The villagers created giant holes and placed the logs in them, before shoveling dirt over the trees. There were many things going into the building of the wall. Many of the logs were used as support for the logs making up the wall.
Many days passed and the construction was going smoothly. More than fifty villagers were working at the wall at a time. Almost half of the wall was completed, but it came at the expense of the villagers. They were exhausted and needed to rest, but there was no time for rest. So the construction was sapping their strength. In these conditions some became sick and had to rest. But since people couldn't afford to get sick, they had to stay outside. So the construction of the wall was halted, as they built a shelter for the sick outside of the lodge.
Almost a month had passed since the construction of the wall had been put to action and it would be completed today. But that wasn't the only good news of the day. This day marked Jasmine's arrival at the magic tower and she could finally begin her studies.
Like that the construction was finally over. I watched as everyone cheered and partied, thinking they were safe, but they were far from it. That wall wouldn't hold a candle against a horde of monsters and that door, even when blocked from the inside, wouldn't stop anyone. But that wasn't their job, they could leave that to me.
I gathered all the energy I collected through their prayers and sacrifices. Then I focused on the wall surrounding us and started giving it various abilities. Strengthen defense, invulnerability to fire and unmovable. I also made sure the ground wouldn't just be torn up and throw the wall to hell. Then I blessed the door with the same ability and with that I was empty. I didn't even have enough to talk with anyone and had to wait for some days to spark a conversation with Lenart.
But there was no rest for the wicked and after a night of celebration they got back to work. With the limited space inside the safety of the wall they built a workspace and started making wooden arrows for the huntsman and spears for those who lacked weapons. Meanwhile those who weren't working on weapons worked on making homes for everyone. Small houses were built, they were simply living places where one could sleep and nothing else. There was no need for a kitchen, they already had a kitchen for everyone, same with bathrooms. Leaving only shelter and sleeping areas to be made. Due to that more than one family could live in one of the houses and I made sure they created makeshift compartments.
Some more weeks passed and Jasmine had been informed of what happened at home. It scared her and she wanted to return home and check on her parents, but the magician convinced her to stay and said he would find out why we were attacked. That leads us to today's events. Jasmine's teacher had called for her and she nervously entered the room her teacher was in. It had nice furniture made out of wood and fabric, something only the rich could enjoy in this era.
"Good, please sit down Ms. Jasmine, we know why your village was attacked. Thank you for coming on such short notice, I know you're in the middle of your studies after all!" The man said. He sat in a luxurious chair, on the opposite side of a work table. The table had many different papers and books on it, with painted flowers and monsters on the pages.
"Please, it was the least I could do sir, I was the one who asked for your help." Jasmine said and awkwardly sat down in the chair prepared for her. Her teacher stroked his beard about three centimeters tall and said.
"I have great news and very bad news, so let's just get started. A monster lord has been born close to your village!" Her teacher said and she quickly interrupted him.
"What's a monster lord?" She asked, confused over what her teacher was talking about.
"Right, you've yet to be taught about monsters. A monster lord is a monster who's reached a certain level of strength. The thing is, we discovered that the monster lord that was born was a Kraken, an evolved version of Squidras a common monster in the ocean. Since the ocean where this Kraken recedes is very close to the forest next to your village the monsters most likely started to migrate from the forest to find a new home. I fear that this won't be the last wave your village experiences and your village deity should prepare for the worst."Her teacher said and took a sip of tea from his cup.
"Then what's the good news sir?" Jasmine asked, hoping there was some way to save her village.
"Well you see, if the monster lord was a land dweller or a subspecies of the mighty dragons, like a Leviathan then your village fate would have been set in stone already. But since it's a Kraken, if they survive some weak waves of lesser monsters they'll be safe!" Her teacher said and put down his cup.
"So I suggest you pray to your deity and sacrifice something to it, because it will need all the energy it can get." He said and waved his hand.
"Now you will have to excuse me, your home isn't the only place that's suffered because this Kraken and I have to do paper work!" He said, as Jasmine walked out, to return to her room, to further her understanding in magic, in hopes of one day using it like her teacher.
With the new information I got I sighed in relief and got back to work. If what he said was true then my wall will be put on trial very soon and I need the village to be in top form when that happens. Even if her magic studies interest me, I can't spend my time dwelling into the human arts, since I can't even use magic. I wonder how gods of magic do things, an interesting thought indeed.
Some days passed and I blessed all spears that the village made with extra sharpness and durability, they wouldn't break on impact now, without doing damage. It was expensive to do and it put me back at zero, something that saddened me. We deities have two ways to get stronger, one enhancing ourselves with energy and pretty much evolving in a way, the other was aging. Now I wasn't near old enough to grow stronger with age and have to use energy to grow stronger. Something I can't be doing with the huge lack of energy I've been having as of lately. I hope these monster ways can give me what I need, that being energy enough to get stronger. As of now I lack variety in my blessings. I can't really do much and what I can do within the things I'm capable of is very limited. So let's hope I grow stronger soon, because fate seems to be driving me towards that path
