The Empoyee

"How might you please me, Miss Parker?" "How would you want me, Mr. Holden?" I should stop. It was only a tease I had mindlessly put up, hoping to get a longer moment with him, listening to whatever I had to say, but apparently, he was a persistent young man, one who would get to the end of every matter started. "I'm only scared we don't speak of the same thing here" He followed. "Oh, I very much follow, Mr Holden" "Here's the thing Miss Parker" He began, figure tearing off the chair, approaching my form. I fretted at his incoming profile, eyes averted away, not daring to meet that striking gaze of his. Even in the calming space, I could feel the burn that rushed to my chest. He had soon pulled up beside my form, eyes peering on at my warded off profile. "I'd like to see how so well you think can please me" He called. "If you manage to have me forget how troublesome the morning has been, then I assure you, the position is all yours" Eyes had snapped up to him at once, gaze beholding the sincerity in those grey eyes. "Also.....He paused for a long minute, figure inching closer.....If you manage to have me aroused........ He drew even nearer, breath so close, it fanned against my neck. "My life's only a rollercoaster, Tara"

My figure had crashed right onto the couch, taking the space next to her form.

"A rough ride it is"

I could feel her eyes scanning my profile, no words coming from the girl away. At once I had snatched the heels off my feet, sinking my legs onto the plush carpet, and I tell you, the feel that rushed through was just every comfort I sought.

"Can you believe Louis Vettriano stopped by the office today. The life had soon rushed back to me, with every delight filling my gaze, while those words stumbled out my lips.

"He was there to offer me a job, Tara. A job!?"

"He offered to make me his manager"

The eyes of Tara only watched me while I went on. She had barely made an utterance, that gaze only remained intent on my form.

"I'm entirely lost, Tara" My voice was low, eyes faltering.

"Whatever do you think I should do?"

"Okay, that's enough, Jane!" Followed the voice of Tara, figure tearing off the couch at once.

"You put up with this every now and then, I'm beginning to think it's your usual routine"

A scowl had taken her lips, arms folded across her chest, while her eyes skimmed through every bit of my profile.

"What do you mea-

"I'm tired of you complaining every now and then" She snapped, voice soon bellowing into the air.

"If it isn't about this thing not being resonating with you, then it's about another being entirely unfit. Do you even bother to care how I feel about it all?!" Her voice had taken the walls, the anger soon hitting in her eyes.

"I almost got murdered, Jane"

"All because of you!" She blurted.

"Have you stopped to check on me? Have you asked how I've been faring since that day I had a gun pointed at my head by that boy you once called your boyfriend"

"Tara" My form had taken off the couch immediately, eyes staring in confusion at the girl away.

"Oh, Please, Jane. You can stop with the act, now" She scoffed.

"It's not entirely fitting on you" She added.

"What are you talking about, Jane?" My voice was low, questioning eyes peering on at her.

"We both were here to witness it all"

"I was as clueless as you were that night, T. I was as terrified as you too"

"Of course you were" She followed at once.

"Could you even tell that I lost my job?"

My jaw dropped at those words, figure inching closer to hers, but she had pulled away at once, while the tears came rushing to her eyes.

"I'm done with paying a listening ear to your problems every now and then!" She followed immediately.

"So done with rendering a solution, when you don't even care for one!" She snapped.

"And believe me, I no longer care whatever choices you make"

"You can go suck on whoever that man called Louis is, for all I care" She pronounced, right before stepping out the house, banging the door after her.

There were a lot of things I had witnessed all my life. Lots of fascinating things.

But one thing I never had come to behold was Tara raging. I barely could make out the girl stood before me minutes ago.

Whatever happened?

Perhaps, you've been selfish Jane. That voice pitched inside me. So selfish, you barely paid any attention whatsoever to your surroundings. To your own friend.

She'd lost her job, and you didn't even realize.

Maybe, I had been selfish, after all.
