The Extra Seeks Chaos

Eric Langley, an eighteen-year-old boy whose parents passed away three years ago, had no known relatives and was left to fend for himself. To support himself, he worked in a bakery, using his earnings to cover his daily needs and indulge in his favorite pastime—reading chapters of the novel "Humanity's Strongest Mage," which had recently gone on hiatus. Eric had a love-hate relationship with the novel. While he was captivated by its world, he despised the Protagonist, Alex Whiteheart. Alex had it all from the start: strength, fame, money, and of course, a harem. He never faced any real challenges, effortlessly overcoming every obstacle, which made the story lack something Eric craved....... Chaos. One evening, while taking a walk with his headphones on, Eric was lost in thought. The music drowned out the world around him, and he failed to notice a car losing control and speeding toward him. The last thing he heard was a screech before everything went dark. When Eric woke up, memories flooded his mind, and he quickly realized something was wrong. He wasn't in his own world anymore; he had somehow ended up in the world of "Humanity's Strongest Mage." To his shock, he found himself in the body of Arin Vale, an insignificant character never mentioned in the novel—a true extra. Now, armed with the knowledge of future events and driven by a desire for chaos, Arin had one goal: to disrupt the smooth journey of Alex Whiteheart, the Protagonist. He was determined to introduce Chaos into the story, making it far more interesting than it ever was, and in the process, he'll also find out that there's more to his character than just being an Extra. "Why do I suddenly have a good feeling about this?"

The system screen appeared, and Arin's eyes fixated on it, eager to see the details.

[Due to the fact that certain conditions have been met, you have awakened the Hidden Element.]

[Hidden Element: Chaos]

'Huh?' Arin stared at the system screen with a look of confusion.

'If I cause chaos even once, I'll get the "Harbinger of Chaos" title, but this is completely different,' he thought. 'I don't remember seeing anything like the Chaos Element in the novel.'

Arin placed his hand on his chin as he considered what he was seeing. 'Show me more information.'

Immediately after he thought this, the words on the system screen changed, displaying new information.

However, he didn't have the chance to read it because…

"Arin Vale." Riya's voice cut through his thoughts, making him raise his head immediately.

As soon as he looked up, he saw her walking towards him, her gaze fixed on him.

'The look on her face isn't pleasant,' Arin thought, though he remained calm.

Riya finally reached him and sat down on his desk, leaning closer to him. "Have you been listening to what I've been saying?" she whispered.

'Oh, I see what's going on here,' Arin thought. "Of course, Miss Riya," he replied.

Riya squinted her eyes as she leaned even closer to Arin. "Hmm, you clearly looked lost. You were staring into space, so I thought I'd ask," she said. "Is everything fine?"

"Ah, yes, I'm good," Arin said, waving his hand to show there was no issue.

Riya's gaze suddenly became more intense, and Arin noticed it.

'What's her deal? I said I'm fine,' Arin thought, noting her intensified stare.

By now, the other students had turned back to watch the interaction between Arin and Riya.

Riya suddenly stood up from Arin's desk. "Since you said you're okay, and you were listening to what I've been saying, then tell me the last thing I explained about Mana," Riya said as she walked toward the front of the class.

A slight smirk appeared on Arin's face as soon as he heard her words. 'I see…'

Instantly, he stood up and cleared his throat. "Ahem, okay, Miss Riya."

Riya's indifferent expression returned as she waited for him to speak.

"Mana can be absorbed into the Mana Core, a core located on the right side of the chest, used to store Mana inside the body," Arin began. "A Mage or Warrior's Rank is determined by the amount of Mana they can store in the Mana Core, and also by the amount of Mana they can release," Arin explained.

Riya kept staring at Arin, her expression unreadable. It was hard to tell if she agreed with what Arin was saying, but he didn't care about that now. He was confident in what he was saying.

After a brief pause, Arin continued. "A Mage or Warrior can rank up by increasing the amount of Mana they can store in their Mana Core and release. This also makes it possible to use more advanced spells or battle techniques," Arin said.

The other students remained silent, listening to Arin. Riya had just explained this to them, so they already knew it. Some of them hoped Arin would stumble, just to see how Riya would react, considering the second-year students had warned them not to annoy her.

But Arin knew exactly what he was talking about, something the others didn't realize.

"By absorbing more Mana into the Mana Core, and constantly trying to break the limit of how much Mana it can store, a Mage or Warrior will be able to rank up in the process," Arin said. "And will therefore be able to use more advanced spells or battle techniques."

"Is that all?" Riya asked, her eyes fixed on Arin.

"One last thing," Arin added. "Each time a Mage or Warrior ranks up, it becomes even harder to rank up again. So, it's all about hard work and consistency," Arin concluded.

There was a moment of silence before Riya finally spoke.

"Good. That means you were actually listening," she said, a slight smile on her face… something rarely seen.

Arin nodded and sat down. 'If I had forgotten that part of the novel, I would've been in trouble,' he thought with a sigh of relief.

Finally, after a few minutes, the Magic Theory class ended, and it was time for the next class.

There were two classes for now: the Magic Theory class and the Weapon class.

However, Arin remembered that other classes were added a few days later.

Riya clapped her hands, grabbing the students' attention. "So, that's all for today's Magic Theory class. You can all leave now and locate the Weapon class by yourselves," she said before leaving the room without saying anything else.

"Huh? We have to find the Weapon class by ourselves?"

"How are we supposed to do that?"

"It's like she doesn't even care, she just left us."

Murmurs filled the classroom as everyone started discussing how they would locate the Weapon class.

Arin had an idea but decided to wait. 'No, I'll just wait for him to do it. It'd be a hassle to show them the class.'

And that was when…

"You all should calm down. Don't worry, I know where the Weapon class is," Alex said.

Arin looked at him with a slightly amused expression.

As soon as the students heard Alex, they smiled.

"Yes, we'll follow you!"

"After you, Alex."

Alex walked toward Tessa, who was still staring out the window.

A frown appeared on his face, but he quickly replaced it with a smile. "Tessa, come with me. I know where the class is."

Tessa turned toward him with a smile on her lips. "Okay," she replied shortly.

Tessa's smile instantly calmed Alex, erasing his initial worry. 'I'm lucky to have her,' he thought, admiring her perfect face.

With that, they all left the class, heading to the Weapon class, including Arin.

Meanwhile, Arin had his hands in his pockets as he glanced at the system screen.

He made sure the screen didn't obscure his vision, so he was still aware of where he was going.

"Wait, what is this?" he muttered as he read the system screen.
