The Alpha & The Barbie

"It's nice to know the name of my mate, but it's disappointing to see you letting another man touch you, mate." I shivered in delight at the deep, rich voice as I turned to meet the man I'd been searching so long for. As my eyes met his deep blue eyes I shivered again before I realized who he was. "Shit! You have to be kidding me! Pardon me I have to go!" When you spend most of your life the size of a barbie doll, interacting with people who seem like giants in comparison can be a bit complicated, to say the least. When you then add a werewolf soulmate who hates your people and thinks you are weak due to your size into the mix it tends to complicate things even more. For Kendra, though, that is just a day in the life of an elven werewolf. This is a short story of only 24 chapters. It is now complete and it shall remain free to read forever. This is not my best work as it was written over a decade ago, but hey! Free is free!

Chapter Ten

"I can't believe the nerve of that boy! Who does he think he is? He avoided you all day yesterday on the last day you'll truly have together for at least two more weeks! Even then, you'll be a wolf at full size and not a person! Then today he announces that he is taking a two week trip to another pack and that he's taking Trent with him! Trent is my mate and he shouldn't be so cruel to take mates away for so long. Just because he is being stubborn and wants to avoid you when there isn't a single thing wrong with you! Now look where it's gotten us! The whole pack is being attacked by a rogue pack and there is no Alpha, no Alpha's son, and no Beta! Your mate is such a bloody moron!"

It's pretty obvious that Tiara is ticked off, isn't it? It really was a rather stupid move of Ashton's to leave the day after the Alpha and his mate left for their new home in Hawaii. Since it had already been more than a week since Ashton met me, the Alpha had to give up his position to his son. It's really too bad that Ashton can't fully accept his role until he accepts me. He should have suspected there would be a rogue wolf attack since there were plenty of rogues trailing along the borders of our territory. Now I'm the closest one to being in charge with Tiara being the second in command. I could kill Ashton for being so stupid and leaving his pack in danger like this.

Now my main concern was how we were going to approach this attack.

"Tiara you're with me, everyone else needs to go to the safe room. That means all of the men too, if they get past me and Tiara then you're going to have to be there to protect the women and children."

Everyone seemed to be nodding and agreeing until one man spoke up above the crowd.

"Luna, if you get hurt or die I don't think the Alpha will be too happy with us for hiding away like a bunch of cowards."

I sigh, but know in my heart that he's right, or, at least, half right. Ashton's wolf wouldn't be happy and would think them a bunch of cowards for hiding away, but whose to know with my unreliable mate?

"I'm sure he would be, but I'm in charge and I have to watch after the pack's safety before my own. So all of you need to go to the safe room, now."

I used my princess luna voice and, even though they weren't elfin, they knew I was still in charge and all of their wolves and themselves submitted as they quickly went to follow my orders.

"Are you ready to get out there and kick some butt? You know, it's been quite a while since we've been attacked, it'll be nice to see if we're still as good as we used to be."

Tiara's smile was a quick and small one that clearly showed her amusement, but also told me she was ready to get serious. I took my seat on the roof of the pack house so that I'd be able to see everything around me. Tiara took the porch where she'd attack and make sure no one got past me. As soon as the wolves came out of the tree line, I was onto them.

I'd flick my wrist and one wolf would go flying into a tree. I'd twist my hand with my hand balled tightly into a fist and a wolf's neck would snap. I'd wave my hand to the side and a few wolves would fall to their feet. Most of my work wound up killing them slowly as I had to keep them back and away from the pack house first and foremost. Then I had to slowly work my way around to snapping each wolf's neck or otherwise mangling them and ultimately ending their lives.

Tiara was doing a fair share of the killing as she used different enchantments to viciously destroy each of them. I still don't quite understand how her abilities work, but you don't hear people explaining how a vampire's speed or a werewolf's strength works so I don't think it's too big of a deal to not know. Either way you could certainly tell the difference between my kills and hers by all the blood involved in hers.

The attack didn't last too long since it was done and over in an hour. All the wolves were laying down on the ground dead as can be. It's a good thing too because I'm fairly exhausted after draining so much energy to hold back our attackers.

It might just be me, but I think there were more wolves in this attack than usual. The clearing we were fighting in is littered with dead wolves and I'm pretty sure this clearing was ten times larger than the one Tiara and I are used to from back home.

"Kendra, we might have an issue. All of the wolves are standing back up and changing back to their human forms. Th-their eyes, look at their eyes! They're pitch black, all of them! Kendra I-I don't think they're werewolves, at least, not anymore."

I knew what she was getting at, but they're just myths. Our world might be full of supernatural beings, but not the creatures she was trying to get at. The things she was trying to say are possessing them are just scary stories meant to frighten you. They can't be real and even if they were why attack us and why now?
