The Diamond In The Rough✔

||Book 1 of the Diamond Series|| The world had fallen into chaos a long time ago. Creatures came and enslaved the human race: Vampires, Lycans/Werewolves and Demons. They took and slaughtered thousands of innocent people. Men, Women and Children. After suffering for ten years, another set of beings came. They had enormous wings and a shining silver rings floating above their heads. Rings that could be used as a weapon if necessary. These creatures were called 'Angels'. They were kind and honestly the opposite of every supernatural creature that existed in that era. They built their kingdom protecting as many humans as they could but the dark creatures had other things planed. There was a war that broke out. Every man for themselves or more specifically, every creature for themselves. The war went on for almost 500 years. Then there was a woman. She wasn't an Angel or Vampire or Lycan or Demon. Turns out she was a hybrid of all four. More powerful than anything. No one knows for sure how this hybrid was made and at some point, no one cared. Her name was Elaka. She was seen as a priestess. Elaka was the savior of all humans. She created a boarder and the world was divided in two: The Land of Light; was so peaceful that it had to be shielded from the world. Elaka had put a protective hidden wall around the kingdom so no one would come in unless brought in by the citizens. There were humans that lived there and their lives were a paradise. And total peace. And there was the Dark land. Where every other creature lived. The three major kingdoms tolerated each other for as long as they could. Years passed without war. Until Elaka suddenly vanished. Without her, the world would become chaotic again. The crystal was lost in the forest. So many have searched for it but never succeeded. Even if they ever found it, the legend says it was set in stone. It was glued to a tree and only 'The Diamond in The Rough' could pull it out. That person was never found.

CHAPTER 3:

That was a really odd name.

"Noie?" I tried testing the odd name on my tongue.

"is it a made-up word?" me-maw has played pranks on me like this before so this could be another one of her tricks.

"nope it's a real place. A place just like the Light kingdom. There, they accept people from everywhere. Hybrids, cursed people and outcasts like us. It's really beautiful; the people there are free and don't live in fear of vampires or demons or werewolves"

She's saying it like it was some kind of mystical land where there's a bush that grants wishes.

"sounds great but how would we get there?" I asked and me-maw scratched the back of her neck nervously.

"that's the problem. Because of how vulnerable it was, the land was placed under a spell. You don't find them; they have to find you"

"spell by who?" this 'Noie' place was sounding too good to be true and I don't like it.

What if we leave and find out that it doesn't exist?

"some say it was the great priestess others say-"

"I've heard enough" I began stuffing my face with pie.

That was the only way to tune her out.

"Lyra?" she wanted to calm me down.

Not like I was angry.

"me-maw you know how I feel about the priestess" not like I don't like her but still.

"I do but at this point, what other choice do we have?"

She was right.

What other choice do we have?

A sigh left my lips.

Guess I'll have to pack.

Not like I've got clothes to pack anywhere.

"alright. I'll get us breakfast before we leave. What time are we going to leave by the way?"

"we'll leave at dusk. I know you'll want to say goodbye to your friend" she smiled a little.

I smiled and gave her a hug.

"thanks, me-maw. You've been there for me for so long" my voice was like a whisper.

"your welcome" she hugged me back.

I never really had a mother but me-maw was more than I could imagine.

Though we've had our ups and downs but I could always count on her.

"now get some rest. We've got a big day tomorrow" me-maw lead me to my "room' I cuddled my blanket.

"good night me-maw"

"good night Lyra" she kissed the top of my forehead and I felt my eyes flutter shut.

Such a beautiful morning isn't it?

Clear skies, fresh breeze and about to steal what I'm gonna eat.

Today I'm targeting meat but the last time I did, I was almost caught.

That's why fruits are always so easy to get under your clothes.

But it's been a while since I've had meat.

And it's way risky to steal from a butcher if you know what I mean.

A sigh escaped me as I psyched myself up.

I'm ready.

Cautiously, I moved closer to the vendor.

It seemed he wasn't around.

Being as quick as I could, I put some meat into a little bag hidden under my cloak.

I turned around and began walking when someone called over my shoulder.

"hey you know you've got to pay for that right?" it was the butcher.

If I don't run now, I might lose a limb.

Without thinking twice, I made a run for it.

If there's one thing I know, running is like a gift.

That's one of the many reasons why I haven't been caught.

The butcher was still after me but I was losing him slowly.

"me-maw I'm done and off to the river" I kissed her forehead and grabbed my cloak. It was already time for me to be there.

Because the meat took longer than usual to get ready, time flew and Eri's probably waiting for me.

The sun was looking like it'll set really soon so I knew I had at least an hour to see her and get back.

That should be enough time, right?

"remember; Dusk! If I don't see you, I'll leave" I knew she was just pulling my leg but I couldn't be so sure.

With that in mind, I sped to the river.

Not surprisingly, she was already there, sitting by the bank.

"hey" she smiled.

"hi" I sat beside her. There was something in her hand.

"I"ve got something for ya" she took out the blueberry pie from under her cloak. Her mum makes a mean blueberry pie.

I've always wanted to tell her how nice her cooking was but with my social status, that isn't possible.

"thanks" I watched her share it equally and hand mine over.

Seconds later, mine was already in my mouth.

The taste of blueberry was exploding in my mouth.

This was by far one of the sweetest things I've tasted.

Then again, I haven't tasted much.

"so, any news?" I asked her casually.

"not really. The blacksmith's son was taken" I never really liked them so I just shrugged it off.

This is one of the perks of staying close to the forest.

"what about you? Anything new?" that's when I remembered I had to tell her about us moving away.

Easier said than done.

"well, me-maw said we're leaving tonight and we might never come back" there was a broken look on her face and it was really pitiful.

"w-why?" her voice was shaking.

"the rate vampires are taking humans is becoming unbearable so we have to leave-"

"to where?" she interrupted.

It was a little more before her eyes began to water.

"some place called Noie" the sadness was replaced with confusion.

"believe me, I'm confused too but I have something to ask you. Will you come with me?" I would be surprised if she agreed to come.

She would have to leave her family and a chance to live to follow me-maw and I who might not get very far.

The sun was already setting and I knew I had like thirty minutes to get back or else she'd leave my butt behind.

"why dont you think about it? we're leaving at dusk; probably in like 15 minutes" I gave her a quick hug before vanishing into the woods.

There are two reasons why I'm going so soon; so, me-maw wouldn't leave me and the annoying feeling that something's wrong.

When I'd finally gotten back, it was quiet.

A little too quiet.

I just hope everything's fine.

When I opened the door, a gasp left me and my eyes almost began to water.

I had to rush this chapter a bit.
