Chapter 42: Crystal Sky

It takes enough time to catch up that what I reach is a military style camp sprawled out at the foot of a jagged set of hills. Tents have been pitched hastily and folk are milling about talking uneasily, most of them soldiers or guards with not enough officers to tell them what they should be waiting for.

Above us is a sky that takes my breath away.

It is as clear as an arrow pointing to the rift, a cluster of razor clouds building further into the hills, jagged and sparkling. It's a crystal sky. The light on the faces of those looking up at it is refracted, small patches of gold and green and silver shifting over our skin as the clouds build and spread outwards.

I slip off my horse and do what I do best. I disappear.
