explained what the color of my sword meant and instructions on how to keep practicing those breathing techniques and forms. On the bottom it was signed, "Stay safe, and keep going! Love, Your Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Kamado Tanjiro."

I smiled and chuckled, "He really wrote out all those 'Greats', huh? Good grief. He could've just said 10X!"

I put the note in my table drawer and looked back at the Nichirin Blade on my bed. I hope Grandpa's gut feeling was wrong, but I'm starting to feel the same way too. I was honestly extremely tired after all of that training. This Total Concentration Breathing stuff was actually kind of difficult. I decided to take the sword with me, it's more of a just in case kind of thing. I went downstairs and the floorboards creaked.

"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!" Deku screamed.

"Did you just cuss? Bro, that's awesome!" Kirishima laughed.

I turned the corner and waved, "It's just me, Deku!"

"W-Wait... But Midoriya is right here..." Kaminari shuddered.

"Dunce Face, I really should fucking knock you on the head." Bakugo grumbled.

Everyone let out a sigh of relief. I stepped out of the corner of the wall and went into the kitchen.

"Woah, are you carrying around a sword? What is this, Texas?" Kaminari commented as he looked at my sword.

I felt a look of despair come across my face, "Wh-Wha... What?"

"Texas? I thought that place only had saloons and stuff!" Kirishima added.

"Good grief... Let's just watch the movie, please?" I sighed.

We all gathered together and continued the movie; it wasn't as scary as I thought. I was trying not to laugh the whole time because of Deku's random screaming and the looks on Bakugo's face every time a jumpscare happened! By the end of the movie, Tokoyami and I had to walk with everyone to their rooms. The usual "I'm not scared!" would be said, then something would make a slight noise and they'd freak out. Bakugo surprisingly was one of those people, he nearly set the bathroom ablaze! I finally got to my room and I got ready for bed. I heard my closet door creek open, I turned around to face it.

"If you're gonna kill me, I'm taking you with me." I shouted towards the closet.

My closet door swung open, and all that came out of it was a butterfly? Really? It landed on my shoulder, I noticed that it was white and purple. It was a pretty butterfly; the butterfly flew behind me. I went back to getting ready for bed, then I heard a voice.

"Moshi Mosh!" I heard someone call out from behind me.

I turned around, and standing where the butterfly should've been, was a woman! She was rather short, her hair was purple on the ends, and her eyes were completely purple as well!

"Who are you? Are you like Grandpa?" I asked her.

She simply smiled and tilted her head a bit, then she smacked me in the back of the head.

"Address your elders properly, please." She smiled.

I rubbed the back of my head, "S-Sorry! So, I'm assuming you know my Great Grandpa?"

"Yes, I do. In fact, I actually fought alongside him at one point." She agreed

"Woah, really?" I wondered.

She smiled at me, "You definitely aren't like your Father, Alyx. That's for sure, he wasn't as interested in this as you are."

Woah, she knew my Dad? I wonder how many other people like her knew him?

"If I may ask, how do you know my Father and who are you?" I asked politely.

"Such a polite young man, aren't you? My name is Kochō Shinobu. We've known your Father ever since he first started developing what you call a 'Quirk'. We tried to mentor him, but he refused. It would've helped him in the long run, which is why we were so hesitant to reach out to you, Alyx. But from what I can tell, you definitely aren't like your Father. I see that you've taken your Great Grandfather's training!" Shinobu explained.

"I've got a few questions, what did you mean by 'what you call a 'Quirk'?" I asked her.

She sat down on my bed; her kimono was brightly lit by the moonlight. I noticed how much her kimono looked like that butterfly clip in her hair.

"Those abilities you and your friends have were derived from a group of surviving demons, good ones, that is. Albeit I would've had them all slaughtered if their intentions weren't pure. They started preparations for the future, just in case evil ran rampant through the world again. Those fortunate enough found themselves with new Blood Demon Arts, or 'Quirks' as you all know them as." Shinobu answered.

I nodded my head to show that I understood, "Interesting, so that's why we all don't have the same Quirks? I think I understand now. How am I related to Gr- I mean my Great Grandpa?"

"Well, you come from a long line of Kamados. One of which, happened to wed one of those demons who possessed abilities like your Father, siblings, and yourself." She explained.

"So, there are more of you watching over me? How many? Will I meet them?" I questioned her.

"Yes, of course! Come with me!" She laughed.

Shinobu grabbed my hand, and in a flash, we were in front of some sort of some courtyard. A few feet in front of us, there were 8 other people, sitting in a prayer position.

"These are the others watching you, 'Hashira', was what we were called." Shinobu told me.

We walked forward and the others stood up and turned around.

"Ah! Alyx, a pleasure to finally meet you! I'm Rengoku Kyōjurō!" Rengoku introduced himself to me.

They all introduced themselves to me except for one person who was eyeing me. His eyes were a blue as an ocean, it looked like he'd been through a lot.

"This is Tomioka Giyu, the Water Hashira, he doesn't talk much." Shinobu looked up from me and smiled at Giyu.

Giyu glared at her then turned away. I couldn't help but feel an odd calm standing next to Giyu, although he was a bit intimidating. He kind of reminded me of Tomikoa!

"Ooo, what kind of blade do you have?" Mitsuri wondered.

I pulled out my Nichirin Blade and displayed it to them.

"Blue stands for Water Breathing. That Tanjiro kid HAS taught you, eh?" Sanemi chuckled.

I noticed that Giyu was intently looking at me.

"Water Breathing?" Giyu finally spoke.

I nodded my head, "Yes. Tanjiro taught me, I learned it in 5 months."

"5 months?" Muichiro quietly restated.

"Yes, I guess the Breathing technique comes naturally? My Quirk kind of works the same way as your Breathing techniques, except now I don't have to keep steady breaths in order to use it." I assumed.

"Well, go on, prove it." Tengen demanded.

Everyone stood back and there in front of me was the small bamboo forest. I closed my eyes, clenched my teeth, and took deep breaths in and out.

"First Form, Water Surface Slash!" I exclaimed.

I zoomed through the bamboo forest, slicing all of the bamboo. I stopped on the other side of the courtyard. I put my sword back into my scabbard and turned to face the others. The top halves of the bamboo slid and fell to the ground. I smiled and the Hashira looked impressed!

"Huh, what do you know!" Rengoku beamed.

I walked back to them, all while reconstructing the forest with my Quirk.

"I think I'm ready to go home now, Ms. Shinobu." I told her.

She nodded and grabbed my hand, "Thank you everyone! It was a pleasure to meet you all!"

I woke up in my bed, it was 4 in the morning. I looked over and noticed that there were different symbols engraved on my sword now. I also must've forgotten to put it back in my closet since it was lying on my floor! I picked it back up and examined it, the symbols represented the 9 Hashira that I met. I felt warm and comfy, I put it back into its scabbard and placed it back into my closet. It was honestly really cool learning more about my family's history! I wonder who my other grandparents and relatives were? I heard a knock on my door, I got up and opened it.

"D-Darling, c-can I sleep with you tonight?" Momo asked.

"Sure, did that movie scare you too?" I responded.

"A little, did it scare you?" Momo told me.

I shook my head, "No, not really. It was a little predictable at times."

We climbed into my bed and I tried to fall asleep, but every creak or small noise, Momo would move closer to me. There was a loud bam coming from my closet which caused Momo to sit straight up. She held onto my arm and shivered.

"W-What was that? Could you check it out, please?" Momo fretted.

"It's alright, stay here, I'll check it out." I reassured her.

I got up and walked over to my closet. I opened it and saw that my sword fell from the shelf. I picked it up and took it to my desk.

"It was just my sword, see? Nothing to worry about." I smiled.

I sat it down on my desk and returned to my bed. Momo cuddled up next to me.

"Where'd you get the sword?" Momo wondered.

"It's a bit of a long story." I chuckled.
