Chapter 8

"I will not go in. I will stop at the entrance; I will return home as long as you get there safe." Malia tried to assure her. The last thing she wanted was to become a burden to anyone, especially Amber, who had been nothing but an angel to her.

Amber just nodded her head. It looked like she had no energy even to open her mouth. But, in Malia's mind, a wheel was turning. 'I hope she can open up to me when she feels much better.

Amber opened the door and jumped out as soon as the building entrance came into view. The driver hadn't parked well, and he was so mad and scared at the same time. Something about her not blaming him if something had happened to her. Malia could only apologize with the excuse that her friend wasn't feeling well. The driver took the money and drove off, mumbling about how the world was going crazy. Malia was disappointed because she wanted him to take her back home later.

She turned and saw her friend almost reaching the entrance of the gigantic building. She ran to her, but the guards at the door stopped her from going further.

"I won't enter." She assured them. "Amber, here are your clothes to change once you get in and get an opportunity. I packed a pair of shoes too."

Amber said thank you and headed inside, promising Malia to meet at home. Malia nodded and turned back to head home. She was embarrassed by the way the guards looked and spoke to her. So did she look like a thief whose presence would be rejected immediately? The thought hurt her, but she had nothing to do about it; but swallow it, just like all the other kids that she had experienced before.

"I now understand why she never wanted me to come along. Maybe the building was restricted." She decided to walk a bit longer. Take it as an opportunity to check the area a little more, and maybe, she could look for an evening job.

Inside the building, Amber was running through when she bumped into Alex, only for him to steady her. He almost pushed her off him if it wasn't that he recognized her as Daniel's girlfriend.

"Alpha." She bowed in respect. "Sorry for bumping into you."

Alex only nodded and told one of his men to take her to where Daniel was. She thanked him and decided to follow the other guy.

When Alex reached the exit, he caught a whiff of that scent. "she is around," the voice said excitedly. He walked very fast because the scent was disappearing in the wind. When he reached the main road, she wasn't there, and the scent was whisked away by the wind and the mixture with everyone else's.

When his men got to where he was, they were all confused; why was there Alpha running about like a crazy man. They were scared of asking him anything and just looked in the same direction as him.

Alex felt his phone vibrating in his pockets and decided to pick it up. "Yes, Chris?"

"Are you alright, man? Your secretary left me a voice note, which I just listened to. He seemed scared. What happened?" Came Chris' voice

Alex wanted to slap his secretary when he heard what his friend had said. But, he could only promise his friend that he was fine and that he would talk to him when he returned to the office.

Chris could only keep his questions in. He wanted to find out more about the business deal. Chris then decided that he would call Arnold, who was still abroad.

Malia walked further away from the building in ignorance of how anxious she had left someone. No one could tell that she had her own problems, judging by how she was polite to those who passed her. As she turned a corner away from the main road, she saw a vacancy post. They needed an afternoon part-timer. She entered inside to find out more details.

The smile on her face spoke volumes. Her heart was gladdened by the fact that luck was on her side. Despite the earlier embarrassment, something good did come out of following Amber today.

The inside part of the cafe looked classy, and one could tell by the customers that frequented the place just by looking at its strategic location. The area only harbored beautiful buildings.

Inside, she saw a lady at the counter; she greeted her and introduced herself as someone interested in the part-time job.

The older lady eyed her up and down as if sizing her up. She was satisfied because the girl was beautiful, and she was polite too. She decided to give her an opportunity since she was in dire need of extra hands in the cafe. "What are you good at?"

"I know how to make coffee; I can cook and clean. I am a very diligent worker; I will give you no reason to complain about anything. I promise." Malia looked at the lady expectantly.

However, she became anxious when the lady looked at her again. Malia wondered if she had said something terrible. She had her fingers crossed behind her. The little prayer in her heart was that God should intervene, a promise that we would work harder than she had ever.

"You can start tomorrow, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Those are some of our busiest hours. Don't make me regret it." So said Malia's new boss.

"Thank you so much, ma'am. I will work really hard," Malia promised

"Call me madam Claudia. You can have some snacks from here when you are done with your work." Madam Claudia offered with a smile.

"Thank you so much, Madam Claudia. God bless you abundantly." Malia was almost brought to tears. In her mind, dinner money had been deducted.

It gladdens my heart to know that someone out there is enjoying my story. Thank you for following me through this journey. It's a pleasure to write for you.
