Upgrading

The skeleton looked into the man's eyes and the man looked back. He finally saw what lay under the cloak and it was horror. It was enough to make him lose his grip leaving the frying pan to fall to the floor with an ear-piercing sound. This was the signal for the woman to make a move. She understood that her stupid prideful husband had wasted all her effort. She had hoped to resolve the matter peacefully since she could sense that the intruder was very powerful. She jumped over the table and kicked towards the skeleton. She wanted to pulverize the head with a single kick. The skeleton did not understand their decision but it did not care enough to analyze what was happening. All it knew was that it needed to kill the humans. They had served their purpose and given it all the information they had. It was now time to move on. It stood up before the kick reached it. The stunned man did not do anything to help the wife. The skeleton punched towards him and used its left hand to grab the kick.

Pu, the skeleton punched straight through the man and grabbed the leg by the ankle. It did not give the woman time to react to the situation. It grabbed the leg with all its power and then swung the woman like a sack of potatoes. It threw her into the opposite wall where her head hit the hard wall first. Her head exploded like a watermelon sending brain juices splashing in all directions.

The skeleton was not done. It shook its hand that was embedded in the man. The force applied to the hand tore the man's body apart. His eyes were still wide open. Fear was written all over his face. The skeleton moved towards the man and touched both pieces of his body. It then used its skill (Decomposition) to make the corpse rapidly decay. The body turned into dust.

The skeleton pulled out its sinister-looking axe and looked at the writing on it.

[Corpse Qi: One and a half units .]

The skeleton was not happy with this number. It had already gotten one unit of Corpse Qi from killing the guard. This meant that the man it had just killed had provided just half a unit of Corpse Qi.

The skeleton suspected that the Corpse Qi it could get from a human was proportional to its strength when they were still alive.

It had hoped that it was wrong but this just confirmed this fact.

The skeleton stood up and walked towards the dead woman.

Even though these two people were weak, they would still provide some Corpse Qi no matter how little. It grabbed the woman and used its skill again. When it was done, it stood still for a minute. Soon, the blood that was all over the house began moving in its direction. The blood climbed onto its bones and was absorbed leaving no evidence of the murders.

The skeleton did not yet know the reason it absorbed the blood but it felt good whenever it did.

The skeleton could sense one more life force in the house. This was due to its Life Sense skill.

The skeleton looked toward the stairs leading upstairs and there it saw a young girl. She was frozen with fear. The skeleton could tell that her mind had been fractured. She did not move even a single muscle. She did not blink and when the skeleton looked closely, the girl was no longer breathing. If this were to go on, she would die.

The skeleton finally realized how brittle humans were. Seeing a few humans die was enough to send them into an extreme state of fear that could even lead to death. The skeleton did not have a concept of father and mother. To the skeleton, these were just human words. It had no connection to them and for this reason, it did not understand the girl's current state.

The skeleton moved towards the girl. It slowly walked up the stairs and when it reached the scared human, it bent down and tapped the girl's head. It was a gentle tap that knocked out the girl.

The skeleton did not know the reason as to why it had spared the girl. It felt that killing her was not something it wanted.

The skeleton carried the girl and took her back to her bedroom upstairs. It placed the girl in her bed and covered her properly before going back downstairs. There, it sat back on its chair and began examining its axe.

Nothing new had appeared on the axe apart from a slight increase in Corpse Qi.

[Corpse Qi: Two Units and a half.]

The woman had provided more qi than her husband showing that she had been the stronger of the two.

[Skills:Life Sense ----Upgrade, Decomposition------ Upgrade]

The word upgrade suddenly appeared next to its skills. The skeleton did not know what these words meant.

When it looked at the word 'Upgrade 'next to Life Sense, it felt as though it should touch it.

When it placed its finger on the word, the axe glowed crimson.

Its corpse qi began circulating rapidly.

New understandings about the Life Sense skill entered its mind.

When the light disappeared a few seconds later, the skeleton felt its understanding of the skill grow.

When it looked at the axe, a few things had changed.

[Corpse Qi:O units]

[Skills: Life Sense----Stage Two, Decomposition-----Stage One.]

The skeleton understood that the axe had used up its corpse qi to help it increase the level of its Life Sense skill.

Since the skeleton saw that there was no 'Upgrade' next to any of the skills, it meant that it needed to collect more corpse Qi so that it could upgrade its skills.

The skeleton considered going upstairs to decompose the girl but it gave up on this thought.

It was time to go out into the town. With the countless humans in the town, it could collect qi quite easily.

The skeleton decided to try out its Life Sense skill.

It circulated its qi and immediately, it could sense all living beings in a radius of five meters around it. This was not all. It could also identify who the strongest was judging from the intensity of their life force.
