7. A new bestie

Scarlet had had a very chaotic year before meeting silver who was 4 years older than Daniel.

She had ran away from that mans clutches and took shelter in a neighbouring country while she regained her powers.

The poison Frederick's servant was feeding her wasn't a dangerous one to begin with, rather after interrogating him that night, he reveals his identity as a spy for the Almino kingdom.

He explained how she was the strongest shield protecting king Fredrick, so they wanted to get her out of the picture without harming her.

The poison was just going to weaken her powers.

"They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend, well...It seems like I got myself a new bestie."

Scarlet said smiling calmly.

The spy was terrified and confused, no matter how much the drug had affected her, she was still strong enough to take his head in a second.

Scarlet was already used to seeing such expressions.

"So you were aiming for my powers...Is there an antidote?"

"ye...yes... bu...but only the king has it."

"I see..."

with a slight gesture of her hand, he was thrown to the other side, hitting the wall. He growled as some of the crumbs from the wall fell on his head.

The sound of Scarlet's high heels echoed in the empty hall.

She walked towards him with her signature murderous aura.

 He tried to backed off, trying to scape but the walls prevented him from moving any further. He was completely cornered.

"Now...What to do with a little rat..."

Her eyes were shining in amusement, she hadn't felt this much excitement in a while...to be more specific she hadn't felt anything since the day she found out about her pregnancy.

After all the stress and her body movements could've hurt the baby.

But she had to keep her cool...She threw a bag of gold coins in front of him:

"Tell your master that I can help him ruin Fredrick if he helps me hide and recover in his country. Bring back the answer by midnight if you don't have a death wish, my eyes will be watching you.

The cost doesn't matter. Use the fastest teleporter if you have to."

Scarlet made way for him to pass but the poor guy was too scared to move.

Agitated, Scarlet almost yelled:

"Why are you still looking at me? Get the hell out of here!"

The man rushed out leaving behind his hat that fell on the floor earlier and returned way earlier than midnight with a letter from the king, ensuring her and Daniel's safety.

Daniel...she had almost forgotten him.

His late awakening only meant he had her blood and will eventually get just as powerful as her when he reaches his teen years. Would Fredrick use him as he did to me...? No, he doesn't know about our family's magic history.

' A useless pawn'

'He will probably get rid of Daniel before his awakening. He wouldn't kill his own child now would he? Perhaps I heard wrong...whatever that's going to happen to him is none of my concern...But I guess I have enough time to say my last goodbye.'

Scarlet visited the little prince's chamber for the very first and last time and dismissed the nannies.

The room was too normal and boring for a prince, but then again no one in this castle really cared about his existence. Specially Scarlet.

The window was open and a soft breeze was dancing with the sky blue satin curtains.

The night sky was full of stars that were shining exceptionally brighter tonight.

Scarlet closed her eyes and took a deep breath, enjoying the rhythmic silence that only contained the sound of the curtains slowly moving in and out of the room with each breeze.

She stood a few steps away from Daniel's cradle, afraid to wake him up.

But her dark aura reached him faster than she thought. maintaining her powers in a normal state had become more and more difficult.

She closed her eyes awaiting him to cry out loud as he suddenly opened his eyes.

He stared at her for a good few second before suddenly laughing.

"what the...what the hell are you laughing at?!"

Scarlet had never been more confused in her life. She didn't have the slightest clue on what she was supposed to do when he's being weird like this. She wasn't even sure if its a normal infant thing or just her psycho gens getting to her son.

'He...is laughing...it means he's happy right?'

"I guess its better than you crying nonstop... But why would you be happy to see me? I on the other hand am certainly not happy to see you..."

He went silent for awhile as if he wanted to focus on her sweet voice. This time he reached out his arm to her with a cute smile that would melt the icy heart of any villain or villainess .

Scarlet had never truly felt like she was a cruel monster until that very night... Because all she could see were Fredrick's deep blue eyes, smiling at that, she wanted nothing more but to carve them out.

She backed away from his cradle in panic, terrified of what she might do to her own child.

Just then her heels got stuck to her long laced black dress. She fell down, and so did a single tear from her jowl like eyes.

She had never cried even once after painting that golden palace walls completely red.

Scarlet was running out of time, she could hear Fredrick ordering to capture and kill the queen and the prince on spot. Stating that they have been demonised and cursed by the gods.

'Don't make me laugh...'

No matter how much Scarlet hated those cursed eyes, she couldn't let a child die because of her foolishness.

"Guess you're my burden to bear from now on..."

She held him in her arms nervously...

"Please don't cry....please don't cry..."

She then started to chant the teleportation spell the king had given her in the letter.

The guards were trying to break the room and she thanked her few minutes past self for making sure the door is locked.

A golden light spread in the room, forming a magic circle under her feet with her standing in the middle.

Just as the door was breaking down the magic circle transported them to the Almino kingdom.
