Chapter 43: Death of Innocents
I feel as if all I'm doing is racing against time to catch up to death. The path up the hills becomes glassy under my feet, rocks around me turning into jagged shards of gemstone and crystal that glint in the sun.
Once I breach over the first hill I discover a valley of horrors below me. It's like an explosion happened here. There is a low long building at the center of the valley, decimated with jagged shards of diamond that burst out of it like a star. I can see the fighting laid out like a patchwork of blood and death, the worst at the center near the main building and then more waiting to join in further back.
I can't even make out what we're fighting with. It looks like the land itself is rising up to push us back.
