Spider-X Chapter 12

Opening Scene Peter and Kitty are walking to the danger room for today's training. Kitty is wearing the full X-Men uniform with a black jacket with a large yellow x across the front while Peter is wearing his new Spider-Man costume.

"How come you wear that instead of the regular X-Men uniform," Kitty asked.

"I look better in this," I say flirtatiously.

"Who can tell if you wear that mask," Kitty said.

"I gotta keep my identity secret," I say.

"Why though everyone else on the team is public with their identities so there is no point to wearing a mask," Kitty says.

"Look Ghost I just don't want people knowing who I am what we do is dangerous and not to mention I'd be fired on the spot if Jameson ever found out who I was," I say.

"True but why do you even want to keep that job Jameson is one of the worst human beings I've ever meet," Kitty said with disdain in her voice.

"I know it's weird, but I like my job it gives me a purpose outside of Spider-Man and the X-Men, plus I like my coworkers like Mr. Urich and Ms. Grant," I say. As I finish talking we walk into the danger room with Logan standing there waiting for us with a grin spread across his face.

"I heard you two had fun last night," Logan says

"It was a date Logan why are you acting like this" Kitty says. Logan looks at me and says "So nothing more happened"

"Shouldn't you be training us right now instead of teasing us?" I say defensively.

"Just waiting on Bobby," Logan says looking at his watch. Just then Bobby walks into the room with his full X-Men uniform on.

"Hey guys check me out I am officially off punishment," Bobby says enthusiastically. We all just look at him with disapproving eyes and begin training. During my first spar with Bobby, I made sure to hit him extra hard for not keeping his mouth shut about Kitty and I. Everything was going great Logan even complimented my fighting saying I was natural at martial arts. Though Kitty just called me a show-off.

"Peter can I speak with you for a moment in my office," Xavier said over the PA system in the danger room. Logan let us off training early while Bobby kept asking what I did to get in trouble. I walked into Xavier's office again admiring how beautiful it was especially his view of the yard. "Peter please have a seat," Xavier said formally. "First off I want to say how happy I am that you and Kitty get along so well" Xavier continued.

"Is that why you called me here to talk about my dating life?" I say back guessingly.

"No I actually have an assignment for you today," Xavier said with a smile.

"What assignment?" I ask.

"We are going to be receiving a new recruit today and I want you to show him around and introduce him to everyone else," Xavier said.

"Why me I just got here myself I'm still new" I respond.

"That's exactly why I'm assigning you for this you and our new recruit are both new and are around the same age I'm hoping you two could make friends" Xavier explains.

"Well fine who is this new recruit," I ask.

"His name is Douglass Ramsey," Xavier says.

"Wait, Ramsey as in the Ramsey & Whedon law firm!" I say with surprise in my voice.

"Why yes he is the son Phillip Ramsey from the well-known law firm, but how do you know them I personally have them on retainer for their pro-mutant cases" Xavier continues.

"My old school Midtown High was gonna lose all its arts programs if Ramsey & Whedon hadn't stepped in and donated money," I say thinking back on my time at Midtown.

"All the more reason to befriend young Douglass and show him around" Xavier continues.

"Wait so Phillip Ramsey and his family are mutants," I ask.

"No just his son and since he knows about my school he asked me to take him in and teach him. Though between you and me Evangeline Whedon is a mutant" Xavier said. An hour later a car pulled up in the driveway. Xavier and I were standing out front to greet them. I was dressed back in my civilian's clothes just a simple black long sleeve shirt and old jeans. Out of the car came a tall man with an expensive suit who looked like he must be some big wig to global enterprise.

"Hello, Mr. Ramsey" Xavier said extending his hand.

"Charles you keeping out of trouble," Phillip said back

"Never," Xavier said back. "Let me introduce you this is Peter Parker one of my student and your son's guide". I shake Mr. Ramsey's hand.

"Mr. Ramsey you might not remember this but you helped out Midtown High school a while ago and I just wanted to say thank you," I say.

"Midtown High. Oh, I remember the school wanted to shut down all the arts program and we made a donation to help. Tell me Peter are you an artist" Phillip asked.

"Oh no I was just a stagehand for my drama club I wasn't anything special," I say.

"Considering you now are taught at Charles' school you must be quite special," Phillip said. "Let me introduce my son". A young boy who looked about 14-15 stepped out of the car he had dark hair and thick glasses that covered most of his face as he stood up I noticed he was a couple of inches shorter than me. I offer to shake his hand and he nervously accepts.

"Peter take Douglass inside and show him around while I talk with Mr. Ramsey"

Xavier said. I oblige and ask Douglass to follow me and show him around the X-Mansion. The entire time he looked scared like he wasn't sure what to do.

"Are you OK" I finally manage to ask.

"Y-Yeah I-I'm just nervous around new people," Douglass said.

"If you don't mind me asking how long ago did your powers develop and what are they," I ask

"My power only first showed up a month ago and it's nothing special," Douglass says while looking at the ground.

"I'm sure that's not true," I say trying to reassure Douglass. Douglass sighs and says. "My power is that I can understand and speak a lot of different languages".

"That's a great power why do you look so down about it," I ask.

"Cause it's only caused me pain I was bullied in school before I was mutant now that powers developed it only got worse," Douglass said with pain in his voice.

"So that's why you're dad is sending you here," I say. "Let me tell you something I was bullied back at my old school too". Douglass looks at me with shock and says "You were, you seem like the last person that would be bullied"

"Before I got my powers I was just a skinny nerd with a smart mouth, of course, I was picked on," I said.

"That's where we differ I can't fight back with my powers," Douglass said. I looked at Douglass with pity.

"You can fight back you just have to decide to fight back," I say as I put my hand on his shoulder. "Your powers don't define you and to be honest they wouldn't change who you are. I'm still a nerd I love science and watch anime" I continued.

"You watch anime" Douglass said with excitement.

"Yeah I had to stop watching for a while but I loved anime as a kid, and with your powers, you don't need subtitles do you," I said with equal excitement.

"Nope it was weird I just woke up one day and could watch Fairy Tail and understood everything," Douglass said.

"I've been meaning to get back into Fairy Tail I can tell we are going to be good friends Douglass," I say with a smile.

"My friends call me Doug," Douglass said

"Nice to meet you, Doug," I said.
