The black book

Author's note: this is from Seraphina's point of view

Seeing that the older man was looking in my direction, I turned to see if there was someone behind me. Nope. He was looking at me.

"Are you talking to me?" How could he wait for me? I had never seen the guy before.

The man nodded and looked at the stack of books by his side.

He took the second book that had a worn-out black leather binding and handed it to me with, "This one is yours. One gold piece."

I frowned. "Mine?" I didn't pick anything. "Are you trying to swindle me?"

His frown matched mine. "I am conveying the will of the books. This one wants to be yours. Your fates are connected."

I glanced at Vesper who was looking at the book with a sour expression like she had eaten something bad. Did this mean the guy was legit? Well, Vesper wanted to buy his books.

I reached out for the book. I might as well see what it is.
