The Mechanical Era

This novel is currently undergoing a rewrite. Expect a lot of change from the previous version of the novel. Synopsis: In a fantasy world ruled by kings and queens possessing great magical power, Kant Icurus Maybale is the only prince on the Aceaton Continent who does not possess magic. However, what he does possess, that nobody else does, is his past memories of the time when he was a Mechanical Engineer on Earth. With nothing but knowledge, brains, and wisdom, he dares to bring this medieval-esque fantasy world into the industrial era, and gain unimaginable wealth and power. Along the way, powerful forces that feel threatened by his rise in dominance will do whatever it takes to bring him down! Will he be able to conquer the continent, and potentially the world, to usher in a new age, or will he get crushed by the existing world order?

Learning About a Few Names

Howard retreated back to Kant's room to sit down and think things over again. He lay down on his red armchair while resting his legs on the nearby table. Upon placing his head on his hands, conjoined together to make a pillow, he looks up to the roof and shuts his eyes, surrounding himself in a void of darkness, left alone with his own mind.

The man desired two things from his conversation in the dining room. He wanted to know why the parents trusted Suzan so much, and a list of people who knew the full details of the plan. Although he managed to accomplish the first task, he was unable to follow through with the second.

As he calmed down, he started to ponder whether he should even spend time discovering the people involved. According to Danial's own words, the only ones who know are the ones in his inner circle, people whom he trusts his own life with.

Then again, if those inside his inner circle consist of a lot more Suzans than normal, then his survival might be a little compromised. His head starts being filled with countless horrible scenarios often having Kant's head on a stick.

What happens afterward? Will it go dark? Will that be the end? Or will he reincarnate? If so, what will he reincarnate as? In his opinion, the chances of being stuck in the body of a slave was much greater than the body of a prince or royalty. The thought sent a chill down his spine.

Having that list could give him a sense of ease, lifting a great burden off the back of his mind, knowing full well that the secret is truly safe. He at least won't have to worry about anyone identifying him in the future.

"I got a strong feeling Danial ain't handing me that list, no matter the circumstances. He's got a way of sweetening things up too much. Must be afraid of bruising his little boy's feelings," he remarked.

"If I want to know, I will have to find out for myself. Question is, whether I should be spending time on it? Considering it could take a lot of time, should I even care at all? Why spend so much time trying to acquire something, when you can go after something else more valuable?" he continued. Howard soon fell into silence, giving him some time to think it through.

"Alright me. What's the move? What's my play here?" he questioned himself. Howard thought of all the ways he could obtain what he wanted. But with the limited amount of time he had on his hands, he wasn't sure it was something we wanted to spend time on.

"If I am doing this, I need to get that information fast. I don't have much time left on my hands, as I have a lot of other things to do. Now, how would I go about acquiring it?" he asked himself.

"He did say the ones with the details are the ones he trusts the most. But that could depend from his lifetime partner Malinda, to a fucking librarian related to some mentor…" he muttered in annoyance.

It appears that Danial Maybale, a man proclaimed to be the most intelligent and powerful man in the kingdom, was blinded by his emotions and connections of guilt and loyalty. It frustrated Howard for a full 2 seconds before he realized the implications.

"If he kept Suzan on her post for so long because of her connection to Iker Lezley, he might still keep around his loyal minions from back in the day, assuming they are still alive that is."

"All I would have to do is to sit down, and start reading a few books, and learn the names of the people involved. I won't have to spend too much time going around acting all suspicious, and I can complete it quickly!" he remarked in his head.

Howard immediately got off the chair and searched his room for a history book, looking to see if it detailed any events that happened around 258 Magical Kingdoms Era (M.K.E), when Danial was around Kant's age, to 280 Magical Kingdoms Era (M.K.E) when Kant was born alongside his twin sister Reena.

After finding a book that matched his description, he started reading through the pages, trying to learn about everything he could about Danial's possible connections. As he reads more and more, Howard soon learns that most of the individuals that Danial had connections with in the past, had all but died before he was born.

However, that didn't really matter. Assuming Danial would like to keep his 'friends' around, he probably promoted their sons, and relatives to take up the positions left vacant by their tragic deaths. If Danial can hire Suzan, a woman with no prior experience to a librarian job, he would definitely hire the family of his allies, especially if they had experience in their particular field.

Although there were a lot of family names mentioned, only a handful ever had a direct connection between him and the others. These were the Boyle family, the Gerding family, the Wingman family, and the Caduceus Family.

The Boyles were a family of scholars and experts in history, politics, and philosophy. They usually acted as advisors and strategists for Danial to help gain and maintain his grip on power. According to the book, the family had provided Danial with a lot of insight about areas he was not experienced in.

Next were the Gerding and Wingman families. These were knight families providing the kingdom with one of the most powerful mage knights, while not being related to any other noble families. Even before Danial, they had occupied powerful positions in the legion of knights, and had only grown more powerful when Danial assumed the throne.

It was from one of these families, the Wingman family, is where Herrold Wingman descendant from. He was the knight commander given the task of 'protecting Kant from any dangers'. A job he definitely failed at performing. Guess he wasn't as competent as his ancestors were.

The final family on the list was the Caduceus family. These guys were a rich merchant family dealing in the lucrative business of trading valuable commodities with the other kingdoms. In exchange for helping Danial with his funding problems, they had been guaranteed a few positions in the palace as financial advisors that allowed them to have a great advantage over other merchants.

Although there were some few individuals that didn't belong to any of these 4 main families, these are the most important people Howard was sure he should keep in mind. They are the ones that helped Danial gain power, and they are the ones that fight off any rivals that may challenge their power. They are the ones who keep the other noble families on Danial's side.

These were the people Kant had been told his entire life by his mother and father to trust with his heart.

With this new information acquired, Howard felt a huge burden being lifted off his shoulders. From what he knows about them, they are trustworthy people who are loyal to Kant's father. If that is any indication, it would mean that his life is safe.

Howard places the book down and gets up from his chair, where he reads the book. He walks towards the window, to see if he had some time left.

"The sun is still shining. I might as well read up on the other books," he told himself, after realizing he had some more time left on his hands. He walks back to grab another book, to drain it of all its contents.
