Set Sights

Everything suddenly went still.

"Young miss, why would you be looking for him, of all people?"

"He left us a note." I could see Lily and Roxie in a store to my left looking at a wedding dress. This particular dress was very elegant. It was a  mermaid cut with pleats down the sides and rose covered shoulder straps. It was a velvety silver which was incredibly beautiful.

"Oh, right this way, my lady."

"Rose, shouldn't we get Lily and Roxie?"

"No, best not to worry them. Roxie wouldn't care anyway."

"Alright. Follow that specter then."

The specter led us through the lively streets of the ghost town. People watched as we passed by, some whispering, others giggling some pointing to my brother, but most of their eyes were on me. Soon, Roxie and Lily came running after us. Once a tall manor was in sight, the specter stopped.

"Is that her then? The one that will save us from him?"

"Let's hope so, lest she becomes one of us. Can you see her eyes?"

"Yes, deep Jade, just like the witch said they would be."

"And what about the boy?"

"They're twins, of course they're eyes are the same. Have you gone daft?"

I recognized some of the people in town. They were all people who had reportedly either ran away or that had been kidnapped. I honestly started to wonder if we're next.

"Is that it? Is that where he lives?"

"No, this is where you'll be staying."

None of us made a sound. I wanted to scream and to cry out, but I couldn't. I could tell that he didn't like it either.

"You'd best run while you still can. Once inside, you're not going to be able to leave. Ever. So it's in your best interest to run."

It was a warning. He was warning us about the building.

"You don't have to tell me twice!" Roxie turned on her heels, and stopped "Wait, no. I'm not leaving my niece. Or my family."

"What has gotten into you Roxie?"

"Or are you even Roxie?"

"I'll still leave you." While her tone was threatening, she was still smiling. "And yes, it is me. I just realized that you aren't going to give up and neither is Rosie and I don't want to go home alone, I'll get lost."

"Yup, it's her alright."

"I'm glad you're gonna stick with us, Roxie."
