POV: MC
After I told Tina that I would help her with improving her deck she was ecstatic. It took me around half an hour to calm her down enough to get started. Tina is now sitting across from me giving me a super serious expression that did not at all match her overexcitable personality.
I gave a quick shake of my head to clear my intrusive thoughts before getting my mind back to the task at hand. After giving her full deck a quick once over. I began to systematically gather up almost all of the normal monsters in her deck and set them aside. Looking at her confused expression I let a small smile appear on my face before explaining.
"I can see you're confused about why I singled out those cards from your deck? Let me explain. While some of these cards have pretty decent attack or defense points. That is all they really have going for them. Not to say that they aren't useful with the right cards as support. It's just generally better for a deck like this…"
I pause to pick up Blue Eyes Toon Dragon and Relinquished before continuing on with my explanation.
"To either focus on getting your stronger Toon monsters on the field or getting Relinquished then Thousand Eyes Restrict out on the field."
Seeing Tina nodding her head in understanding I continue with my lesson.
"Now there is more than one way to do that than tribute summoning or for Relinquished, the use of Black Illusion Ritual."
Noticing Tina's skeptical expression when I mentioned the part about Relinquished I gave a wry smile before answering her unspoken question.
"I know that it seems hard to believe, but hear me out. Imagine the following scenario. What would happen if you had Relinquished in the graveyard and you were to say use a spell card like Monster Reborn?"
Seeing the expression of sudden realization on Tina's face made me grin from ear to ear before continuing.
"That's right it would be directly brought to the field. Plus, if you haven't summoned that turn you can do so still. See, there's more than one way to get a card on the field. If you have the right cards, anything is possible."
Looking at the starry eyes full of admiration on Tina sitting before me. I let a wry smile appear on my face as I think that this is going to take awhile. I ended up spending nearly the entire day teaching Tina about all the different ways to bring out different cards to the field. From tricks like using cards like Graceful Charity to send two cards from your hand to the graveyard. Only to use in combo plays like cards like Monster Reborn or another similar card that can special summon cards to the field from the graveyard.
I also began introducing her to Duel various scenarios for who to solve. At first, she had a bit of trouble. However, after every scenario I would bring up at least two or more ways for her to solve each one. Whether she figured out a solution or not.
When it began nearing the time for us to go to the Obelisk Blue welcome dinner. I was pleased to see Tina had been able to find at least one answer for the last ten duel scenarios. Glancing at the notebook she had grabbed in the middle of our impromptu duel study session I gave a quick chuckle as I recalled Tina fiercely writing down all the different plays I mentioned.
I'm kinda worried about the level of competency of the rest of the on duelists on this island if special summoning through the graveyard via card effects is something impressive. I shrug an indifference not really caring either way. Grabbing my new Obelisk blue jacket, duel disk and deck box. I make my way to the welcome dinner.
Hours later I'm lying on my bed groaning in pain due to the food coma, I'm suffering now that I've overeaten. I couldn't help myself. The food was so good!
With immense difficulty I managed to get up off my bed and into my pajamas. After leaving the bathroom after having a nice shower I heard the gruff voice of my Exodia spirit call out to me.
"Master, I don't see the point in helping Miss Tina? Isn't she one of your future opponents in this Academy?"
I blink in surprise at the sudden question before realizing that I never actually told Exodia my thoughts about training Tina for the conflict with the coming shadow riders. I then spend the rest of half hour before going to bed explaining the major points of the coming conflict. After I was done explaining Exodia was more than agreeable to helping out both Tina and her duel spirit.
After changing into my sky blue pajamas. I climbed myself into bed only to spend the next 15 minutes trying to get comfortable. It took me way too long but I Managed to finally drift off peacefully into dreamland.
