Chapter 15 - New Member?

The White Night Clan, was anchored in this planet for over a hundreds and thousands of years.

Eons flowed through its passage, yet the systems of the ship is still functioning:

it shows the unmatched greatness of White Night clan's engineering prowess.

Rodgraim stood before it in awe, pausing at the splendid genius of an ancient race.

However, fate had brought this wonder technology straight into his hands.

Rodgraim found out from the log of the ship that the last remaining members of the White Night clan were brought into the distant world orbiting around Arcturus.

It's there rhe secret they settled, using guile and cunning ways to avoid being seen by the rest of the world, such as the creation of the monsters roaming across Arcturus.

Time passed, and most of the White Night clan were put into deep hibernation so that resources in the energy source that was left would not be depleted.

Rodgraim went to the lower levels of the ship from the log.

Finally, he came to the depth of cargo bay and found a deserted room.

The sight infront of him ran chills in his spine; for all chambers were filled with skeletal remains.

They had such advanced technology as well as techniques for hibernation; yet, time forces had finally overpowered their soul.

Rodgraim refused to retreat, and he walked forward until he was standing before the last torpid capsule.

This one was different from those others-it was still humming with a faint systems.

The breath was racing in his chest, and he realized the implication: someone of this clan is still breathing.

This discovery sent Rodgraim's mind into overdrive.

If this survivor were to spread the news, the entire galaxy would go wild in chaos.

The White Night clan had long been said to be extinct; an old and infamous race known for their cosmic crimes.

Rodgraim wiped away the thick layer of dust covering the capsule and peered inside. What he saw took his breath.

She lay peacefully inside, her face delicate and cold, like a flawless porcelain doll.

Her long, silver hair cascaded inside like a waterfall of threads, adding an ethereal splendor to the place.

She slept in a tranquil state, as pure as the slumbering princess in a fairy tales we know of.

Her eyes open, and now, to his further surprise, showed irises as pale and shining as sapphires.

For an instant they focused on Rodgraim, looking through at him with the frosty glaze of the capsule's glass.

The hibernation capsule hummed softly-a low chime-when it triggered itself open.

The hatch opened, and the girl slowly emerged.

Bare feet, delicate as alabaster, touched the floor.

In the next instant a tremendous psychic energy burst forth from her.

The force was so overwhelming, so pure and unadulterated that it left Rodgraim feeling stunned and beyond comparison with anything he had ever encountered before.

In response, a few Predator warriors appeared, with their shoulder cannons immediately training on the girl.

Their weapons were loaded, and their appearance was proof enough of the threat she was to be.

"Is this the power of the natural psionicist race, the White Night clan?" Rodgraim thought, amazed and warily.

They say that even the presence of one of this caliber of psionicist could tip the scales of a battle involving tens of thousands.

Rodgraim, at any rate, had met some psionicists in her travels, but none them were anywhere close to the sheer the intensity coming off this silver-haired girl.

Her eyes locked with Rodgraim's

her voice resonated right into his head.

It was ethereal and peaceful.

"Are you the new captain of the White Night?" she asked.

He could hardly say a thing when, adding, "You have nothing to worry about. I won't hurt you"

"To protect the altar of White Night, which is very important for the Zerg, I'm on its board."

" You see, so long as you don't try to seize the altar, I won't be against you. Instead, I will cooperate with you in order to protect this ship."

As she's words resonated in his mind, Rodgraim was met with a system prompt:

[Ding. White Night clan member "Mira Nebryx" requests to join your crew. Do you accept?]

He froze for a moment.

Not only did he get his hands on an advanced A-class cargo ship, but now an incredibly powerful psionicist was asking to join his crew.

How could he decline?

Agree! Rodgraim thought definitively.

[Ding. Well done, you have managed to recruit your first crew member!]

With Nebryx joining the crew, her stats appeared on Su Yan's technology interface.

Name: Mira Nebryx

Race: White Night Clan

Psionic Energy: 50,000/50,000

Strength: 20

Physique: 20

Spirit: 500

Skills:

Ancient Sinner: When encountering ancient races, their favorability falls 100.

Guardian of the White Night: As long as Rodgraim is captain, Nebryx's loyalty will be 100. In addition, also gives S-class piloting skills.

Zerg's Mortal Enemy: Loyalty falls to -100 when Rodgraim becomes an ally to the Zerg.

Combat efficacy doubles with enemies of the Zerg.

Psionicist: Confer S-level psionic ability. The rate of experience for those taught by her increases.

Last Fire Passer: Remaining as the last survivor of White Night increases the likelihood for survival and propagation.

This was what Rodgraim found when he looked down at her stats: 500 times more powerful than his psionic energy-the difference really was unfathomable.

Still, so long as he was captain of the White Night, she would never betray him.

There was a strong feeling of inquisitiveness, and he asked Nebryx about the mysterious Zerg altar.

The mercenaries and treasure hunters Rodgraim had seen before were looking for something, and he thought that this altar was what they were searching for.

"Why is the Zerg altar on the White Night?"Rodgraim asked.

Nebryx's expression was still serene, but it darkened.

"Tens of thousands of years ago, my clan gave in to corruption. Enchanted by forbidden promises, we built the Zerg altar to summon the Zerg, and that was an unforgivable sin. I'm here to make sure it isn't done again. The Zerg must never be unleashed on this world again."

She spoke of the Zerg, a race notorious for the destruction they caused in the old times during the Zerg Crisis.

The war had decimated half of the galaxy's races, and it was only through the combined force of the empires that survived the holocaust that closed the gateways to subspace sealing off the Zerg.

"Why not just blow up the core of the Zerg altar?" Rodgraim continued to press.

Nebryx's sapphire eyes steeled.

"It is not that easy. The core is linked to supernatural powers beyond our understanding. If its destruction occurs without caution, the consequence could be apocalyptic."

She paused, and then,

"For now, the core still is secreted in the bow of this ship. It must remain hidden, guarded at all cost. I will not allow the Zerg to return."

She had seen the iron in her eyes, a tenacity tempered for millennia with the vigilance of the ages.

He would ride into space with Nebryx now at his side and knew that White Night was just the beginning of their journey, not the end.

Together they would face what stood at them in the galaxy,

Protect the balance so precariously held between the stars, from those who wanted to let horrors loosed upon the universe long forgotten be loosed into the fold.
