A Former Friend

After learning about One For All, I understood that it really was All Might's Quirk. For someone like him to be born Quirkless, and then be given a gift from the number one hero in Japan, I'd be extremely grateful. During my walk home, I tried to think about everything that happened before we left for Japan. It was no good, all I remembered was the things I said to my parents and whoever else was in my memory.

"Hey, uh, Leonidus-kun? Where are you going?" Tsuyu questioned.

Wait, wasn't I walking home? This wasn't the way there, was it?

"Oh, Tsuyu-san, I'm heading home. Why?" I asked her.

She looked at me confused, almost as if I was speaking gibberish.

"Uhm, don't you normally walk all the way that way?" Tsuyu wondered.

She pointed down to another street that was a few blocks away. She was right, what was I doing here? How did I get here? I felt a strong heat across from us, and it didn't feel friendly.

"Tsuyu-san, we need to go, now!" I shouted.

Just before I could move, I could feel something coming. Was it an attack? An actual person? It felt like it was coming at us from 40 different directions! Tsuyu and I took cover behind a wall and kept quiet. Was it those guys from the U.S.J.? No, they wouldn't be that dumb to attack out in the open like this, right? Whatever it was, it was moving fast, I'm not even sure if I could outrun it with my Base Mode, let alone try to see what it was. Then, suddenly, I heard a voice call out to us.

"I know you're here, Alyx, come on out." He called out.

Who was this, how'd he know who I was?

"Stay here, I've got a bad feeling about this." I told Tsuyu.

This guy was fast, I couldn't risk Tsuyu getting hurt. I stepped out from behind the wall and took a good look at who was standing a few feet away from me. He had Grey hair, styled like Bakugo's, tall, maybe 6'2''? Dark green eyes and looked to be about 18-21. He almost looked like... Kariya?!

"What do you want? I'm just trying to get home-" I tried to say.

"From the Sports Festival, right?" The guy interrupted me.

He must've watched the Sports Festival in order to have known who I was. That was a relief, I let out a sigh and looked at him.

"Oh, you watched the Sports Festival! Sorry for being a little tense, I was just about to ask you how you knew who I-" I stopped.

Before I could say anything else, like a blur, he was in front of me and he punched me in the stomach. I've never felt that much pain rush through my body like that before, what is this guy? He looks like Kariya, but there's no way he'd act like this!

"Listen, Alyx...I know a lot more about you than what you think." He looked at me and smiled.

I regain my senses and grabbed his hand, I punched him in the face, and he went flying.

"T-Tsuyu-san! G-Go...! Get help!" I yelled to her.

Tsuyu ran towards U.A. as I stood off with this guy.

"Not too bad, if I remember correctly, you could hit a lot harder than that!" He rushed towards me without even touching the ground!

What did he mean by "you could hit a lot harder than that"? Did he know who I was before the Sports Festival? Or did he see everything that I did against Deku? I side stepped one of his punches and I jumped away from him. What do I even do here? If I remember correctly, I can't act out with my Quirk until I get this Provisional License. If that's the case, then how am I supposed to defend myself against someone like him?!

"Screw it... Overdrive: Base Mode!" I yelled.

I couldn't let this guy toss me around like some sort of chew toy! If I make sure the surrounding area doesn't get destroyed, I should be okay to defend myself!

"Bring it on, weirdo!" I taunted.

He activated his Quirk and... The Heat Energy around him...It felt like mine! Is his Quirk similar to mine then?

"What do you want from me?!" I demanded as I was countering his punches and kicks.

He laughed and swept my legs out from underneath me and punched me into the ground.

"What do I want?" He asked, "I want you to feel my pain!"

He went into the air, and I saw a glimmer of golden light come from his hands. Was he planning some sort of energy blast?! That's gonna kill me if I let that hit me! I put my left hand up as he fired the blast, and I closed my eyes. I opened them and saw that I made a barrier out of my Quirk? Or was it a move like his?

"Oh? You're trying to defend yourself? A little late for that, isn't it?" He cackled.

It felt like I was holding up that barrier forever, until I heard Mr. Aizawa's voice.

"Hey! What in the hell do you think you're doing?!" Mr. Aizawa yelled.

"Oh, Eraser Head! Nice seeing you here! How unfortunate, I would've had time to play with you as well!" He smirked.

Before Mr. Aizawa could do anything, the guy was gone in a flash.

"Leonidus, who was that?" Mr. Aizawa asked.

I sat up and slowly stood back up.

"I... I-I'm not sure. Sorry, Mr. Aizawa. He knew who I was somehow, I'm guessing the Sports Festival, but if he knew who you were, then he might know a lot more about me. Which honestly, isn't good." I answered.

"And I didn't know what to do. I tried to not use my Quirk, but if I didn't, he would've killed me!" I continued.

He looked at me, and I could tell that he understood, so I looked away from him as the police arrived. Luckily, nobody was hurt, and after I was interviewed by the police, I went home. My parents asked me about everything that happened, and again, I ended up on the news. I told everyone everything, which was a bit of a hassle having to repeat everything to everyone.

The next day at U.A. I couldn't stop thinking about that guy. It was like he left an imprint in my brain. Everything about him felt so, familiar... I couldn't ask Annie anything about him, since she was always on patrol around the city. I couldn't really concentrate on anything at all today, how could I? He almost looked like my brother Kariya, those eyes, that face... During my walk home, I felt someone grab my shoulder, I turned around and it was... Todoroki?

"What happened last night?" Todoroki questioned.

I explained to him that some guy attacked Tsuyu and I. He had a similar Quirk to me, and he somehow knew Mr. Aizawa.

"From the way you described him, that sounds like the villain "Sudden Death."' He told me.

"Sudden Death? That's his name?" I asked.

"That's what he's called himself. I'm surprised you survived his attack. He's been gaining notoriety for a while now." Todoroki confirmed.

I guess I was surprised too. There was no way that he was Kariya...

I looked away from Todoroki, "Yeah, I really didn't know what to do against him."

"Well, if you'd like, you can come over for dinner at my house. Soba usually makes me feel better about things." Todoroki offered.

"I guess I can. And by the way," I agreed, "Do you mind if I call you 'Shoto'? I'm not really used to calling people by their last names."

He nodded his head.

[15 Minutes Later...]

Shoto's house was pretty large, definitely larger than mine, that's for sure! We entered his house and were greeted by his sister.

"Shoto! Who's this you've brought along with you?" She asked.

"This is Leonidus-kun," Shoto said, "He's one of my classmates."

His sister stuck her hand out, "Hiya! I'm Fuyumi! Nice to meet you!"

I shook her hand and smiled.

"It's nice to meet you too, Fuyumi-san!" I replied.

"I've already got dinner started, Dad won't be home for another few hours or so. I'll let you guys know when it's ready!" She told us.

Shoto's house definitely wasn't like mine, it looked a lot more authentic, maybe? If that's the right word for it. We sat down on these pillows in Shoto's room. They were really comfy!

"So, that Sudden Death guy, do you know anything about him?" I questioned.

Shoto shook his head, "No, all I know his that he just showed up one day here in Japan. Sometime late last year, I believe."

I crossed my arms and sat there in thought, he looked so familiar. Out of all the things, why couldn't I remember why he was familiar?

"Hey, I've got a question for you. It's been on my mind for a while now." I looked to the side and sat there for a bit.

I looked back at him, "Is this what he looks like?"

I pulled my phone out and showed him the picture of me and Kariya.

Shoto studied the photo, "Hmm... Maybe. This picture looks old, so I'm not entirely sure."

I put my phone back in my pocket, maybe it was just a weird coincidence? Fuyumi came into the room.

"Dinner's ready!" She exclaimed.

She was carrying 3 bowls of Soba all at once! Wouldn't that burn? She set a bowl down in front of me and then Shoto, then she sat down with us.

"So, what were you guys talking about?" Fuyumi asked us.

"We were... Talking about... Subben Deaf." I explained while I was eating.

Shoto nodded in agreement.

"I heard about that. You're pretty lucky, you know? Sudden Death usually doesn't let anyone escape alive." Fuyumi noted.

I guess that's why he's called "Sudden Death" then. After I finished my dinner, I thanked Shoto and Fuyumi for having me over. That at least relieved some of the stress I was feeling.
