First Mission: SCP:4210

"This is bad," Cain said through his hands. He was sitting on a bean bag while I looked through my journals.

"How?" I turned to him, "This is finally my opportunity to be more than an SCP! I can make a name for myself! Like Jack Bright!"

He looked up, "But are you ready for it? It hasn't been long since-"

"It's been 6 bloody years!!" I shouted, "Why can't anyone else remember that?! I've changed, and I'm ready for this!"

"I can see you're frustrated," Cain replied.

"Yes, and the floor is made of the floor," I turned away to focus back on the books.

"All I'm saying is you haven't been in a lot of combat training in a while," He explained, "You would have been toast if the MTF hadn't shot that last guy."

I frowned, angry that I agreed with him. I shook my head, "I'm not going into combat. I'm just joining them on their investigation."

I could sense Cain raising an eyebrow, "Uh-huh. Sure." I turned to glare at him and he sighed, "Ok, can you at least go get a refresher? For my sake. I don't want you going out there unprepared."

I felt my heart warm, knowing he was worried about me, but I didn't let it show, "Fine. If it'll make you feel better."

"It would," Cain said standing up.

I walked over to him, "You wouldn't know what to do without me," I said jokingly punching his arm a bit hard. A punch landed on my same arm as I did it and I winced, "OW! My funny bone!"

Cain laughed as I writhed in pain on the floor, the symbol on his head glowing.

I stepped out of my transportation cell as the door opened. MTF agents were running back and forth, some were carrying supplies back and forth. Bright and Roth were standing with an MTF agent. I looked around as a cool breeze blew across my face. I took a deep breath.

I haven't been outside in forever.

Something poked me in the back. "Keep moving, Skip," Aaron ordered me. I glanced back at him with an annoyed expression. With his helmet on, I couldn't read his expression through the glass. I turned and made my way down to the two doctors. Two weeks ago, they invited me to help them, and now here I am.

Dr. Brights's eyes spotted me and he smiled, "Iris!"

"Dr. Bright," I smiled, "It's been a bit."

"Two weeks if I remember correctly," Bright said, "And you can just call me Bright, instead of Dr. Bright. It usually makes it easier for the MTF."

A cough came from Blair Roth as she sat there. I frowned, "Hello, Blair."

"Dr. Roth," She glared at me and I met her gaze. I haven't forgiven her for the rude comment she made the day Bright showed up.

"So what's the mission?" Aaron spoke up to break the tension.

Roth turned away and pointed to her laptop with her paw, "We've managed to track a middleman of the CI and the Serpents Hand nearby SCP-4210. We believe it is using it to transfer information through SCP-4210-D."

"SCP-4210?" I racked my brain, "Ug it's on my tongue... Something about a house and nukes."

Roth rolled her eyes, "It's a house that turns the occupants into a 'Nucular Family'. We called you in because we need to steal the younger brother's USB, which we believe is storing info regarding the two parties."

I folded my arms, "Well, why can't you just hack his computer to get the info?"

"It's a bit more complicated than that," Bright spoke up, "He seemed to have activated a signal blocker over his house that only his computer can get through. It's an anomaly, and we have no way of getting through it."

"Your job," Roth pushed a key on the laptop and it showed a small brick house, "Is to get close enough to get a photo of the boy's window," She pointed at the laptop, "reach in and snatch the USB without the family knowing. If the boy catches you, you leave him to Aaron."

Aaron nodded. I didn't have to be a mind reader to know what she meant by that.

If I was caught, the boy will die.

I crawled closer to the house, Aaron right behind me. Bumping against my chest in a familiar way was my old polaroid camera. Not gonna lie, my heart was a flutter to have it back. To think it was gone at one point.

My one connection to my home.

I stopped crawling and looked through my lens. It was just close enough for me to see inside the house. I snapped a picture, the groove in the button matching my thin finger. The camera began to shutter as the image was printed. I picked it up and looked at it with intense eyes. Suddenly it moved, becoming a perfect copy of the scene before them. No boy insight. I looked at Aaron and nodded, mouthing the words, "I got it". He nodded back and lifted a mirror to signal the other party.

I lay there in the grass staring at the photo. It had been a while since I did that, it almost felt foreign to me. I looked back at Aaron who was sitting above the tall grass. "What are you doing?!" I urgently whispered.

Aaron pulled his helmet off and sighed, "We're far enough away where they won't notice us. Might as well relax." I looked from him to the house, unsure of what I should do. With an annoyed grunt, I turned to look at the house. I couldn't afford to slack off. We needed this information.

"You don't joke around, do you?" Aaron spoke.

"I just can't afford to slack off," I replied sharply.

Aaron chuffed, "Why? No matter what you do, you're just going to be put back into the foundation, regardless if we get it or not." I looked away and he continued, "Your just a Skip. There really isn't anything you can gain or lose from this. Well... Ok, that was a lie. You still have a few things to lose. Besides, I have a $20 bet on you."

I spotted a flash in our direction, "Move." I slid onto my feet and slid down the hill, leaving Aaron behind a bit. I scurried to the house wall and pressed against it, hiding in a blind spot.

Aaron landed next to me, "Little warning next time, Skip."

"Shh," I looked back at the window above us as a discouraged face slid onto Aarons, "I need a boost up there."

"Alright," He bent down and I climbed onto his back. He stood straight, boosting me to the window. I pushed the window up and peeked inside, almost gagging in the process. The room reeked of dirty clothes, but other than that, all was well. No one was inside.

I slipped inside and slowly closed the door so the boy wouldn't come inside. I locked it and looked around. The computer was on my left. I scurried over and began searching the desk.

"How's it going in there?" Aaron called.

"I can't find it," I whispered back, "It's not plugged in and it's not in his desk."

"Check his dresser!"

I walked over to the dresser and opened it. Inside was a half-eaten chocolate bar, some inappropriate magazines, and an envelope. I picked the envelope up and reached inside. My fingers moved around until they found their prize. I pulled out a small green USB and smiled.

"I got it!" I whispered to Aaron as I stuffed the envelope in my pocket.

"Great!" He whispered back, "Drop it down."

I began to move when I felt footsteps on the floor. A squeaky voice began to speak from the other side of the door.

"It might be in my room. One sec."

"Wait a minute boy," A familiar voice called. It was Bright trying to slow him down.

"One sec, Mr." The door handle began to twist.

Crap.

The locks don't work.

I ducked into his closet as the door opened. I sat up and almost gagged at the smell of his jacket. A shadow crossed me as he walked in front of the closet. He opened his drawer and shuffled around in it.

"I know it's here somewhere," He opened another one and shuffled through it as well.

A girl's voice spoke up, "It might be in the closet, Lennie."

"I'll look there in a second," The boy, Lennie said.

I froze. I needed a distraction. I pulled out the USB and the two photographs and began to think. I couldn't let myself be caught. I looked around and spotted a pen in the pile of clothes and junk. Just then, an idea popped into my head. I snatched the pen and wrote, "Go hide -Iris" On the USB. I picked up the image of the window and gazed into it. IT began to move, and I spotted Aaron pressed against the house. I reached into it and snapped at him. He looked up and stared at the hand. I grabbed the USB and dropped it through the picture. Aaron caught it and read it. He looked back at the hand and nodded. He then started for the hill we hid on.

"It's not there," Lennie said through the door.

"Ug! you're so stupid," The girl groaned, "It's in your closet." I felt the footsteps grow closer and I my pulse quickened. I quickly reached through the photo and hit the window. A loud band sounded and the footsteps stopped.

"What was that?" Lennie asked.

"I think a bird hit it!" The girl exclaimed.

"Yooo sick!" I felt his footsteps run away with the sister right behind him. I waited a second before climbing out of the closet. I checked the photo to wait till they left the window. They were searching through the grass, looking for the supposed bird. About 5 minutes passed and they walked away, giving up their chase. I quickly opened the window and slid over the edge, getting as close to the ground as I could. I pushed off the house and rolled as I hit the ground before I ran to meet Aaron.

He was lying in the tall grass as I dashed up, "All good in there?"

"Yep."

"Perfect," he sat up and began to crawl away from the house, "Let's get this to Bright and Roth."

"Agreed."

I followed him on my knees for a few minutes before it was safe to stand up. Aaron looked at me with a blank face, "I... you did a good job. I'll admit that."

I looked away with an annoyed expression, "Thanks. Best of luck with that bet, by the way." His lips curled in as his eyebrows narrowed. I smiled before walking past him, leaving him in the dust.
