The bad news did not sound that dreadful when it was Jared who delivered it because he sounded so casual when he talked about it.
If one would not pay close attention to what Jared was actually saying, they would probably be fooled to think that he was only describing to Cassie how his day went so far.
It was as though he was only having a normal chat with Cassie about the weather
The way he talked made it apparent that the mention of murder or even the idea of death, in general, was not enough to faze him and this observation made Cassie feel uncomfortable.
That was why even though Jared was acting heedless, that did not mean the same thing applied to Cassie as well because if the truth would be told, it gave her goosebumps just by hearing the other party's words.
But if only she knew that things like these were something that the other party has to deal with on a daily basis, then it would be a lot easier for her to understand why he was acting a certain way.
On the other hand, Ana might be sassy when it came to dating men but she was also the kindest person that Cassie ever knew. It was for this reason that she did not think that her friend could even hurt a fly, let alone another person.
Likewise, this was why the thought of Ana killing a person made Cassie feel sick to the core. In fact, she could hardly bring herself to imagine this possibility without feeling her skin crawl.
Meanwhile, oblivious of the chaos that he created inside Cassie's head, Jared continued with his explanation.
"It was their nature to kill, in the first place so I don't think their frustration towards you would be enough for them to set aside their innate calling for bloodshed. If anything, this might even trigger them more. It was normal for them to crave for a kill so if they can't get you, I could imagine that they would focus their energy instead to come after the lives of other unsuspecting victims. It was for this reason alone that I don't think there is any point to keep this matter dragging way longer than it already was."
By the time Jared was done explaining, fear was already written all over Cassie's face. Her entirety was struck by horror and she paled in trepidation.
She badly wanted to refute Jared's word and said something to defend her friend.
She wanted to tell him that even if someone would lend Ana their gut, her friend would still never commit such a gruesome thing.
But considering that they were referring to a person that was possessed by a demon, she could never tell for sure anymore.
So in the end, Cassie found herself unable to come up with words. Besides, at the back of her head, she knew that the reason why Jared was saying those words was nothing personal.
It was not intended to attack Ana nor sabotage her reputation as a person. Cassie already had a lot going on her mind at that time, and to be honest, she was really having a hard time trying to process everything within a short span of time.
But as though faith was determined to test the limit of her sanity, out on the corner of her eyes, she saw a shadow lurking from a distance.
Meanwhile, as if part of a reflex reaction, the girl averted her eyes. Yet, regardless of her effort to avoid it, Cassie could still feel that there were eyes on her as if someone was watching her as she was speaking with Jared.
At the same time, the intense gaze was so penetrating to the point that even without prior knowledge about it, it was still able to manage and make the hair at the back of Cassie's neck stand on its end.
'Cassiopheia'
Out of nowhere, she heard a disembodied voice calling out her name. The voice had a clear ring to it and somewhat has a psychedelic effect on her. A little reminiscent of the jingling of bells and it felt very soothing to the ears.
Curiousity took the better half of her and before she could even stop herself, Cassie found herself turning her head over to look in one direction.
As soon as she did that, she saw a young man dressed in purple standing not too far away from where they were seated. The other party seemed to be in his late twenties, and there was a slightly cold and aloof air around him.
Likewise, just like the rest of the other things she often used to see before, this guy looked nothing like a normal person.
It was one thing for him to have those extremely long limbs. But aside from that, it was also a question of how could its body could even support itself, in the first place.
Apparently, the man not only has a pair of very long limbs comparable to that of an ape, but it was also heavily disproportionate at his gaunt and stick-like figure.
In the past, Cassie would pass it off as part of her hallucinations. All it would take her was a few blinks of her eyes to convince herself that the faces would go away and thankfully, that would always do the trick.
However, it would no longer be the same case again because this time, Jared forcefully opened her eyes to reality.
According to the aforementioned changes in the circumstance and it was for with this same reason alone, Cassie already knew better than to feign ignorance.
She has now had a full understanding that those were not exactly part of a mere hallucination
