Under the Veil of Night

In the City of Crime, one law stands above them all: Only the strongest can live. Fighting is normal, extortion is common, and death is inevitable. Born into a wealthy family yet forced to live in poverty, Kanae Nali vowed to become strong enough to take back what rightfully belonged to her—even if it meant that she had to face the consequences and brave the dangers lurking in every corner. Yet on the outside, just like her mysterious peers, she was no different from the other high school students living their lives to the fullest. “Under the ray of light, my ability will only make me die faster. Under the veil of night, my ability allows me to survive longer.” ____ Story set in fictional city. Any similarities with real world's event is purely coincidence. Real Awakened

"Kanae!" Kevin dragged the girl out of the lake as Kanae didn't seem to be able to stand inside anymore. He was unsure about what had happened to Kanae, but he didn't want to take any risk.

On the grass, Kanae curled up her body with her hand holding her head. The pain became even more unbearable. It felt as if her mind was breaking to pieces, but her body was still intact. Laying on the ground, she didn't utter any words as her attention was solely on the pain inside her head.

Kevin held Kanae in his embrace, trying to soothe the pain. He was not sure about the pain she experienced because he didn't feel anything. Except for warmth, the lake didn't cause him any kind of pain. This made him rather conflicted because he knew that she should have experienced it because of the lake.

"You're going to be alright," Kevin murmured in a soothing tone.
