Chapter 74: The Last Moment

There were still 4 minutes left before the super particle collider would explode, according to Peni's estimation. 

"Damn it!" Peter cursed inwardly. "Guys, we have to speed up!"

As he spoke, he jumped hard, and at the same time, shot out spider silk from both hands. He started with a catapult jump and then used his web to swing, covering dozens of meters in an instant.

Behind him, Amazing Spider-Man B, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Ham also realized the severity of the situation. They didn't say anything and hurried to catch up.

According to Peni's previous analysis, now that the super particle collider had entered the overload acceleration state, every minute and every second was actually squeezing the life out of the machine parts.

Even during the two hours of overload, there must have been a lot of problems. It was estimated that Ms. Octopus was maintaining it, keeping it at a critical point where it was about to collapse but did not actually break down.

But when the overload acceleration is completed and enters the collision stage, the powerful energy generated by the collision will become the final huge log that overwhelms the camel.

If it were just a straw, it might still hold up. But the camel, which was already about to fall apart, would collapse under the weight of a weeping willow pulled up by Lin Daiyu.

The result was predictable. By that time, the particle collider would quickly fall apart and explode. The huge energy gathered during this period would also create a massive mimetic black hole, which would then swallow up Brooklyn and even the entire New York in an instant!

In just an instant. It would only take a single moment! They had to insert the reload key before that happened and reverse the program!

Although doing so would still cause a big explosion, at least it was better than having all of New York devoured by the mimetic black hole!

"Damn it, I should have let Gwen and the others deliver the reload key to Peni first," Peter thought, feeling very upset. 

Before, they believed that there were still more than 20 minutes left when they came down, which seemed quite ample. So they decided to finish up the last thing first. But now, they realized they had been too confident and underestimated the enemy.

But who would have thought that Ms. Octopus could be so decisive? When she was defeated, she plotted her escape while simultaneously making such a ruthless decision.

This kind of decisiveness was not even shared by the other Doctor Octopuses! It could only be said that sometimes, women could be more ruthless than men. Not only to others but also to themselves.

The underground base was very large. Fortunately, during the time Peni and Noir Spider-Man had stayed there, they had basically figured out the layout. 

Peni sent Peter a route map, planning out the shortest path to reach the main control panel of the particle collider, where the reload key 2.0 could be inserted.

Luckily, Ms. Octopus had dismissed everyone except herself and Jonathan, including those working under Kingpin. Perhaps this was why Peter and his team were able to stay in Kingpin's office for nearly two hours without anyone paying attention to them.

Now, without the disturbance of these people, Peter and his team had a relatively smooth journey. However, even so, it still took them about three minutes of navigating the facility before they finally arrived at their destination.

The last minute before the super particle collider exploded, as Peni had estimated. The first thing they saw was a dazzling light.

It was the light released by the high-energy particle beam that had been accelerated to near the speed of light in the strong magnetic pipe of the super particle collider.

Then, a roaring sound filled their heads. Some parts could be heard creaking and groaning under the heavy load, seemingly indicating that this place would soon become a bomb.

A massive bomb. Even more terrifying than a nuclear bomb!

"Over here!" Spider-Mech and Noir Spider-Man jumped down from a nearby metal frame. 

Peni was already seated inside the Spider-Mech. She grabbed Peter with one hand and leaped into the air with him.

50 seconds.

"I knew you would come! But it's too late!" 

Bang! A cover opened, and several white fluid mechanical tentacles emerged from it.

"Peter, hurry!" Peni's voice came from the Spider-Mech. Then, the mech exerted force and threw Peter out.

The Spider-Mech itself used spider silk to accelerate in the air. Without getting entangled, it directly dragged Ms. Octopus down with it.

40 seconds.

Peter landed near the main control board, and some chaotic memory fragments surfaced in his mind.

Not long ago, the Blond Spider-Man had also come here once. But before the reload key could be inserted, he was attacked by the Prowler and the Green Goblin in turn, and even faced a joint attack.

Later, Miles accidentally broke in, and the operation ended with the death of the Blond Spider-Man.

30 seconds.

After Peter digested these memory fragments, he reached out and knocked on the metal plate under his feet.

All the metal plates here were actually the same. Without any intelligence, it was really difficult to find the right one quickly.

Fortunately, these details existed in his memory fragments. This could save him a lot of time.

20 seconds.

"Found it!" Peter tried several places in a row and finally found the right spot.

He put his hand on the metal plate, stimulating his static electricity ability to the extreme, and pulled hard. It didn't budge?

"Hahaha, Spider-Man, did you think I wouldn't take some protective measures when I knew you were coming?" Ms. Octopus' crazy laughter came from below.

Spider-Ham jumped up and landed beside Peter. His little pig hoof suddenly glowed as if he had cast some magic: "Witness my ultimate punch!"

Duang! With a loud bang, a metal plate near the main control board was hit and dented.

This was made of some kind of super alloy! It could withstand close-range high-energy bombardment from the high-energy particle flow! Yet it was flattened! Flattened in every sense!

"What are you still standing there for? My hand is almost as swollen as a pig's hoof! Give it the final blow!" Spider-Ham retracted his hand and shouted.

10 seconds.

Spider-Gwen, Noir Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man B, Spider-Mech Girl Peni, Spider-Ham, and Miles? Including Peter, a total of seven Spider-People put their hands on the opened side of the metal plate at the same time and pulled hard.

"Three" 

"Two" 

"One" 

"Pull!"

Bang! Hundreds of tons of force directly exceeded the limit of the metal plate. Even though Ms. Octopus had specially processed it, it still succumbed to this huge force.

It was opened! 

5 seconds.

Peter took out the reload key 2.0 and violently inserted it! The reload program started in an instant, and a bug was stuck in the smoothly running super particle collider, causing it to deviate from its original direction.

"No!" Ms. Octopus, who had been knocked down by Peni on the side of the collider's particle ejection port, saw this scene and roared in despair.
