Investigation

After discovering the note in the victim's office, Jack and Detective Johnson immediately started investigating the former employee fired for embezzlement.

Jack: "We need to find out where this former employee is now. Do you have any leads?"

Detective Johnson: "I've already started looking into it. I found out that he's been working at a restaurant in town. I'm going to pay him a visit."

Jack: "Okay, let's go together."

They drove to the restaurant where the former employee worked and spoke to his manager.

Manager: "Yeah, he works here. His name is David. Is everything okay?"

Detective Johnson: "We need to speak with him about a case we're investigating. Is he working right now?"

Manager: "I think so. Let me go check."

The manager returned to the back with David, the former employee.

David: "What's going on?"

Jack: "We need to ask you some questions about the murder of your former boss."

David: "I didn't have anything to do with that."

Detective Johnson: "We have reason to believe otherwise. Can we speak with you outside?"

David nodded and followed them outside.

Jack: "We found a note in your former boss's office that implicates you in his murder. Do you have anything to say about that?"

David: "I don't know what you're talking about."

Detective Johnson: "We also have witness statements placing you at the scene of the crime. You need to come down to the station with us and answer some more questions."

David: "Fine. I'll come with you."

Jack and Detective Johnson escorted David to the police station, where they interrogated him.

Detective Johnson: "David, tell us about your relationship with your former boss."

David: "We didn't have a good relationship. He fired me for embezzlement, and I've been struggling to find work ever since. I didn't kill him, though."

Jack: "What were you doing at the scene of the crime on the night of the murder?"

David: "I wasn't there. I have no idea what you're talking about."

Detective Johnson: "We have witness statements placing you there."

David: "That's impossible. I wasn't even in the same city that night. I was visiting my sister out of town."

Jack: "Can you prove that?"

David: "I don't have any receipts or anything, but my sister can vouch for me. You can call her if you want."

Detective Johnson: "Okay, we'll look into that. What about the note that we found in your former boss's office? It's in his handwriting and mentions that he suspected you of wanting to hurt him."

David: "I don't know anything about that. Maybe he was just paranoid."

Jack: "Do you know anything about his financial troubles?"

David: "No, I don't. I was fired before any of that came to light."

Detective Johnson: "Okay, well, we're going to need to take a closer look at your alibi and investigate further. You're not free to leave, but you have the right to an attorney."

David: "I understand. I didn't do it, though."

Jack and Detective Johnson continued questioning David about his whereabouts and possible motives for the murder. Still, he maintained his innocence throughout the interrogation. They took his statement and collected any evidence that they could use to corroborate or refute his alibi.

Afterward, they decided to visit David's sister to verify his claim of being out of town on the night of the murder. They found her address and knocked on the door.

David's sister: "Hello, can I help you?"

Detective Johnson: "We're investigating a murder case, and we need to ask you some questions about your brother's whereabouts on the night of the crime."

David's sister: "Oh, I see. Come on in."

They sat down in her living room, and she told them that David had visited her on the night of the murder. She said they had dinner together and then watched a movie before he slept in the guest room.

Detective Johnson: "Thank you for your cooperation. Can you provide us with any evidence to support your statement, like a receipt or a ticket stub?"

David's sister: "I don't have any physical evidence, but I'm willing to testify in court if necessary."

Jack: "That might be enough for us. Thank you for your time."

They left David's sister's house and returned to the station, where they reviewed the evidence and witness statements. They still had no concrete evidence linking David to the crime, but they couldn't rule him out as a suspect yet.

Jack: "We need to keep investigating and see if we can find anything else that could help us solve this case."

Detective Johnson: "Agreed. Let's keep working on it."

As they continued their investigation, Jack and Detective Johnson interviewed more witnesses. He examined the crime scene and the victim's financial records. They discovered that the victim had been embezzling money from his company for years and that several employees, including David, had been fired for similar offenses.

They also found evidence that the victim had been involved in a shady business deal that had gone sour and that he had received threats from an unknown person or group. They traced the threat to a mysterious email address but couldn't identify the sender.

Meanwhile, David had been released from custody due to a lack of evidence. However, Jack and Detective Johnson still suspected him of being involved in the murder, and they kept a close eye on him.

One day, while they were following David, they saw him meet with a man in a secluded park area. They watched from a distance as David handed the man an envelope and walked away quickly.

Detective Johnson: "We need to know what's in that envelope. Let's follow the man."

They followed the man to a nearby apartment building and waited outside. After a few minutes, he came out and walked away. Jack and Detective Johnson went inside the building and found the apartment where the man had gone.

They knocked on the door, and a woman answered.

Jack: "We're police officers, and we need to ask you some questions about the man who just left your apartment."

Woman: "What man? I haven't seen anyone."

Detective Johnson: "Ma'am, we saw him enter your apartment. Please cooperate with us."

The woman hesitated for a moment and then let them in. They searched the apartment and found the envelope David had given the man. It contained a large sum of cash and a note that said, "Job well done."

Jack: "This is enough evidence to arrest David for the murder. Let's go."

They rushed back to the station and presented their findings to the chief of police, who authorized the arrest warrant. They found David at his apartment and arrested him without incident.
