The Test of Strength

Jack continued pointing his gun toward Lily, who had already taken her stance.

His eyes showed no fear, as they stared down at her, Lily who had always been feared by everyone she had met, felt unusual in front of this man.

His short height and long coat, made him look nothing more than a child wearing overgrown clothes, but his expression and face showed years of experience.

Fear ran through Lily's body as he stared at him in the eyes.

Noticing something, Lily couldn't help but be taken aback.

Jack's eyes were changing colors the grey-whiteish color was no more. His sclera changed hue from the previously lifeless white into a devilish one. It was like staring into a dark lake with nothing but a red ring floating inside. Lily stopped in her tracks, the moment Jack's eyes changed, she could feel it. It was as though every part of her body was on his radar, the smallest movement was followed by his diabolic eyes.

Ignoring her emotions, Lily tried to move to the right trying to create an opportunity to attack, immediately turning left to faint out Jack's eyes.

*BANG

In that small moment, however, Lily's left leg was pierced by lead. Falling to the ground, after getting shot, Lily screamed in pain. Jack not caring as she heard the screams of the little girl, started to speak as he lowered his gun.

"What are you?"

Lily who had barely regained her calm after the extreme pain could only breathe heavily as she looked up at Jack.

"I asked, what you are?"

Standing up slowly, while clutching her leg, Lily once again focused her eyes, on Jack's rifle. Seeing her worries, and tunnel vision, Jack put his rifle aside and took out his axe. Grabbing onto it as he swung it around with only one hand.

Breathing heavily as she looked at Jack who swung his axe around as if it was nothing she wondered what was going on.

"Answer, the question"

"Haa, Lily is...is a Hunter"

"No, you are a solider. An experiment that from now on will follow my orders. So start by learning your place."

All Jack did was give her a colder look than before but even then, Lily's senses told her to run. Not once in her life, had she ever seen a man such as Jack. What made Lily wonder the most was Jack's eyes, everything up until now made her thoughts go in disarray, wondering if he was even human.

And as if reading his mind, Jack answered her question.

"You are probably wondering what I am, you might even be wondering if I'm a demonic human such as yourself. So I should explain something to you, I am an Enhanced Human."

"Enhuanse human?"

"Correct...You see almost ten years ago, the first demon was defeated, and with that many experiments were made. Through that, a discovery was made. By injecting a small amount of blood into a human one could harness a certain power relating to that demon."

"Power?"

"The first demon that was ever defeated was the blind demon, who represented the fear of going blind. By injecting its blood into our bodies we could harness the power of better and more powerful eyesight. However, only those that had some involvement in defeating the demon were able to survive the process, thus naming this process, the Conquering, as in conquering your fears."

"Lily doesn't care"

"Is that so? Then come"

Pointing his axe, as he smirked, Lily couldn't help but get mad as he stared at Jack's face.

Rushing in, in a straight line, extending her right arm and aiming at his chest with all her might, her arm started to change. Like a claw made out of shadows, her arm grew in great size, however, even after that, Lily's hand felt nothing.

Getting a better look, all she could see was Jack slightly moving to the left to dodge her attack. Regaining his steps Jack started to wind up with his all-powerful axe, Lily's eyes grew in fear, as Jack stroke down.

In an attempt to dodge the attack directed at her arm, she focused all of her power onto her leg, propelling forward, only to get smashed on her back by Jack's axe.

"Kuhak..."

Blood started to spill from Lily's back, Jack just stared at the black substance as he put his leg on Lily's coughing head, pressing downwards to unstuck his axe.

Jack turned his head to the right, seeing the faces of three children that looked as if they had just seen a ghost. Swinging at the air to clean off the blood from the blade, Jack made sure to get everything off.

"Get ready"

They couldn't get ready. Aiming his axe at the group, and not waiting for a second longer, Jack started to run at them with his eyes focused on all of their movement.

The first one to react was Stefen, who using his balloon demon abilities expanded his arm like a floaty, and then as he suddenly released the pressure his fist shot out directed at Jack's face.

"Dodge that", He said acting smugly of his abilities.

Being unfazed by the attack, all Jack did was lower his head to dodge the extended fist, and without missing a beat, he slashed upwards, cutting off Stefen's arm. Stefen who just had his limb cut off, fell onto the ground, screaming as he held onto the remaining part of his right arm.

The other two were frozen at the sight of the blood spilling from their comrades, however, Jack wasn't so kind as to let them get any breathing time.

Pulling his rifle back out, he aimed it directly at Carl, who then suddenly grew his beard at an incredible pace to create a shield.

"...Huh?"

No bullet was ever fired, confused at the situation, Carl started to lower his beard shield.

"Wait, Carl to your left", Anastasia who didn't have her vision blocked by the shield was able to easily notice Jack's faint. However, it was too late. Before Carl could even react, an axe had already cut him in half. Being too shocked at the situation, he didn't even scream as his upper body fell onto the ground.

Anastasia spooked by the situation also fell onto the ground.

"Wait...Please"

Jack didn't miss the opportunity, immediately lowering his body to rush at her defenseless body.

Anastasia who was too scared at the moment immediately raised her arms in panic, making Jack stop. Suddenly five pairs of strings wrapped around Jack's axe.

Letting go of his axe, Jack immediately grabbed onto his rifle aiming it directly at her chest. Noticing this Anastasia pulled back her strings and positioned her hands similarly to someone doing a trick with a rubber. Firing either way, the bullet was stopped by her strings that acted similarly to the force field.

"Ah...Interesting"

Seeing as how shooting was not worthed against Anastasia, Jack picked up his axe that had fallen onto the floor, threatening Anastasia that he would rush forward. Not wanting the scary man to approach her, Anastasia pulled her ten strings, that then became thicker as they floated in the air, taking the form of a spear.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH STAY AWAY"

Using whatever mental strength she had left, she threw all ten spears to where she predicted Jack would be considering his speed.

Only for him to stop.

With all spears missing their target, Anastasia lost all hope for the fight accepting her face as she witnessed true fear before her eyes. Jack, making a large stride and putting his axe hand behind his back like a pitcher, he did a wide motion as he quickly pitched his axe towards her arm.

"N-No, please"

Jack sent his axe flying as they split apart Anastasia's left arm.

Finally taking in a heavy breath, Jack started to walk towards Anastasia as she begged him to stop. Ignoring her pleas, Jack picked up his axe and ignored the mess around the room. Slowly making his way to the front of the class, Jack grabbed onto a sit.

"Zain, come inside, you as well, Sarah"

Not trying to rush inside, both Zain and Sarah could only peek at the door as they both stared at Jack.

"We don't need any discipline, right?"

"Just come inside"

Having a final look at every single dismembered child in the room, Jack pulled out a notebook from his backpack on the ground and began to speak.

"Lily Degarcia, stupid approach, way too emotional and not calculative in any way, 2/10"

"Stefen Kurzt, fast reaction speed, however incredibly predictable, 4/10"

"Carl Reporba, interesting use of his ability, however, it seems that he lacks the common sense to block his own field of view, 3/10"

"Anastasia Ferlawk, is cowardly, however, smart thinking and use of her ability, still needs more courage, 6/10"

Even after finishing his grading, no response could be heard so Jack just continued talking.

"Good job, it's better than most recruits, also I know that all of you are awake, even you Lily"

Finally showing some reaction, everyone in the room was now looking at Jack.

"I will now be giving an extremely important announcement"

"Announcement?", Zain who was standing next to Jack suddenly had a chill run down his spine, it was actually the same for everyone in the room.

"From now on, everyone in this room will be part of division five"

"...Old man, there is no division five."

All Jack did was stare Zain directly in the eyes, and Zain was able to tell, that it was all messed up.

"Division five is a new experimental division in which the use of demonic humans will be allowed for scouting."

"Scouting?", Unsure as to what Jack meant, Sarah had no choice but to ask.

"It's time we started to look at the outside world, isn't it?"
