Jason's Sacrifice

The gunshot went off with a bang and the bullet pierced right through Jason's shoulder. Jason let out a shrieking scream that echoed through the room.

This was more than enough to get the attention of the other men with him, they rushed into the room because they knew for him to use a gun then something serious must have happened.

"Hey! Don't fucking shoot or those fucking undead freaks will hear us!" One of the men warned.

"Shut the fuck up and pack up what you can!" The man that shot Jason responded.

"There is a safe zone at the border, we need to head there. Leave this little fucker for zombies!" The other man responded and this sense of urgency prompted them to pack up what they could in a hurry and leave.

They knew the zombies would soon swarm the area and that would make it difficult for them to move about.

Jason was left alone, squirming on the floor in his pool of blood, the blood soaked into his clothes and the sisters that were hiding came out.

They saw the state Jason was in and knew he was as good as dead, he would become a liability.

Rachel kissed her teeth as she grabbed what was left and headed to the door but her younger sister stood in place.

"Come on Lillian! Let's go!" Rachel blurted but her sister was unresponsive.

"We can't leave him… He saved us," Lillian muttered.

She walked to Jason who was in pain, Jason was regretting his decision to come here but something told him if he didn't then it would have been these men she ran into so he didn't regret his choice.

"LILLIAN! WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!" Rachel barked but Lillian wasn't listening as she crouched over Jason and applied pressure to his wound.

"Help him, sister…. Please," Lillain's voice cracked. Rachel stood there for a second or two before kissing her teeth and walking towards Jason as well.

She asked her sister for space as she crouched over him to check the severity of the wound.

"It was a clean exit so that's a good thing," Rachel said as she snapped her finger and Lillian instinctively knew what to do, she ran to the room to bring a strange bag that had first aid treatment. Luckily, the men didn't find this but that was because it was in this bag.

No one would think to search such a ridiculous-looking bag and this allowed them to hide it in plain view.

Rachel looked irritated as she fixed up his wound, applying some antibiotics before covering up his wounds with a bandage to prevent any form of infection.

This was a good thing but Jason was not able to keep up with them.

"Y-You can leave me, I will be fine," Jason muttered and the moment he did, Lillian pressed his bandaged wound to which he screamed before clasping his lips shut.

"Stop trying to be tough, dickhead," Lillian cussed out.

"W-Who hurt you, kid!" Jason fired back and the look on Lillian's face changed as she became conscious of her body, covering up.

Jason sat up, his face was bruised too as he knew he shouldn't have said that because he didn't know these people even though this was an innocent expression.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…" Jason apologized but Lillian had already worn her sweater.

"You have done enough," Rachel responded and her eyes shot him daggers.

[Ding!]

[Quest Completed!]

[Reward: 40 EXP!]

"I almost died and you give me just 40 EXP!?" Jason thought to himself but he also remembered how he traded EXP for a skill that saved his life.

He knew that this was the currency for those skills so he was happy to be getting them nonetheless.

"We need to leave, the zombies will soon swarm the area," Jason suggested and Rachel agreed with him. Jason got a closer look at her, she was quite average looking but her green eyes gave her this goddess-like aura.

Jason was surprised that he could talk to them so easily considering he was not a social person to begin with.

Lillian returned and Jason felt guilty because he triggered an insecurity with his earlier statement. Jason tried to stand up but his knees gave way and his limp body dropped to the ground.

"..." Y-You can leave me, I will be fine"," Lillian repeated what Jason said earlier, clearly mocking him with Rachel chuckling. Jason was suffering from a concussion.

The force of the blow caused more damage than he thought but this meant that they had no choice but to spend the night here until Jason recovered fully.

That would be in twenty-four hours so there was no other choice. Jason hated that he was being taken care of but everyone was responsible for their current situation.

Lillian was the reason he was being taken care of because Rachel was ready to abandon him in a heartbeat.

Time went by and the sisters kept watch, they allowed Jason to rest and Jason noticed how much the sisters cared for each other as they constantly checked in with one another.

He also wondered where their parents were, they couldn't be orphans, could they?

Jason knew it wasn't in his place to ask questions so he let it be for now.

Jason's pocket pinged but who could be texting him?

He brought up his phone and it was a voice message from his older brother, this was a bit of a surprise considering they weren't even talking.

All his older brother did was send him money monthly and that was all.

Jason appreciated it but he never verbally told him thank you, it was now when he saw his brother reaching out amidst this chaos that he realized just how important this man was in his life.

Jason played the voice note and he didn't even realize when the tears started streaming down his cheeks but the voice note wasn't his brother checking up on him.

It was a farewell message that ended in his screams, his brother died on that voice note.
