Chapter 6

The doors to the convenience store were tightly shut in the dim lit store, ironically the store was open. It was dark out and I couldn't make out anything, much less a car passing by.

Getting late night customers was always a thing that varied depending on the day of the week so I usually found myself completing homework or catching up on difficult classes like math.

When someone did walk in. I was always alarmed, hoping the fake cctv sign behind me was convincing as I smiled at the buyer, eying them for any abnormalities.

Thankfully, I didn't get into much eventful accidents during my stay. However, a loud drunk or, god forbid, a group of people drunk out of their minds was about eventful enough.

The door gave a familiar tune as it squeaked open.

I expected a drunk or a person dodgy looking enough to switch my flight or fight mode, but instead I stared at a familiar blonde boy followed by George.

I rubbed my eyes, making sure I wasn't hallucinating.

They didn't seem as surprised as they approached the counter I was behind.

"W-what are 'you' guys doing here?" My voice trembled in shock.

"Could say the same about you Hamper. Don't you ever sleep or do you just work when your not in school?" George sneered.

Right... I shouldn't be here as much as they shouldn't.

"Well did you guys just go on a date and end up here or..." I swallowed a rock of spit "did you"-.

"I found out that you worked here so I decided it would be best to meet here since your almost never free" Kevin smiled at me as he spoke, as if he hadn't said something extremely scary just now.

I didn't ask how he found out for my own sanity.

"Ok. But, why am I involved? You guys don't really need me for this do you?" I said, hoping they'd get a hint and leave before I got so involved I couldn't leave.

"No that would be bad for the plan." Kevin stated as if it was common knowledge.

I furrowed my brows and waited for a further explanation.

"What the jock means to say is: you add a nice balance to us too since your so..." George glanced at Kevin asking him to take over but I already understood. Fair enough, I guess.

"I get it. If it was just you too it would seem shady, but with me it just seems like a odd bunch of people with a common interest" it wasn't the best explanation, but it was closer to what they were going for so I got a nod from them both. "But if I get involved legally it's on you guys."

Kevin smiled at that. It wasn't that forced fake one, but a small genuine one. George also chuckled slightly.

"If we get involved legally it would be because I killed the guy", George had a strange glint in his eye which made whatever positive emotions I had for him go down the drain.

My now pale face that held a scared expression stared at him.

"Don't kill him under any circumstances..." I muttered turning George's head.

His expression full of shock which quickly morphed into anger stared at me.

"Do you actually think I would kill him?" He asked incredulously.

I stared back in silence. He knew already. There's no way he didn't know.

I once again glanced at his bracelet and then, out of some hidden courage, I nodded.

"Yes I do." I've never regretted my words so fast.

George came up in my face banging the counter below me with his right fist and grabbing my collar with his other.

"Say that again! I dare you bitch!" He roared at me.

Kevin somehow pulled him off me.

"Calm down George! That's another reason why we need Elliot here" Kevin's words turned both of our heads. George calmed down slightly although still red in the face.

"What?" He asked, annoyed.

"She sees through people somehow" my back stiffened at his words. "She knows things others don't, though, I'm not sure how" he mused, turning to me.

"Right." George's jaw clenched.

I stared at the two sets of glaring eyes, they demanded answers.

"I-I"- the store door clanged open and Jon walked in to my relief. "My shift is over!" I shouted at them as if they were difficult customers asking for the manager.

Jon eyed the boys as he passed by me, gesturing for me to leave with his hand.

I smiled and moved to the door with the boys following me close by.
