First Life-and-Death Fight (2)

As soon as he was able to parry the beast's bite, Charlie evaded to far away from its reach. He took the small interval between the beast's attack to quickly survey the surrounding. He realized that he won't be able to defeat the beast as it has an impenetrable hide.

Charlie easily commits to memory the landscape as well as his, the beast's position, and the bloodied body's position. He then tried to inspect his body if he can circulate mana. His eyes lit up when he can feel a little thread of mana inside his reservoir. He drafted his escape plan and went ahead with it without hesitation.

He dashed straight to where the bloodied body is while the beast was hot on his heels. In that short distance, he gathered enough mana to summon a bottle of potion from his space.

The beast was obviously faster than him. Four of Charlie's running steps was just one of the beast's. Thus, it would seem like he and the beast would arrive at the bloodied body at the same time. Right when he was near the body, he made a dive for the body while breaking the potion bottle in his hand. The potion's liquid burst all over.

As for the beast who was also lunging at them, as it anticipates burying its sharp fangs into its prey's body, it only felt its upper and lower jaws clashing together and biting through the air. Its prey has disappeared right in front of its eyes!

It looked left and right trying to see where the human had ducked away, yet to no avail. He circled in place once, and another time counterclockwise, yet he is unable to see, hear, or smell the prey that it was fighting earlier. As for the bloodied prey that it has caught earlier, it has long been forgotten inside its fickle mind.

The beast, who was unable to get its claws on its prey, let out a loud growl filled with rage into the air. Once it released its anger, it slowly moved forward and went straight into the woods.

A short while after the beast has been long gone, two human silhouettes lying on the ground where the beast was circling earlier slowly appeared into view.

"Goodness!" Charlie exclaimed as he let out a pained sigh. "I thought I will die without an intact corpse!"
