Chapter 7

Malia managed to calm Amber down and put her to sleep. Amber is, however, still anxious, judging by her sleeping position on the bed being so stiff and her phone gripped tightly in her hand. Malia, couldn't pull it out, and when she had exerted a little more energy, Amber stirred in her sleep. The last thing she wanted was to wake her up again. 'Maybe she needed to speak to that person on the other side.' Malia thought. She only prayed that the other person could call back so that her friend could calm down.

Throughout the night, Malia could not sleep properly; Amber had endless nightmares, and she cried a lot too. Naturally, this scared Malia a lot, but she tried to calm her friend, promising that the other party might call in the morning since it was already late.

Amber's body temperature was so high, and the only thing Malia could do was to get her to sweat it all out. Then, as the day broke, Malia, who couldn't maintain the awkward sleeping position, could only go to the kitchen to make some breakfast for the two of them.

As she chopped the ingredients to make some chicken soup for her friend's fever, she couldn't help but wonder how Amber's situation escalated so fast. It wasn't long when she was teasing her in the elevator, and suddenly, after just one call, she was like someone who had seen a ghost. Whatever scared her like that might have been so profound.

An hour later, Malia was done with breakfast, and she decided to have her bath. After her bath, she checked on Malia, the fever had subsidized, and she seemed to be sleeping soundly. Checking her wristwatch, it was already 9: 00 am. She left Amber to sleep some more as she left to have her breakfast. She had her breakfast quietly, with so many thoughts going through her mind. One of them is about possible part-time jobs to save more. After seeing her friend's place and feeling how comfortable it was, she didn't want to leave where she was and ended up in a very degraded place. She knew that she could never afford a classy apartment like Ambers, but she still wanted to sleep in a decent house.

She got her phone and started scrolling through the internet, searching for potential part-time opportunities. Unfortunately, some collided with her working hours at the restaurant, and she had to explore more. The boss is quite a rude man, but the pay is relatively pleasant. Since her job at the restaurant was from 9: 00 am to 2: 00 pm, she hoped to find another job from around 3:00 pm to maybe 6: 00 pm.

"I will rest when I save up enough to live decently." She comforted herself.

Her friend interrupted her thought process when she pulled out a seat opposite her. She looked more energetic, and it was a relief to Malia because she was distraught.

"Let me get you the soup that I made; it will make you feel better, and you could get some energy in your system." Malia headed to the kitchen to serve her friend. As she was heating the already cold soup, Amber's phone rang, to which she raised her head. She saw how Amber answered the phone anxiously.

Da... babe, is that you? Amber asked expectantly

Whatever the other party said, Malia sensed that her friend was almost breaking down again. So she turned off the gas and headed over to where she was. I Sat down next to her silently and rubbed her back to calm her down.

Can I talk to him... PUT HIM ON THE PHONE." she shouted anxiously. "Where is he? I SAID, WHERE IS DANIEL"

Malia seemed to have heard something that sounded like a growl, but looking at her friend crying out loud, she thought that maybe she was mistaken. "I am on my way," said Amber as she ran towards the door.

As Amber struggled with the door, Malia decided to head over to her room to pick something decent for her. Then, she could change into it wherever she was going. I picked up a bag and some shoes and ran behind her. The elevator had already closed, so she used the stairs to catch up. They were pretty stiff, but she tried her best to run without complaining because her friend was going through something more disturbing.

Soon enough, she was in the lounge area of the apartment, and she saw Amber trying to stop a taxi. With her tension, she wanted to even get in the middle of the road just so any car could stop for her. Malia ran and pulled her out. "Are you crazy, Amber? Do you want to get yourself killed?" With Malia's help, the two could stop a taxi and be on their way to whichever destination.

"Where to ladies?" asked the taxi driver. Amber seemed to know the destination and seemed absent-minded to hear what the driver said. Malia could only smile at him awkwardly through the mirror and signal him to give her a minute. She turned to Amber and brought her back to the present. Amber was able to provide a location to her, to which the driver gave a cut nod.

"Where are you going?" Amber asked Malia, to which she answered that she was following her to wherever she was heading. Amber seemed unsure about the decision but just kept quiet. Malia looked at her, and her friend had not cleaned herself in the morning. She appeared so unkempt in the clothes from the previous day. They were all wrinkled since she had slept in them, and on her feet were the in-door sandals.
