Crack!
That cracking sound made Jacob turn and raise his gun towards the source of the sound. Through the sight of his HK416 rifle, he immediately caught sight of a round figure making strange noises.
"Is that a wild boar?" Jacob asked, as surprised as Usagi.
While Jacob was walking calmly with Usagi in search of prey they had hunted, they came across this wild boar. The animal, with an imposing and threatening appearance, paused for a moment and locked eyes with Jacob, preparing to attack.
"Have you ever tried boar before?" Usagi asked, looking at the enormous creature. It would be impossible to carry it back to their shelter, so killing it would only generate problems.
Rrr!
However, before the boar could make its move, a yellowish and agile figure pounced on it from the side. Jacob was astonished as he witnessed how this mysterious creature fiercely bit the boar's neck, emitting a furious growl.
Roar!
Quickly, Jacob raised his weapon and aimed at the savage attacker. He recognized that he was facing an unknown creature that seemed to be part dog and part wolf. However, it was evident that it was a wild animal, and he couldn't allow it to pose a threat to their safety.
"A tiger?" Jacob was frozen when he encountered such an animal in an urban city. However, he aimed his gun at the creature with a single shot. The bullets were fired from the barrel, howling with a fierce roar.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
He shot several times at the creature, which dodged the bullets with astonishing agility once it sensed the danger. Every time Jacob aimed, the animal moved with impressive speed, avoiding the projectiles.
Rrrr!
Finally, one of the shots hit the creature's side, causing it to fall to the ground. Jacob cautiously approached, still holding his weapon, as he observed the injured animal. The yellowish figure lay on the ground, breathing heavily.
Jacob quickly assessed the situation and decided that it was necessary to end the creature's life. However, before he could take action, the creature emitted a final growl, and its body began to struggle for breath before dying.
Perplexed by what he had witnessed, Jacob dropped his weapon and stood there, trying to process what he had just seen.
"[Analyzing unknown creature!]"
Usagi approached and witnessed the chaos that unfolded in just a few minutes. The boar had been killed, and the thing that killed it was apparently a tiger.
"It's different from a tiger. Its teeth, for starters, are similar to a creature that has been extinct for a long time..."
"[Generating response! Creature identified! This is a saber-toothed cat, also known as a saber-toothed tiger. They were an extinct family of felines that lived during the Pleistocene period. They were known for their long, curved canines, which gave them a fearsome appearance and allowed them to be highly efficient predators.
The last saber-toothed cats belonged to the genus Smilodon, with the most well-known species being Smilodon fatalis. These felines were much larger than modern-day cats, with robust and muscular bodies. Their front limbs were powerful and adapted for grasping and bringing down their prey.
The most distinctive feature of saber-toothed cats was their canines, which could grow to impressive sizes. These canines were actually extremely long and sharp canine teeth that projected downward from the animal's mouth. They had a distinctive saber-shaped blade-like form, hence their name.
The saber-toothed cat's canines were ideal for capturing and puncturing their prey, allowing them to inflict deadly wounds in the vital points of their victims. Additionally, these teeth were more resistant and less prone to breakage than the teeth of modern-day cats.
Although the last saber-toothed cats were formidable predators, their size and specialization in hunting large prey also made them vulnerable. With changes in climate and prey availability during the transition from the Pleistocene to the Holocene, many of these felines became extinct...]"
"It can't be..." Jacob felt a chill run down his spine. If this was a variant of the saber-toothed species, then that meant Tokyo was in a different place than Japan.
It was still too early to draw conclusions, but it would be best to leave this place first due to the gunshots. "First, we need to go back for the car and take the boar with us. Its meat will be very helpful."
"Yes, I'll get the car." Usagi nodded, and without asking any further questions, she went to fetch the car.
Though confused, Jacob realized that his priority was to return to their shelter and stay alert in that desolate world. Carefully, Jacob and Usagi loaded the boar into the back of the car and drove away from the scene, leaving behind the mystery of the strange dead creature.
From that moment on, Jacob remained on guard, aware that he wasn't alone in that desolate Tokyo. He knew there was more to discover in that world full of uncertainty and dangers, but he was determined to face any challenge that came his way and fight for his survival.
...
In the past few days, they had already spent a week surviving in this place. It could have been easy for Jacob, but it certainly gave him a strange feeling of not being in control.
As evident in any central story, all the important events begin to happen once the protagonists start moving, and this leads to an imbalance in the world they find themselves in.
All these events start happening around them, so Jacob must be ready and observe from a distance. Certainly, this is not a world where the protagonist has good opportunities, but possibly tragedies.
He knew the name of the protagonist in this world, and that was Arisu, a young man who should already be in this world. Therefore, Jacob will start moving more from now on.
Intervening directly or not can bring consequences to him and Usagi, so he must think carefully and determine if it is a good idea to get involved.
"They should have played their first game by now..." Jacob muttered as he was taking new supplies to the modified car.
Since he didn't have the possibility to add integrated armor, Jacob installed some metal barriers on the rear, tires, and some parts of the windows without obstructing the driver's view.
In addition to that, Usagi used a method to dry the meat and make the most of the parts they wouldn't eat from the boar since there is no electricity, and obtaining electricity is only possible at the mechanic workshop. They decided to make most of the food dried.
Tonight, after one more day of rest, they would head to another game, and after gaining more experience, they would travel to the beach.
