Activating my mana radar, I target the mana detection below ground.
Earthworms shouldn't be too far down, I think only a few centimeters are needed...
Hmm... Nothing here... Not here...
Wow, those little things really know how to hide, huh?
It looks like I'm going to have to let my reach go deeper.
By letting the mana flow deeper into the ground, somewhere around 3 meters (9.8ft), I can feel the presence of other mana sources that move.
I think it might be the worms
"Dad, I think I found it." I turn to warn Richard and see him with his hands full of worms, while he has a hole in the ground made with his hands.
"What did you said?" He asks.
"Nothing important..."
Richard casts a spell that shapes the earth and turns it into a clay pot. I didn't know he could do that!
So his magic is Earth Magic. I should have already noticed when I saw him using it for the first time.
He puts the worms in the pot and picks up the fishing rod, standing up.
Taking a worm, he hooks it on the hook and throws it into the water.
Richard then sits down and just looks at nature.
So this is what fishing is like?
My grandmother from my old world told me that when I was nervous, I should go fishing. It must be because of the serenity of nature.
Well, I've never fished in my life, neither this life nor the last, so this might be a new experience.
After a few minutes, nothing happens—absolutely nothing...
I knew it would be time-consuming, but this is a test of patience.
I have to find something to do before I go crazy.
Suddenly, Richard pulls the rod up hard, and a medium-sized fish is caught on the hook!
Richard holds the fish and pulls out the hook that was stuck in its mouth.
The fish has a silver color all over its body. It has small eyes, and its fins are small. Its tail is divided in the middle, like that of a common fish.
My father, with his free hand, creates a basin of earth with magic that forms on the ground. He puts the fish there and creates a lid of earth to prevent the fish from escaping.
The way my father makes objects is even better than my control of magic. He must have done this so many times that it must be almost natural...
I'm interested in the way he makes these objects. I think he uses Controlled Magic to shape them.
Richard takes another worm that was in the jar, hooks it on the hook, and throws it into the river.
This might be the opportunity for me to train my earth magic.
Raising my hands toward the earth, I focus on molding the land's mana so that it moves.
I close my eyes to have greater concentration, and the mana begins to move upwards.
It's hard to shape something with just your mind, but I'm feeling like this is it....
After having a feeling that I made a simple pot of earth, I open my eyes, and see that I made something that wouldn't even be called a pot...
The earth is completely deformed, with some corners being more protruding. His form is very inconsistent. While the pot Richard made is cylindrical and practically perfect, mine looks like a giant piece of ginger...
But I think I can improve.
Learning magic is like having muscle memory. If you do it right, your body will remember how it did it and perform the same way.
After trying a few more times, I can't make much progress, but it's better than my first attempt.
The "pots" are more symmetrical and consistent in the cylinder shape, but I haven't been able to make a cavity for storage yet, so I'm making a dense block of earth. Maybe I can do that later.
Richard has already caught a few more fish and put them in the basin.
I'm already getting bored again...
"Hey dad, can you teach me how to fish?" I ask as he just stands there looking at the water.
Richard turns his head toward me, his eyes wide.
"Of course!" he responds cheerfully.
